Story
Darcy 🐾, a 5-year old, 20lb Cocker Spaniel who is learning what it means to feel safe & loved with family. Darcy is a shy, gentle girl who is still getting used to trusting humans. She may be a little reserved at first, but once she has a little time to settle in, she will happily curl up in your lap. She allows being picked up and is making steady progress as she learns that people can be kind. She gets along well with other dogs but hasn’t been around cats. Darcy is good with kids though older children may be the best fit while she continues to build confidence. Darcy is crate trained, working on house training but is kept on a consistent schedule in her foster home. Leash training is still a work in progress. She loves running around a fenced yard and has recently learned the fun of stuffed toys. Because she didn’t have a good diet earlier in life, Darcy has had multiple teeth extracted, so soft food will be a must for her going forward. Darcy has a sister named Lucy. If you’re looking for a lovely sister duo, consider applying for both so they can continue their journey together. Darcy is looking for a patient home that will govern her time to blossom. With a little understanding and a lot of love, this sweet girl will reward you with quiet companionship, gentle affection, and the joy of watching her confidence grow. Darcy is fostered in the Cincinnati area. Her adoption fee is $450.00. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Chestnut is a 12+ year old male cocker spaniel whose life story could have made him bitter… but instead, it made him even sweeter.   This gentle senior was once someone’s devoted companion, the kind of dog who quietly follows you from room to room just to be near. Tragically, he was found abandoned on a busy road with a painful, eye injury, and struck by a car. Despite everything he has endured, Chestnut greets the world with softness, trust, and a tail that still wants to wag.   His damaged eye has been removed, and he’s recovering beautifully after hip surgery. When he was found, his coat was painfully matted to the skin and he had to be shaved down. The good news? His soft, beautiful fur will grow back, and each day he grows stronger and more comfortable.   What hasn’t changed is his spirit.   Chestnut is calm, affectionate, and very gentle. He loves cozy dog beds, soft voices, and simply being near his humans. He’s past the hustle and bustle of youth and is ready for the quiet joys of senior life: sunny naps, slow strolls, and resting his head on a loving lap. He doesn’t ask for much - just safety, patience, and a loving home where he can finally exhale.   Chestnut is good with other quiet dogs that allow him space as he prefers to keep to himself. He is good with cats. Due to his age and injury a home without young children is preferred. Chestnut is crate/pen trained and keeps it clean. When his beautiful coat grows in he will require regular professional grooming to keep him free of matting and his paws from slipping on the floor.    If you are ready to give a deserving old soul the comfort he’s always given to others, Chestnut is waiting to glow quietly beside you for the rest of his golden years. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.   March 7, 2026, 9:24 am

Story
Between May 1st-17th, part of my adoption fee is sponsored! Thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters campaign, my new family can take me home for $70! Meet Autumn! Autumn is a gentle, soulful 8-year-old Cocker Spaniel weighing about 20 pounds who has come a long way from her past life in a puppy mill. It’s clear she hasn’t always known kindness or stability, but despite that, she is incredibly loving and just wants to be close to her people. She is the kind of dog who will quietly make her way over, curl up beside you, and look up for affection, or nudge you with her nose before rolling onto her back for belly rubs with the sweetest little trust. She forms deep bonds and thrives on connection—she just wants to feel safe, loved, and reassured. Autumn does wonderfully with other dogs and coexists very easily with them, though her heart really belongs to her person. She’ll happily climb right over another dog just to get closer to you, which perfectly sums up how much she craves love and comfort. Because of her past, Autumn does struggle with anxiety, which can show up as pacing, restlessness, difficulty settling, and at times even becoming too overwhelmed to focus on eating. Crates can be especially stressful for her, likely due to the instability and confinement she experienced earlier in life. Over the last month, however, Autumn has made incredible progress after starting Prozac alongside structure, routine, and reassurance. Her anxiety has significantly decreased, she is eating full meals consistently again, settling much more comfortably, and beginning to truly relax and enjoy simply being a dog. She loves curling up in her dog bed, resting beside her people, and running over for belly rubs. Autumn’s medication will be an important part of her continued success, and she is thriving with the consistency and support that help her feel safe and secure. Autumn would do best in a calm, patient home where someone is around most of the time. A work-from-home or retired household would be ideal, as she finds comfort in companionship and consistency. She’s not a dog who wants to be left alone all day—she’s a dog who just wants to finally feel like she belongs. She is also working on potty training, which is still a work in progress, but now that her anxiety is improving, she is making encouraging strides. She is currently on prescription C/D food to help manage urinary crystals and continues to do well with consistency and support. What makes Autumn so special is her quiet resilience. Even after a difficult start in life, she has so much love to give. There is a softness to her—a gentle, hopeful spirit—that just wants someone to show her that the world can be safe and kind. Autumn is looking for a calm, committed home that will continue giving her the patience, reassurance, and stability she’s always deserved. In return, she will offer deeply devoted, affectionate companionship that is truly something special. Autumn is fostered in the Cincinnati area. Her adoption fee is $300.00. Story
Beau is fostered in Mentor Oh and his adoption fee/donation is 150 Hi there, my name is B0-Bo, and I am a 12-13 yr old cocker spaniel boy. We are just guestimating his age per our vet, because we don’t know his history. He was originally found as a stray, so we can only do our best at telling his correct number in years. One thing we do know, is that he was not properly cared for most of his life. His ear canals are hardened, and closed up from such horrific infection. Our vet worked on his ears for months to finally get them free of infection. He is completely DEAF from the un-treated ear infections. He actually would do best if he could get the TECA surgery, however we have already spent thousands to get him cleared up. The cost of surgery for both ears is $5,000, and we tried to raise the funds to get it done, however we were unable to do it. We were able to get $1500 raised, and used it to treat the ears for the months it took to get them cleared. The problem with not getting the TECA surgery (REMOVING HIS EAR CANALS) done is that with closed canals, his infections can easily come back, and will continue to do so in the future. We are currently flushing his ears daily with Liquid Health K9 ear cleansing solution, and so far, he is still infection free, but we have to be very consistent with daily flushing. BoBo is such a happy go lucky dog, he lives for his ball, and will wear out your arm from throwing it to him all day if you let him. He is affectionate and loving, and enjoys spending time with his person. BoBo is also on thyroid medication, he was very overweight when we took him in, and found out he is hypo-thyroid. A few months on the meds and he lost all the excess weight. We would LOVE to find a retirement home for this boy, he is so good, and deserves to be loved and cared for. BoBo is neutered and up to date on vaccinations, as well as heartworm negative. If you would like to adopt Beau or would like more information on him, please fill out an adoption application We do not have a shelter, all rescues are in foster homes - Dogs are not shown without first being approved to adopt. Complete an Adoption Application at http://www.cherishedcockers.org/adoptionapp.htm If you have any questions, please E-mail Cherished Cockers Rescue Adoption Donation (vet bill-expenses), Home Visit, Adoption Contract, References Required. We do not ship dogs.Pet needs to be picked up at foster home.In some cases we may be able to assist with transport. We would love to have more foster volunteers so we can rescue and rehome more cocker spaniels.
