Currently living in his own puppy room with his brother, Dave is soaking up the good life while learning and growing every day. Dave has recently joined our rescue and has received his first round of puppy vaccines. Let me introduce you to this high-spirited spunky girl named Snow. She arrived on 4/14 at the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Snow is spayed, weighs 54 lbs and is 3-4 years old. She is listed as a chow chow mix. In consulting my Dog Scanner app other possibilities emerged in her breed mix: Siberian Husky, Samoyed, and American Eskimo Dog. Snow walks beautifully on a leash. She pottied outside. She is a very curious girl and did a lot of scouting in the yard. She is spunky, energetic, and on the move! She seemed more interested in exploring than hanging out with a human friend, but perhaps she was just so excited to be out of her kennel and stretching her legs. She is however, friendly and sociable and let me pet her without any objections! She has lots of personality. She has plenty of vim and vigor and would doubtless be best suited for a person or a family that is active, rather than sedentary. She would happily spend some time outside, but with the Texas heat and all that fluffy fur, she definitely needs to be an inside pup!

Meet Nova! She’s a 1-year-old spayed female Staffordshire Terrier/Chow Chow mix weighing 55 lbs. She arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/14 as a stray. Nova is a beautiful girl with an irresistible smile, a loving nature, and an independent streak. She takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once she does, she’ll be your best friend for life. She walks nicely on a leash and loves exploring every corner of the shelter yard. While she can be picky about treats, she takes her favorites gently. She seems to be both housetrained and crate trained, and she’ll need to be the only dog in her future home. Though she hasn’t shown much interest in toys yet, she may discover a favorite once she’s settled in. Nova adores being petted and will happily give hugs in return. A secure yard to play in and a cozy spot indoors with her loved ones is exactly what this sweet girl deserves.

Bird "the Turd" is a super handsome 2yo boy, searching for a "nest" to call home! He is such a sweet and goofy guy! He's also extremely entertaining! A little hard headed at times, but most teenagers are right?! Thankfully he is very smart and treat motivated! Bird thrives with a gentle voice and reassurance to build his confidence! He loves walks, window watching, toys, car rides, fetch, treats, snuggles and just letting loose and having a good time. He is sometimes wary of making new dog friends, but once he realizes they're ok, he's solid as a rock! He enjoys playful dogs, but also doesn't mind being your solo pup as long as you're home more often than not. Bird does good with cats that don't run and are cool with him being nearby, sniffing them and/or trying to encourage them to interact. He loves kids, but can be a bit clumsy and sometimes gets "rowdy" when overstimulated so older or experienced kids are best fitting for him. (no that doesn't mean he bites or becomes agressive in any way, he just gets super happy and doesn't realize what a big oaf he is!) He is crate and potty trained. He does well on a leash once you get going and have a routine. He also rides very well in your front seat! It takes Bird about two weeks to fully settle in to a new home and routine, so please keep that in mind if you're interested in bringing him into your home. Don't break his heart because you don't have the patience to let him settle in. He's a great guy, with a heart of gold and the best personality you'll ever see!
