Story
Meet Zafiro (Zaffy) Age: 2 years old Breed: Red Smooth Dachshund Weight: 18 lbs (Spayed) Origin: Mexico Zafiro, lovingly known as Zaffy, is a beautiful, fun-loving young Dachshund with a playful spirit and a heart full of love. After making the journey from Mexico to Canada, she has settled beautifully into foster care and is now ready to find a forever family who understands and appreciates the unique personality of this wonderful breed. Personality Zaffy is everything people love about Dachshunds! She is playful, curious, intelligent, and full of character. She enjoys running around the yard, chasing her shadow, playing with her dog friends, and having the occasional "zoomie" session. Once she's had her fun, she's happy to curl up and relax with her favourite person. Like many Dachshunds, Zaffy has a mind of her own. If you've owned a Doxie before, you'll know they come with their own adorable quirks and a stubborn streak that simply makes them who they are. She communicates well and isn't shy about letting you know when she'd like something, which is all part of her charming personality. Zaffy forms a very strong bond with her people and is an incredibly loyal companion. The Home We're Looking For Because we want Zaffy to have the very best life, our first choice will be an adopter who has previous Dachshund experience. If you haven't owned one before, we would also consider a home where the family has taken the time to thoroughly research the breed, their personalities, and their unique health needs. Although Zaffy is a healthy young dog, Dachshunds are well known for being prone to back injuries. Jumping on and off furniture can put unnecessary strain on their spine, so her new family must be committed to using ramps and preventing her from jumping from couches, beds, or other high furniture. A detached home with a secure, fenced yard would be ideal so she has a safe place to run, play, and enjoy her zoomies. Because of her natural prey drive, we feel a home without cats would be the best fit. Zaffy would also do best in an adult-only home. Like many Dachshunds, she can be a little stubborn at times, so she'll thrive with patient, understanding adults who are committed to positive, consistent training. Training Zaffy is still learning about life as a family dog. Since she lived as a free-roaming dog in Mexico, she's continuing to build her confidence with leash walking and adapting to everyday routines. She also experiences some separation anxiety and currently does best when she isn't left alone for long periods. With patience, consistency, and time, she continues to make progress. A Loyal Companion If you're a Dachshund lover, you'll recognize everything that makes this breed so special in Zaffy. She's funny, affectionate, entertaining, and incredibly devoted to her people. Given the right home, patience, and understanding, she'll reward her family with years of love, laughter, and loyal companionship. If you think Zaffy could be the missing piece of your family, we'd love to hear from you! ******** As my foster family gets to know me my profile can change and will be updated accordingly. Check back often for details! An application for me can be found at www.justpaws.ca. Just Paws is located in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. We do not adopt out of province or country. Please note that although many of our dogs get along with children, we are not able to adopt to any household with kids under the age of 8 years old. This is a stipulation of our insurance and is not a reflection on suitability of the potential adopter.
