Story
We are moving overseas for a temporary job and looking to rehome our beloved pup Archie until we return in January 2026. We adopted Archie in 2014 and he's now the most puppy-faced 10-year-old boy you've ever seen (seriously, we still get stopped on the street constantly asking if he's a puppy!). He has been a loyal companion, witnessing our family grow as we married and welcomed two human babies, now ages 6 and 2. Archie is a top-notch snuggler, full of energy on walks, and incredibly patient with little ones. Until very recently he would run his little heart out at the dog park, consistently faster than dogs half his age. Having spent the first year of his life in shelters, however, he does come with some baggage and still experiences separation anxiety. Archie would do best in a home with at least one person home the majority of the time and/or with another dog to keep him company. He is house-trained, but resists the crate. Please consider taking in our special guy!

Story
MEET SAM! (Descriptor: Snuggler) This silly and happy-go-lucky ~2yr old guy was brought in by animal control for being tied outside with no shelter or food/water. His past has not affected him one bit, and he absolutely loves life, people and other dogs. His records say he is a Doberman mix, but we don't believe it. Because of his delicious OVERbite, we think he may be part shark! At 55 lbs, he'd fit in any pool or tub. Sam knows 'sit,' 'down,' 'wait,' 'leave it,' and has excellent leash manners. He has been training with his foster Mom and now drops into a down position and patiently waits for his food despite being just soooo excited to eat! He (mostly) comes when called and will wait to be released in the morning after sleeping on his dog bed so he won’t rush his family when getting up. Sam is house broken and crate trained, and he enjoys taking naps outside of his crate during the day. While Sam adores attention and affection and he will practically swoon when you brush him. His love language is physical touch! He will lean and bend around you on the couch until he settles half on and half off your lap. Even though he loooooves his people, Sam can entertain himself with his chew toy. Sam absolutely loves other dogs and plays well and hard with both male and female dogs his size or smaller. Sam lives successfully with another dog and a dog savvy cat in his foster home. We recommend he go to a home with another dog and we know he is good with children 12 and up.  Sam’s adoption donation fee is $400, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for Sam by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org.  Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.April 16, 2024, 8:50 pm

Story
Batman is a 2-year-old black and rust male with cropped ears and a natural tail. He is on the small side at 58 pounds and reminds me of a black panther. Don’t let his small size fool you, he has a big personality. He is a sweet, friendly, loving boy who follows me around wanting to know everything I’m doing. He is very happy, wiggly and loves to give kisses. He enjoys playing with my dogs or is content to play with a toy or chase his tail. He rides well in the car and walks pretty good on a leash. He is very food motivated and picked up on the routine here quickly. He has good house manners in general but will counter surf and occasionally chew on something inappropriate in boredom. He has had some accidents in the house but with training he has improved. He has a good energy level having plenty of energy for play or exercise but also good to relax and hang out. He is crate trained and likes a Kong or toy while in there. He is good out of the crate overnight, but I don’t leave him unattended in the house otherwise. He needs more training in general but has learned to sit for treats. He’s unknown with cats or children but is good with other dogs. He’s a happy, super cool guy looking for his forever home. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Max is a 3 year old, black/rust, docked, natural eared lump of sweetness that weighs in at around 74lbs and has average activity level. Max is a sweet heart that has yet to meet a human he has not liked. He is house trained and spends his time while we are away in his ex pen snoring away. He's learning how to wait to go out of a door until given the okay, he knows sit and down, has started to wait to eat until given the okay and we are working on him giving his paw. He will need solid work in his leash manners. We have never had an issue taking anything away from him and he has had no problems if you approach his bowl while he eats. At night he sleeps on a bed in our room and from day one has just gone with the flow of our routine and has blended right in. In his previous home he lived with four other dogs and a cat. He liked to chase the cat. Max will make sure that you are never alone and will follow you wherever you go. He will lay his head in our lap for love and will look up at you with complete adoration and just wait for you to pay attention to him. He's had baths and nail trims while with us and has done well with both. Max is waiting for a family that will love him for who he is and will help him become the dog he can be. Max is being fostered in Maryland. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Meet Coco! She is a sweet, 9-year-old Blue Doberman. She loves to be anywhere and everywhere that you are! Coco is a healthy girl who weighs about 66 pounds and has a docked tail and natural ears. Coco also has a beautiful full coat of fur. Coco is house trained. She is not a fan of being crated so I have left her with run of the house when I am not home without incident. Coco will whine when I am gone so she would be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time. Coco enjoys using her nose to explore our yard and loves taking walks in our woods and down our road. Coco may jump around and pull on the leash if she sees a cat or other small animal. Coco gets excited when she sees deer. She also loves to relax and lay in the sun when outside! https://youtu.be/Zcscqwxr1EE?si=Lvbu2x4QHIopaVKA Coco enjoys nibbling on a couple of her favorite plush toys and will usually have one or two with her most of the time. She does like to sleep in our bed, but she tends to stay in her spot and isn’t a bed hog. She also likes to lay next to you on the couch. Coco likes meeting new people, including children, and enjoys getting the extra attention from them. Coco is dog reactive and will need a home without other dogs. Coco is not good with cats. Coco loves to take car rides and will keep watch out the windows for most of the ride. Coco goes with me to my office most mornings. We usually do not see any of my coworkers, but when we do, she enjoys meeting them. Coco is a well-mannered girl who allows me to Dremel her nails, bathe her, and wipe her feet when wet before coming inside the house. If you’re looking for an older, calmer Doberman than Coco would be a great companion for you. She is currently located in Virginia. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.
