Story
Sometimes we get the most unusual phone calls that prick our heart with the intensity of a desperate need, even if they are a thousand miles away.   Trooper, and some of his friends from New Mexico have entered our world and we are trying to help.  There's a rural shelter in a small town in New Mexico that very few people stop in to adopt. But yet, the drop offs continue to build, and adoptions do not match the number of dogs in the shelter.  A very dedicated and passionate rescue woman that drives her own independent tractor trailer, moving loads of cargo in freight from state to state, from job to job, has learned that she must stop in at that shelter and check out what they have on the euthanasia list.  She is an independent lady who champions the underdogs.  She gave Critter Cavalry  a call and told us about a number of small breed dogs that are under twenty pounds that needed a rescue to save them.  Critter Cavalry signed up. Trooper is an adorable 6 month old small breed boy that we think is a Chiweenie. Trooper, is a beautiful boy who is six months old and weighs 8 pounds and will most probably top out as an adult boy at 15 pounds. He is cuddly, shy and great with other dogs. If you are interested in giving this sweet boy a beautiful life and future, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com.  PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 23, 2026, 11:52 am

Story
This is the face of a senior who doesn’t understand why he’s homeless 😞 Meet Jorge. His owner was frantically driving around with him looking for a shelter to take him immediately, refusing to bring him back home because he snapped at them that morning trying to put his harness on when he wanted to be left alone. His owners had been having some changes in their living situation and health issues and it was just too much to continue to care for him. We were expecting the worst of him but he’s actually more of a sad scared boy than feisty and evil, and he tried really hard to show that he wasn’t comfortable being cornered and really didn’t like that harness. He’s been fine with other dogs and cooperative with us, picks up a routine quickly and likes having access to a fenced yard better than having to be walked. But he’s a pretty easy guy overall for the right home and doesn’t want to make waves and he’s been used to living with other dogs in the past. He’s about 12 years old, a chunky 20lbs and looks like a giant chihuahua, or a corgi on stilts, or a toy shepherd/husky mix 🤷‍♀️, neutered, updated on shots and in pretty good shape for his age overall. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Jorge in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Comer is a precious 10-year-old Corgi/Terrier mix who’s sure to capture your heart. Weighing in at a perfect 30 lbs, she’s the ideal size to curl up on your lap for a cozy cuddle or snuggle beside you after a long day. While she may be considered a senior, Comer’s heart and energy are young at spirit, and she’s ready to live her best life with you! Sadly, Comer had to be surrendered back to Eleventh Hour Rescue after her previous owner became ill. Despite this, Comer’s resilience shines through. She’s a sweet, affectionate girl who  is great with cats, currently living with a foster feline sibling. While Comer seems comfortable with feline friends, she can be picky about her canine friends, and that is why a home with no other dogs would be ideal for her. Comer is friendly and loves to spend time with her humans, but she can be a bit nervous around men. A gentle, patient introduction to new male family members will help her feel comfortable and build trust. Whether she’s lounging with you on the couch or enjoying a playful moment, her joyful personality will surely brighten your day. House-trained, crate-trained, and a model car passenger, Comer is a well-behaved companion who’s ready to bring happiness and comfort to her forever home. She’s up to date on all her vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $205, a small price for a lifetime of love, laughter, and companionship. If you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly best friend who will shower you with affection, Comer might be the perfect match for you. Apply today at EHRDOGS.ORG and ask for COMER — she can’t wait to meet you! Story
Hi everyone, I'm Macy, a 7 year old 41 pound purebred Corgi looking for a belly rub. I mean it: one belly rub and I'll be your best friend. When you're not rubbing my belly I'd be happy to go on short walks. We need to walk a little slow though because I have very short legs. But walking would definitely be good for me since I'm trying to lose weight, for sure I need a diet and a supportive friend to help me through it. Belly rubs will also help. I wonder if maybe you could teach me how to swim? I like the water and it would be a good, safe exercise for me. As for indoor activities, I would thoroughly enjoy lying on your lap and following you around the house, just waiting for my next chance to be petted or receive a belly rub. I'm a really happy girl who loves attention and wants to connect and be all yours! Did I mention I love a belly rub? Seriously, I'm ready anytime!Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here: (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). All fields on the application must be completed. Please read about the adoption process (https://www.anewchancear.org/adopt/our-adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://www.anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://www.anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.

Story
Foxy is a wonderful 6.5-year-old Corgi/Shiba Inu mix who is looking for her forever home. Weighing 39 pounds, Foxy is a beautiful and incredibly intelligent dog with a loving personality that shines once she builds trust. Foxy thrives on daily exercise, enjoying walks, playtime, and mental stimulation. She is house-trained and knows basic commands. Her favorite things include playing fetch, chewing on her toys, and relaxing with her licky pad. Foxy would do best in a calm, structured home with an owner experienced in handling reactive dogs. She can be wary of new people and other dogs, but with patience, consistency, and understanding, she quickly opens up to reveal her goofy and affectionate nature.
