Story
Toby is a 7-month-old, 26-pound chiweenie-German pinscher pup with adorable ears. Toby's story began with heartbreak. At just 4 months old, Toby was abandoned at a high-kill shelter alongside his mom. While his mom was quickly adopted, Toby was left behind, scared and alone in a noisy shelter environment. Thankfully, a loving foster stepped in and gave him the chance he deserved. When Toby first arrived in foster care, he was terrified of the outside world. Everyday sounds and unfamiliar surroundings overwhelmed him, and even going outdoors was frightening. But Toby found comfort in his foster sisters. By watching them confidently explore, play, and enjoy life, he slowly began to follow their lead. Today, Toby happily goes outside on leash, loves playing with his foster sisters, and enjoys stretching out in the sunshine for a relaxing afternoon sunbath. Toby is shy when meeting new people and needs time to decompress in new environments. Once he feels safe, however, he blossoms into a loyal little companion who will quietly follow you everywhere. He is calm, gentle, incredibly sweet, and completely non-confrontational. He does not resource guard and has wonderful manners around other animals. Toby currently lives with six dogs and one cat and gets along beautifully with all of them. He absolutely thrives in the company of other pets and looks to them for reassurance and confidence. Because of this, a happy, confident, playful dog in the home is required. Toby trusts dogs more than humans, and having a canine role model helps him continue building confidence and learning that the world is a safe place. He is also a very smart puppy and a quick learner who continues to make progress every day. While he is fine around children, we feel Toby would do best in a quieter home without young kids. He spends a lot of energy observing his surroundings and making sure everything is okay, so a calm environment will help him relax and continue gaining confidence. After everything he has been through, it's understandable that Toby is cautious. But for the family willing to give him patience, kindness, and time, Toby will reward you with unwavering loyalty and a bond that is truly special. Toby has already come so far. Now he just needs a forever family to help him write the next chapter of his story. If you have a friendly dog looking for a best friend, and a quiet home where Toby can continue to flourish, this sweet little survivor may be the perfect addition to your family. Toby is fully vaccinated, neutered and heartworm negative. He is kept on heartworm and flea preventatives. To meet this amazing pup via facetime or whatsapp or other video chat apps, please send a completed application via www.savesomesouls.com Yards MUST BE adequately and fully fenced to adopt our pups. We do not accept electric or underground fences. Toby's adoption fee includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter surgery and recovery, heartworm and flea prevention), a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, and harness. Transport fees out of Houston can range from $150 - $350 depending on destination. Our dogs are fully assessed by foster parents, vets and behaviorists, as well as videos and video chats are available to observe their manners in public. We are extremely transparent and like to share everything negative and positive with the adopters, to ensure it's a good fit and they are not returned to us, as the trips are very stressful on them. Houston is home to million strays, many who are abandoned, many born on the streets, many who escaped while living in the yard, which is common in Texas. Since our rescue does not get grants that shelters get, we use adoption fee to help the pups and kitties in our care. Your adoption fee goes towards vetting and feeding our long term and permanent fosters, and unadoptable pups, as well as towards the monthly care and preventatives etc of our pets. By adopting one pup from our rescue, you make room for another dog to be rescued our high kill shelter, thus becoming an integral part of our mission to save as many unfortunate dogs off the streets and shelters as possible. So Thank you for choosing to rescue, and not go to a breeder.

Story
Introducing.... Miss Margaret! This is the sweetest little chihuahua you will ever encounter - except at the vet:) She really doesn't like strangers manhandling her:) Margaret was rescued from a shelter and she needed major medical care. She had major infections from her four remaining (very) rotten teeth. These teeth have been removed and she is feeling so much better! Her jaw was broken quite some time ago and she has just lived with it. Unfortunately, there isn't anything to be done for her now. She has adapted to life with a broken jaw. Being toothless, she has to eat canned food only. Missing teeth does not slow her down one bit! She gets ULTRA excited about her breakfast and dinner and will even stand on her hind legs and jump around for food and treats! The rest of the time, she is pretty much a snuggle bunny/ couch potato. She is crate trained and house-broken when taken out regularly. If not taken out regularly, she is not. Her foster mom works 10-11 hour days, so she does pee in her crate during this time. She never poos in her crate. Hey, tiny dog, tiny bladder! When she is out and about in her foster home, she gets along great with the two dogs and many cats that she lives with - no conflicts:) She will use potty pads when she needs to. The vet estimates her to be 14-15 yrs old, however, she doesn't act this old! She is a spunky little girl in the home and especially in the yard. Why doesn't the foster mom keep her you might ask? Unfortunately, she does not understand that she has very delicate little legs and while she uses the stairs up to the bed, she does not use the pet steps down. She jumps off the side of the bed. This is not safe for her little, arthritic legs. She needs a home for her golden years without steps up to a human bed. She needs someone who will love her and cherish her for the sweet angel that she is for the rest of her days. If you are interested in her, please send an email with a completed application to SCP . Applications can be found on our website at secondchancepets.org under the "Forms" tab. Please complete and return to us for review and to set up a meet and greet! Story
Cooper has been an amazing member of our family since he was a puppy. Unfortunately he’s become less patient with our young children in his old age. He has nipped at our youngest a couple of times, and we can’t take the chance of it becoming more serious. He’s sweet, and affectionate, but should not be in a home with young children.
