Story
Benji is a Dachshund mixed. Very sweet but protective. Good with dogs his size but have to get use to larger dogs. Benji is having some nerve issues. Not able to fully walk at the moment but does stand. always been an inside dog. I have him under the care of Southside Vet. willing to still help with food. he has plenty of toys, etc. I have a husband that is on at home dialysis and my mom just had radiation beads placed in her stomach so I've been told that Benji is not a good fit with those situations. Just want him to be given a chance for a loving home.

Lily is a long hair miniature dachshund. She’s super sweet and gets along with everyone. I so will miss her. I have two other dogs and I’m only allowed two dogs in the home I rented. We got her in Michigan when she was 8 weeks old. She made the move with us to NC in 2012.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Jake is a 6 month old Dachshund, possibly Chihuahua mix, weighing in around 8 pounds.   He loves other dogs but he was too energetic for the dog he previously lived with.  He is a sweet boy and is very active.   Jake loves toys and people.  His foster mom is working on his house training and leash walking.  He does sleep well in his crate at night.   Jake will definitely need a fenced yard and another dog to play with.  He is very fast and loves to run around the yard.   Please fill out an application if you would like to meet him.  Adoption donation is $300.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 27, 2023, 12:06 am

Story
Dusty14 years old11 poundsDilute dappleFostered in Raleigh, NC areaShort list: Good with dogs, needs housetraining work or belly bands, Grade 5 heart murmur, takes heart meds about $42 a month, shy at first, playful, great snuggler, gives great kisses, hearing issues,  no kids under 12 You know that Dusty likes you when he starts giving you kisses – and he’s a great kisser. He’s a bit shy and reserved at first, but when he warms up he turns into a totally different dog. But you REALLY know you’ve won his heart when he brings you his favorite squeaky toy to throw. Yes, this 14-year-old has way more pep in his step than you would expect. He loves to run after his toys and will even sometimes bring them back, in true dachshund fashion. This boy has had a rough few weeks. He was left in the freezing cold morning on the front steps of a shelter and then landed in our arms. But he’s now turned into this friendly boy who loves his people. During the day, he plays with the other dogs at doggie daycare at his foster mom’s work. And at night, he snuggles in the big bed with her buried under the blankets. In between, he loves to patrol the house and hold court on the sofa. His new family should expect a rough transition in the beginning and be patient as he settles into his new routine. He’s crate trained but would prefer to be with his person. Dusty needs work on housetraining, but he is totally fine with wearing belly bands to make it easier on his new family. We aren’t sure if he just needs more reinforcement or if he’s just past the point of really caring anymore – his new family should be ready for both. Since he can be a little timid at first and snappy if grabbed too fast before he’s comfortable, he needs a family without kids under 12. Dusty is neutered, UTD on shots, had senior bloodwork and is microchipped. He has no teeth. Dusty has a grade 5 heart murmur and is on daily medication that costs about $50 a month. His new family will need to drive to Raleigh to adopt him – no transports. We prefer to adopt to families who live within a few hours drive from central NC. To get the process started of adopting him, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org. Dusty is an awesome dog for the right family who will give him the time and space to bloom. His foster family has fallen in love with him and we know you will feel the exact same way.   ##1678159##

Story
Estelle came from a local shelter where she had shown up as a stray. The years of neglect and abuse was evident - from her stained feet (from red clay) to her brittle and dull coat - this girl has not seen the proper amount of love and care. One thing is for sure - it has not changed her outlook on humans. Estelle loves EVERY human she meets. She happily greets every human with tons of love and that huge smile on her face. When Estelle first came into our rescue - well, she came in like a wrecking ball (no real easy way to say that). She was attacking other dogs right and left, drinking bowls of water (or finding ways to get to water bottles to get her own water), having accidents in the house and just in general being a BIT much. We were concerned about there being an underlying health condition so we lined up the tests. Diabetes, Cushings, extensive bloodwork, X-rays -- and guess what? She passed every last one of them with flying colors. She was ruled perfectly healthy. And then, we began to notice that she was going into heat! AhhhhHA! A possible answer emerged. It is possible all of her rage-like behavior was attributed to just being angry that she is menopause age and having to still deal with potentially getting pregnant and having puppies (any menopausal women out there will tell you that the idea of potentially having puppies at 50+ years old sounds tiring, am I right?). After all, Estelle is no spring chicken -- we think she is between 11-13 years of age (though it is hard to tell because the spring in her step does not match the gray on her face). And while Estelle might have some age, she will have you know that she wastes no time when it comes to be invited to go on a walk and gladly sniffs about for 2-3 miles daily. As we have progressed through Estelle's heat cycle, we have seen the the calm in the storm. Less accidents, decrease from her veracious appetite and just generally happier with herself.  Estelle was recently spayed & now completed her vetting.   Estelle was moved to a foster home with no other dogs & that has been incredible for her.  Estelle loves all the human attention & will never leave lonely.  She is also walking everyday, enjoying baths, naps on the sofa & soaking up the springtime sun.  We would like to have a home that preferable does not have any other animals but wants a TRUE couch companion that will love you forever. There is no devotion like Estelle's devotion and now that Estelle is getting her groove back, we know that she is going to make a lonely heart so much better. Are you that lonely heart seeking a partner-in-love? Estelle is ready to accept the position. ##1694954##

Story
Sassy9 years oldDachshund MixFostered in RaleighWeighs 25 pounds (should be about 15)  Short list: Happy, Sweet, Housetrained/Pee Pad trained, mostly blinded, loves dogs and needs a dog friend, blind, cat friendly, must have fenced yard because she gets scared on a leash. The first thing you notice about this sweet gal is her tail. It wags and wags and wags. And the first word that comes to mind when we think of this adorable gal is happy. Check out the videos in the comments to see for yourself – we promise it will make your day. When Sassy arrived with us, she was anything but happy. Her owner that she loved dearly left for a scuba diving outing one day and never came home. This gal was totally shut down as she mourned the loss of her person, who died in a tragic scuba accident. But over the past few weeks, we have watched her heal and blossom in her foster home, which is one of our favorite parts of rescue. Sassy is mostly (if not totally) blind, but it doesn’t stop her one single bit in the house. She figures out the lay of the land quickly and even learned how to use a ramp to get on the sofa – one of her favorite spots. Sassy loves her foster siblings (she was even find with a crazy visiting puppy), and they bring her comfort – we joke that her favorite friend (a calm older dog) is her personal seeing eye dog. To help her be her best self, we are looking for a home with at least one other dog.   We don’t usually require fences to adopt (so please don’t send us nastygrams), but this is an exception. Because of her vision issues, Sassy freezes on a leash and gets very scared – so she must have a fence – no exceptions. However, she does great navigating the yard without a leash. While this gal is pee pad trained right now, she also does her business outside so she should be relatively easy to move off the pee pads if her new home wants to. And yes, Sassy is our latest biggest loser candidate. This gal needs to lose at least 10 pounds – to be at her healthy weight. Because exercise isn’t in her near future with the leash issue, we need a family committed to a strict diet. Sassy is UTD on shots, spayed, had a dental and a cherry eye repaired. Her new family will need to travel to Raleigh to adopt her – no transports. We prefer to adopt within four hours of Central NC. To get the process started of adopting this cutie pie, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application She’s cute. She’s sweet. She plays well with others. She’s laid back. And she’s not going to turn your house upside down. She fits right in and goes with the flow. Simply put, Sassy is a great dog. ##1705699##
