Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This is Valentino. He is a handsome, even-tempered gentleman who is looking for a relaxed life with soft beds, naps, and leisurely strolls. He has a really cute waddle due to his corgi ancestry. He could probably stand to lose a few pounds after being cooped up in a shelter in Texas. He is a friendly guy who gets along with people of all ages and other dogs, but he would be fine as an only dog too. Valentino is already potty trained, leash trained, and crate trained. He loves treats and would do anything for them so continued training should be a breeze. If you're looking for a sweet, chill companion for walks and movie nights Valentino just may be your guy! Valentino is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can   donate   to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 14, 2024, 10:54 pm

Story
Misty is a 2 year old Corgi/Shepherd mix that weighs about 30 lbs. She came from a South Dakota reservation where she was abandoned when her owners moved and left her behind to fend for herself. She was fearful out there by herself & people were trying to catch her to no avail. She was eventually caught after she was weakened by a porcupine attack. She had lots of quills in her face, head, neck & one in the corner of her eye. We were notified by a contact in SD & we agreed to help her. We asked that she be brought to the nearest Vet who sedated her & pulled out a lot of quills, put her on antibiotics & medicated eye ointment. Then transport was arranged for her to come to Second Chance. We immediately brought her to one of the clinics we use and more quills were removed under sedation. There were many trips to the Vet to monitor her eye, which recovered nicely, and to continue to pull quills that were working their way out of her. Despite the long & painful recovery from the embedded quills & healing from a previous broken leg, Misty is a happy girl now & absolutely loves everyone she meets. She is a real people dog & loves to be by her foster mom or any visitors that stop by. She is housetrained and has not gotten into anything when left alone loose in the house. She rarely barks & she know sit, come, and stay. She comes when called, likes to go for walks,& likes to go for car rides. She does pull some on leash so she needs a little more leash work. She is afraid of dogs that approach too fast - so she needs to have slow introductions when meeting other dogs. She would also be fine as an only dog. Misty would make an excellent companion for someone who wants a very sweet, devoted dog. She has been spayed, vaccinated, and her heartworm test and tick profile are both negative. Her microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee is $375. If you would like to meet Misty, please call 651-771-5662.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hi! I’m Rutherford and I’m finding my time in foster care quite comfortable.  I’m not one of those young chaps who amuses everyone at whim.  I’m more a stoic fellow whose life’s experiences have aged my soul.  You’ll find me inquisitive and curious, as a gentleman should be.  I enjoy going for walks and you’ll discover that my leash manners are stellar, although I admit to being a bit nervous about car rides.  Yet I’m a quiet rider pondering where we may be going. I’ve heard my foster parents talk about my ability to be “crate trained” and it seems to please them.  I try to grumble in hopes they change their minds but once I realize that’s not a matter up for discussion, I concede and quiet down quickly. I’ve been around small children and they do just fine with me – or is that I do just fine with them?! Fenced yards are optional as I am content doing my business while on a leash but I’ve yet to perfect the art of consistency in my routine.  I do know the command “come” and if you give me the “Uh-uh”, I’ll leave whatever I’m trying to take, alone.  But I’ wouldn’t call that a command.  But if it works, why fight it? There are also cats here that I tend to just watch with curiosity but when one runs past me, I interpret that as “game on” and chase it.  No harm being they are faster than I am.  Haha!! If I sound like a fit for your forever, reach out! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hello there! My name is Crumpet, and I'm a six-year-old female Corgi weighing 24 pounds. I'm an absolute joy to have around! I'm sweet, curious, and playful. When I first arrived at my foster home, I was quite timid and shy, but very observant and smart. Within just a few days, I started to show my true personality, gaining confidence and trust in my new surroundings. While I'm still nervous about certain things like fast movements, loud noises, and being grabbed at, I'm getting better every day. I've learned the household routine very well and have gotten potty training down quite nicely. I go into my crate to eat, sleep, and nap throughout the day while my foster mom works. I'm fairly quiet, though I have let out some playful barks when excited or when I need to go outside in the morning. Being a Corgi, I might get more vocal as I become more comfortable. I love to approach my humans in the backyard and give them a gentle boop on the ankle to let them know I'm there. I’ve shown some interest in toys but not much. I do well in the car, during grooming, and I'm easy to give medicine to—just hide a pill in some Greek yogurt, and I’m good to go. While I don’t pay much attention to the four resident dogs here, I have played with my foster sibling Corgi a couple of times. So many cute Corgi hops! I do need a fenced yard because I'm not leash trained yet and can be fearful of new things. I tend to freeze when on a leash and will need more practice as my confidence grows. I don't necessarily need another dog in the house as long as my humans are home most of the time. My tongue sticks out, we call it a "perma-blep" (Google "blep" to see how adorable it is!). I’m very loving and sweet and would thrive in a calm, quiet forever home that can offer me unconditional love and patience. If you’re looking for a loving companion with a bit of a quirky charm, I’m the perfect match for you! Meet Carmie, the first thing you’ll notice are her radar ears! She is curious, smart, playful and very respectful of both our resident dogs and cats. Carmie also loves her humans and does well with kids. Carmie is estimated to be 7 weeks old and 7 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting. We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events! Saturday, June 15, 11am-1pm, Makwa Coffee; 2805 Hamline Ave N, Roseville, MN 55113 https://www.facebook.com/events/1498407064216739 Animal attendance is subject to change based on their availability.
