Story
MEET SAM!!   This silly and happy-go-lucky 14 month old puppy was brought in by animal control for being tied outside with no shelter or food/water. His past has not affected him one bit, and he absolutely loves people and other dogs.   His records say he is a doberman mix, but we don't believe it. Because of his delicious OVERbite, we think he may be part shark! At 43 lbs, he'd fit in any pool or tub, but this land shark hates baths and getting wet in general.    Sam knows 'sit,' 'down,' 'wait,' 'leave it,' and is learning not to pull on a leash. He doesn't want to miss a single smell or opportunity to sniff, so we are teaching him that if he walks nicely, the smell will still be there. It's so hard to be patient when the fresh grass and flowers smell so good!   Sam is house broken and crate trained. He has had a couple of accidents in his crate, but that was due to human error.   Sam's overbite is really something else, and it just makes him so Sam! He does sometimes nibble fingers when taking treats, but he can't help it, so we give him treats on the side of his mouth instead of the front, so fingers are spared.    Sam absolutely loves other dogs and plays well and hard with both male and female dogs his size or smaller. We recommend he go to a home with another dog and with children 12 and up. He will jump up on his person when he comes out of his crate, and we are working on that, but we would hate for Sam to accidentally knock a small child to the ground. Sam's adoption donation fee is $400, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip.  You can apply for Sam by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.net or www.tarashouse.org.  Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.September 26, 2023, 1:12 pm

Story
Meet Kingsley, a super sweet 3 year old male red Doberman with natural ears and a docked tail. Kingsley weighs approximately 80 pounds. On our walks, people often stop us to tell us how handsome Kingsley is, and we agree! Come meet him and see for yourself! Here's a few things you will love about Kingsley's personality: he often sits so proper with his front paws crossed (check out his photos); you'll always find his tail wagging, even as he drinks his water; and he's perfected the Doberman lean, especially while being pet! Kingsley loves to be around people and has done well meeting new people in our house. Outside, he enjoys running around and exploring in our yard. He also loves going on walks and walks pretty well with a harness. Kingsley rides well in the car, and he did excellent at his vet visit. His forever home will need to continue to work on his training. He sometimes jumps up to say hi and he's a big "puppy" that still plays a little rough with his humans sometimes. He is food motivated and does really well with a routine though. Kingsley tends to chew on blankets and pillows if he can. When unsupervised, he does well in a crate or in a dog-proof area, such as a spare room or dog-gated off area. He respects the gates and does not try to knock them down or jump over them. Kingsley is dog friendly. He would love a dog friend to play with or he'd do well as an only dog. Kingsley is in Maryland. DAR&E places dogs in DE, DC, MD, VA, Eastern WVA and Southern PA only. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This is lovely Lorelai. An adorable au naturale Doberman/Labrador with soft floppy ears you can't help rubbing and a long tail that never stops wagging. You get the best of both breeds with this special girl! Lorelai was found as a stray. She is estimated to be 3-5 years old. It looked like she was a new mama, but no puppies could be found. It's clear she hasn't had a pampered life, but she couldn't be any sweeter, and she's looking for a home that will give her all the love she deserves because, literally, that's all she wants. It is a pleasure to walk Lorelai. She does very well on a leash. She rarely pulls. She spends most of a walk in the heel position without even knowing that's where she's supposed to be. She will lunge at a squirrel on occasion, if you're not looking, but a gentle "leave it" reminder gets her attention. There's no speed walking with Lorelai, so she would not be a good running partner. She is food motivated and will counter-surf if given the opportunity. She does not know basic commands, but as she is such a laid-back, easy-going lady, she is well behaved. Most of her time is spent following her person around, and napping if you finally stay in one place. She will love everyone in the family, but she clearly needs the love and attention of the one she has determined is the leader (the one who walks and feeds her). She is 110% lapdog and wants to be as close to you as possible. When left alone, she spends time in her crate. She barks and cries for a few minutes at first, but calms down and is good for up to 7-8 hours. As you get to know her and trust her, she would most certainly be ok out of the crate when alone. At night she likes to sleep next to her person. She doesn't snuggle too close and politely gives you your space. She's happy just to be near you. She is housebroken and it's obvious she knows her way around a house, so it seems that she had a home at one point. She rides well in the car and waits politely at the front door until you open it. She doesn't show interest in toys or chewing bones, but absolutely loves treats and a peanut butter-filled Kong. Lorelai can be an only dog or in a home with a doggie friend. If you're looking for a sweet companion who will love you unconditionally, Lorelai is your gal. DAR&E places dogs in DE, DC, MD, VA, Eastern WVA and Southern PA only. Story
