Meet this handsome 4-month-old Collie mix! 🐾 At approximately 18 pounds, this sweet boy is the perfect age to start learning all the things that make a great family companion. He’s already learning to sit on command and is beginning to understand the ropes of housetraining. He is currently being fostered with an older dog who is helping show him the how to be a good canine companion. Having a confident dog around has been a great way for this little guy to learn and build his social skills. Of course, he’s still a puppy, so his new family will need to be patient, consistent, and ready for all the fun (and occasional mischief!) that comes with puppyhood. He’ll need continued work on housetraining, basic commands, manners, and all of the important Puppy Training 101 lessons. He will be neutered on October 9 and will be ready for adoption after this. Max was a stray who had been wondering around a neighborhood since March 2026. Finally he decided he had enough and wandered right up to a lady's house and walked right in the door. He is friendly and has been staying with her friend who is fostering him. Max is a sweet, loving 1½-year-old Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) mix with a heart full of love and energy to share. He forms strong bonds with his favorite person and loves being by their side, whether he’s following them around the house or curling up next to them to relax. Max loves playing fetch, retrieving toys, going on walks, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. Like many cattle dogs, he’s happiest when he has both physical exercise and mental stimulation. He walks fairly well on a leash, though he can pick up the pace when he’s excited. Max is well-mannered both indoors and outside. He’s still learning to be comfortable in a crate and will need some patience as he continues crate training. Car rides are also something he’s still getting used to. Max appears to get along well with other dogs, although he would benefit from slow introductions as his experience with them is still somewhat limited and unknown. He seems interested in cats and other small animals, but his herding instincts provokes him want to chase them. Because of this, Max would do best in a home without cats or small pets. Max is friendly with people and enjoys meeting new friends. He may take a little extra time to warm up to unfamiliar men, but once he feels comfortable, his affectionate personality shines through. It is currently unknown how he does around young children. Max’s ideal home is with an active family or individual who can give him plenty of love, attention, daily exercise, and opportunities to play. A home with a large yard or acreage where he can safely explore would be a dream come true for him. With continued training, patience, and plenty of enrichment, Max is sure to become a loyal, devoted companion for years to come. If you’re looking for an affectionate, active best friend who’s always ready for an adventure and happiest by your side, Max may be the perfect match for you!
