Meet Piper Roo – A Snuggly Little Dachshund with a Big Heart and Playful Spirit Quick Facts: Breed: Miniature Dachshund Age: 3 years Weight: 12 lbs House-Trained: Yes (may have occasional excited dribbles) Crate-Trained: Yes, but can be left alone without a crate Good with Dogs: Yes, loves dogs of all sizes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes, lived comfortably with a toddler Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: No Medical Note: Due to past severe delayed reactions to DHPP, she requires pre-medication with dexamethasone and Benadryl and veterinary supervision for any/all future vaccines for life. Why You’ll Love Piper Roo: Extremely affectionate and bonds quickly with her people Loves to play, especially fetch, and enjoys being part of the action Gets along beautifully with adults, kids, dogs, and cats Sweet, social, and happiest when she’s not alone Full of charming dachshund quirks that make her extra lovable About Piper Roo’s Breed: Miniature Dachshunds are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and big personalities packed into small bodies. They tend to be affectionate, playful, and deeply bonded to their people. Piper Roo is a perfect example of the breed—snuggly, social, a little stubborn, and endlessly endearing. Piper Roo’s Story & Personality: Piper Roo is a complete lovebug who thrives on companionship. While she can be left alone without a crate, she truly prefers having another dog around to keep her company—though it’s not a requirement. She plays well with dogs of all sizes and lived peacefully with a 20-month-old child, showing her gentle and adaptable nature. She can be slightly skittish at first but warms up quickly—she was napping on her foster’s lap within 30 minutes of arriving home. Piper adores people, including men, and has no fear in that regard. She’s affectionate, playful, and loves to be involved in whatever her people are doing. As a classic dachshund, Piper does have some signature traits: she can bark at noises, needs regular potty breaks to prevent accidents, and has a stubborn streak. Because of this, she would do best with an experienced dachshund owner who understands and appreciates the breed. Piper Roo’s Ideal Home: A home with another dog would be ideal, though not required An adopter familiar with dachshund traits and needs A family or individual who enjoys snuggles, playtime, and companionship A home where she isn’t left alone for long periods Someone who will embrace her loving, quirky personality Ready to Welcome a Snuggly Sidekick into Your Life? Piper Roo is sweet, playful, and full of love to give. With the right home, she’ll be a devoted companion who brings warmth, laughter, and plenty of cuddles to everyday life. Important Medical Note: Piper Roo has a documented history of delayed, severe reactions to the DHPP vaccine. Any future vaccinations must follow the same protocol used by our veterinarian: pre-treatment with dexamethasone and Benadryl, administered by a veterinarian, with post-vaccine observation. This protocol will need to be followed for her lifetime. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. To ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. As part of our commitment to responsible adoption practices, we require excellent veterinarian references and conduct virtual home visits. Additionally, your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We assist with coordinating transportation by both land and air whenever feasible. All assessments regarding breed and age are conducted by licensed veterinarians. We look forward to assisting you in finding your perfect canine companion!January 2, 2026, 5:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Boo Boo requires an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application. PLEASE submit an application now at:   The link to our application is https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC          Miss Boo Boo is a very friendly and gets along fine with other dogs.  She is fostered with a pack of five other dogs.  While she does not actively interact with them, she acknowledges their presence and will push them aside so that she can receive pats from her humans. She loves her humans!!     She would do fine as an only dog or one of many. Her foster household does not have cats so we are not sure how she will get along with cats.  Her energy is low, she is such a couch potato!  She will lay with her head next to you and her eyes will look longing into yours as you pat her and show her affection.  The youngest child she has been around is 10 years old, but her temperament leads me to believe that she would do fine with children over 5 who are dog savvy.  .  Boo Boo is very food motivated but does not guard the resource. She does not need to be crated and does fine having free roaming privileges in her foster home. She is used to a fenced yard and would probably do best in a home with a fenced yard.   Boo Boo is an adorable grand lady that is looking for her forever home and would welcome the love and attention she so richly deserves.  EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:  Sadly, Boo Boo's owner passed away and she ended up in a rural shelter. Best Friend Pet Adoption stepped in knowing that senior dogs are rarely adopted from shelters and she was at risk.  We are now trying to find a good home for her.   Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Frederick is our sweet little old man. He was found as a stray and landed in a shelter. We rescued him soon after. He was a shelter favorite and needed a dental asap. He also had some skin issues but now his skin has cleared up and he is flea free. He immediately blended in with his foster family of dogs and new humans. He loves to play with his ball and sunbathe on the deck. He is definitely a lap dog but he does love his special chair. Good with all dogs and cats, neutered and heartworm negative.
