Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Wheezy, a 16-pound Corgi mix was surrendered to the shelter when her owner became ill and could no longer care for her. At 8 years old the shelter must be quite a scary place. Wheezy was very happy to get out of the shelter with us and simply cuddled up for a nice ride home.   Wheezy is good with both dogs and cats. She is well-behaved in the home and can be left home without being destructive. The best news of all, she is housebroken. She is a great girl who is looking for a second chance with a family of her own. Wheezy has recently been diagnosed with Cushing disease which is being treated with daily medication. She is doing great with it and will make a wonderful pet for a lucky family. See Wheezy's Photo Album here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.939472228183262&type=3 If interested please fill out an adoption application online at njshpetrescue.org Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 9, 2024, 10:47 pm

Story
Molly is the sweetest girl, is loving life at her foster home with her canine friends, being spoilt and running around in the yard. She's active, like any puppy is, and loves to be outdoors. She's the goofiest mix of unknown breeds. Molly in her brief life has gone through incredible trauma. At only a few months old she was dropped at at the owner's family member's house but those people hadn't asked for a dog nor did they care for it. So they kept her like a cat with the resident cat - not taking her outside. Ever. Then, when she was 9 months old they stuffed her in a rolling grocery bag (because poor Molly was so terrified that she didn't want to walk) and dumped her at the very scary, big and noisy Manhattan shelter. There she was out of her mind scared and wouldn't not walk. At all. She had to be carried to be taken into the yard and once there she'd still be a statue. Then just before Christmas someone paid a deposit to adopt her - but never picked her up. So as soon as that waiting period was over we went to get her. And oh was she one happy pup when she arrived at her foster home! She's now not only learning how to be a happy puppy and being well cared for but also all the ins and outs of good dog behavior. She still has a little anxiety but that's only understandable after everything she's gone through.

Story
Meet Merlin! This sweet 2 year old mix was surrendered when his owner was relocating. He had not been to a vet (ever?!), was covered in some kind of weird healing scabs that his owners said was a reaction to some new shampoo?, and is a bit thin and was nervous at first but warms up fast and dances around for attention. He seems like just an all around nice little guy, walks nicely on a leash, and is fine with other dogs and could live with or without them in a home. He was said to be a Maltese mix? Though he looks more like an eskie/pom mix or oversized longhair chihuahua. Merlin is 13lbs (probably should be about 15), has been vetted, neutered, updated on shots, and is ready for a home. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Merlin in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
