Loyal friends come in small packages!
With black, fawn, and white fur, Buttercup is a small Chihuahua with large, soulful eyes. And those ears! Adorable! She will be a small dog when fully grown (she currently weighs about 6 pounds). Born in late March of this year, gentle Buttercup was removed from a hoarding situation. A local shelter asked for our help with her, and we were happy to take her into our rescue. I mean, who could resist this face?
A sweet, curious and medium energy pup, Buttercup enjoys her daily schedule of meals, walks, naps, and playtime. She loves a walk through the neighborhood and a chance to explore, but lounging in the warm, sunny backyard might be her favorite thing of all. A good roll in the grass followed by a cozy sun nap is just the thing for this little pup. Buttercup also enjoys being held on your lap and indulging in some leisurely toy chewing. She’s relaxed and comfortable in her crate, and she hangs out with her people during the day when not napping outside. Buttercup does well with the (larger than her) dogs and cat in her foster home and has demonstrated mild curiosity regarding the chickens in the fenced off coop. She would probably be happiest in a home with older kids who are not erratic and unpredictable like smaller children. She prefers taking her time to meet new people, and once they gain her trust, Buttercup is happy to accept chin scratches and the chance to curl up in a lap.
Buttercup is a smart little girl and she learns quickly. She is learning come and sit commands, and she knows go home means to head toward the front door or gate on returning from a walk. Buttercup walks well on her leash, but she’s still a puppy, and if something catches her attention, she will pull. She is fully potty trained, and she sleeps through the night. Buttercup is a bit of a picky eater; she is slightly underweight and her foster is working on getting her to put on a little bit more.
Buttercup is a timid puppy; she will need some time and structure to get to know an adopter and to feel confident in a new environment. She takes comfort in the security of smaller places, like a playpen or a gated area that allows her to see what is going on while giving her a safe place to nap and play. Buttercup is a curious and resilient puppy, and, in a new home, using specific strategies the first week (which we can teach you) and making her a part of your daily routine will build the foundations for a lifelong relationship. Once she trusts you, she displays great loyalty and will follow you, cuddle with you, lean into ear scratches, and be your best friend on walks and outings.

Ready to adopt? Now what?
Please take 3-4 minutes and complete our application form at: www.lilaccitypupproject.org. Our adoption team will spring into action! You will have a phone call conversation with a dedicated adoption counselor, and the adoption team will contact your vet(s), if applicable. Once you have been matched with a dog, a meet and greet will be set up and take place at the foster family's home. After the meet and greet, there will be a home inspection and in-home trial prior to adoption finalization.
Lilac City Pup Project is entirely volunteer and foster run, with no kennel facility. Only approved adoption applicants will be able to meet our dogs outside of adoption events.
Adoption Donations:
$350 for Puppies up to 9 months
$300 for Adults 9 months or older
*includes spay/neuter, all core vaccinations, and microchip. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as Lilac City Pup Project is a federal 501c3 organization.

LCPP is always in need of fosters. There is an overwhelming number of dogs who need our help and the more fosters we have, the more dogs we can save. LCPP covers expenses, including food. Fosters provide love and a soft place to crash.
At Lilac City Pup Project we strive to better the lives of vulnerable dogs through rescue, foster, and adoption services; educate dog owners and empower them to build successful human/canine relationships; and support the local community by partnering with shelters facing overcrowding and limited resources.
LCPP is organized exclusively for public, charitable, and/or educational purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. LCPP is a Nonprofit organization formed in Washington State in April 2025, by passionate dog lovers. One hundred percent (100%) of every dollar goes to furthering our tax-exempt purpose.