Acadia and Mya are a very loving pair of bonded cream w/white marking sisters. They are 4 years old and weigh 75-80 lbs. They have a great medium energy level, some playtime, romping, then long naps. They are chill when they follow you around the house. Both love to meet new people and children. Both girls adore being petted, getting butt scratches / ear rubs, and snuggle time. They will both randomly touch you with their paws to let you know they’d like to be petted. So cute! Cadi likes to play with toys. She’s been gentle with stuffies and she likes squeakers. The funniest thing is seeing Cadi rooting through the toy bin to see what she’d like to play with next. Cadi also likes to get up close, sniff, and gently kiss your cheek. Mya likes playing with her stuffed bunny. She will even lay with it and on it. Mya is the first to jump up on the loveseat and make herself comfy. Mya will get up close and sniff your cheek, but she’s not a kisser like her sister is. Cadi is the more outgoing and engaging of the two. Mya can be reserved. Cadi can sometimes take over the attention and pets so we made sure to give Mya a lot of one on one time, which she really enjoyed as did we. She would give gentle kisses when it was one on one time. Both Acadia and Mya are house-trained and have very good house manners. They both sleep quietly in their crates at night with big fluffy beds and they have not had an accident. They are both fine to be left out of their crates. They love each other and at night they sleep next to each other in their dog beds, sometime with Cadi having physical contact with Mya during the night, usually laying her muzzle on Mya. They ride nicely in the car together. After a few days we found them to be very good on leash, not a lot of pulling and can be walked together by the same person. Cadi and Mya are both cream colored with white markings. They have beautiful blues eyes and cute pink noses. Much like fair complected people those cute pink noses may be susceptible to sunburn so their adopter should have doggie sunscreen (not people sunscreen) handy if outside for an extended period of time. For example: LUCKY PUP SPF40 Lotion Dog Cream Sunscreen, 2.3-oz bottle - Chewy.com If you are interested in meeting Acadia and Mya, contact her foster parent today! We would like to place them together. They are in Virginia. DAR&E places dogs in DE, DC, MD, VA, Eastern WVA and Southern PA only. Story
Sasha is a 3 1/2 year old, black/rust European bred female Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. She currently weighs about 70 pounds and is full of exuberant energy. This is an on-the-go girl. Are you a runner and looking for a partner? This is your girl. Do you need a companion for long walks? This is your girl. Are you looking for a couch potato to binge watch with? This probably isn’t your girl. Do you have a large, fenced yard to play and burn off energy? This could be your girl. Sasha is a sweet girl who will slow down long enough to bring her favorite ball to you to toss for her or to put her head in your lap for some love. She’s a very smart girl but needs some fine tuning. She pulls on the leash, sometimes jumps up and counter surfs. She hasn’t shown a lot of interest in the furniture and is crate trained. She settles down when you leave but will bark more in the crate if you’re around. She does well out overnight and rides quietly in the car. She can be initially hesitant with new people but warms up quickly especially if treats are involved. Sasha would benefit from someone who is Doberman experienced, especially with a European bred Doberman due to their having stronger working drive than American bred Dobermans. She has a couple of favorite balls that she likes to play with, bringing them to you or just carrying them around. She has an uncanny ability to get her toys stuck under the furniture and then scramble to get them out. She is very amusing chasing her tail and bucking in circles. This girl will play for hours. She really needs a large, fenced yard to play in. She would do well with other dogs of similar size and energy or just by herself. She has been with older children in the past but probably wouldn’t do well with cats or small animals. DAR&E places dogs in DE, DC, MD, VA, Eastern WVA and Southern PA only.
