Story
Anabelle is being virtually fostered by Union Veterinary Clinic. We thank Union Veterinary Clinic for giving Anabelle additional exposure so we can get her adopted right away! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: trailshomefarm@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Trails Home Farm, 2581 Winchester Rd, Delaplane, VA HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: Any dog located at Trails Home Farm or in foster require an appointment for any approved adopter to have a meet and greet. ADOPTION FEE: $475 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet our Farm Diva, Anabelle! This princess is a real character. She prefers it if we all work around her schedule. She loves her walks and does well on a leash, but you can't rush her. She likes to stop and smell the roses along the way. Anabelle finds it unacceptable when another dog yells at her from afar and she would rather not be friends with such rudeness. Anabelle is originally from Puerto Rico. Her owners left the island and didn't take Anabelle with them. She has been very sweet and social with staff but after everything she has been through, new people give her the scaries. Can you blame her? She needs a slow intro to new people as she can be easily overwhelmed by those that come on too strong. Once Anabelle gets over her nerves of meeting you for the first time, she will run circles around you with intermittent breaks meant for kisses and pets. When she's in a quiet environment, she settles quickly and is very affectionate. Anabelle has never had an accident in her kennel since being at the Farm. We never guarantee it but it's safe to say she's potty trained. It takes Anabelle multiple intros to warm up to other dogs. Her play style can be overwhelming so she needs some direction and supervision as she tends to get over stimulated easily due to her high energy level. We will update the profile as we do more dog introductions. KNOWN WITH DOGS: Anabelle will play with dogs but needs direction and supervision as she gets over stimulated easily. KNOWN WITH CATS: Unsure KNOWN WITH KIDS: Anabelle prefers when people around her go slow and give her a chance to get used to them. This may prove difficult for children. She also has a rough and tumble play style and might knock over a child on accident. KNOWN COMMANDS: Sit and Down, working on Place KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Anabelle will settle into her crate given a few minutes. KNOWN LIKES: Anabelle is food motivated and LOVES to run. KNOWN DISLIKES: Our little diva doesn't like being rushed. HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines and de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) A portion of EVERY ADOOPTION fee supports spay/neuter for animals in under-resourced communities. Story
We are moving overseas for a temporary job and looking to rehome our beloved pup Archie until we return in January 2026. We adopted Archie in 2014 and he's now the most puppy-faced 10-year-old boy you've ever seen (seriously, we still get stopped on the street constantly asking if he's a puppy!). He has been a loyal companion, witnessing our family grow as we married and welcomed two human babies, now ages 6 and 2. Archie is a top-notch snuggler, full of energy on walks, and incredibly patient with little ones. Until very recently he would run his little heart out at the dog park, consistently faster than dogs half his age. Having spent the first year of his life in shelters, however, he does come with some baggage and still experiences separation anxiety. Archie would do best in a home with at least one person home the majority of the time and/or with another dog to keep him company. He is house-trained, but resists the crate. Please consider taking in our special guy!

Story
Batman is a 2-year-old black and rust male with cropped ears and a natural tail. He is a sweet, friendly, loving boy who follows me around wanting to know everything I’m doing. He is very happy, wiggly and loves to give kisses. He enjoys playing with my dogs or is content to play with a toy or chase his tail. He rides well in the car and walks pretty good on a leash. He is very food motivated and picked up on the routine here quickly. He has good house manners although like a lot of dogs he may take food items off counters if the opportunity presents itself. Check his video https://youtu.be/EDhJ4nkCHac?si=g44dVGyWlRpZ-VfV Batman weighs about 60 pounds and has a big personality. He has a good energy level having plenty of energy for play or exercise but also good to relax and hang out. He is crate trained and likes a Kong or chew toy while in there. He is good out of the crate overnight, but is content to be in his crate when I am not home. He has learned to sit for treats. He’s unknown with cats or small children but is good with other dogs. He’s a happy, super cool guy looking for his forever home. Batman is fostered in Virginia. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Meet Coco! She is a sweet, 9-year-old Blue Doberman. She loves to be anywhere and everywhere that you are! Coco is a healthy girl who weighs about 66 pounds and has a docked tail and natural ears. Coco also has a beautiful full coat of fur. Coco is house trained. She is not a fan of being crated so I have left her with run of the house when I am not home without incident. Coco will whine when I am gone so she would be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time. Coco enjoys using her nose to explore our yard and loves taking walks in our woods and down our road. Coco may jump around and pull on the leash if she sees a cat or other small animal. Coco gets excited when she sees deer. She also loves to relax and lay in the sun when outside! https://youtu.be/Zcscqwxr1EE?si=Lvbu2x4QHIopaVKA Coco enjoys nibbling on a couple of her favorite plush toys and will usually have one or two with her most of the time. She does like to sleep in our bed, but she tends to stay in her spot and isn’t a bed hog. She also likes to lay next to you on the couch. Coco likes meeting new people, including children, and enjoys getting the extra attention from them. Coco is dog reactive and will need a home without other dogs. Coco is not good with cats. Coco loves to take car rides and will keep watch out the windows for most of the ride. Coco goes with me to my office most mornings. We usually do not see any of my coworkers, but when we do, she enjoys meeting them. Coco is a well-mannered girl who allows me to Dremel her nails, bathe her, and wipe her feet when wet before coming inside the house. If you’re looking for an older, calmer Doberman than Coco would be a great companion for you. She is currently located in Virginia. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Penny is roughly 1 year old female with docked tail and natural ears. She came to us by way of an owner surrender through no fault of her own. She has been such a joy to foster and we all have a special place in our hearts for her! Even though she is young, she is an “old soul” and just wants to be with you and give/receive love. She will nuzzle you for pets while at the computer, rolls over asking for belly rubs every chance she gets, and seeks to fall asleep on the couch with her head in your lap. Everyone that she meets quickly becomes smitten with her affectionate nature! She is housetrained, knows basic commands, is not destructive, has a mellow personality, and is a velcro dog. She does not play with many toys but loves a good dental chew. She has hesitation towards a crate, but doesn’t need one. She has had full run of the house without any incident. She doesn’t get on furniture except for the couch, and that is where you will find her 80% of the time. Penny loves to prop her head up on a couch pillow and wait for you to come join her. When not on the couch she loves to be on the deck to watch the birds and squirrels that come to the bird feeder. Penny likes to run after the critters but doesn’t seem to want to catch one. She will slowly walk towards the squirrels and get within a few feet of them almost as if she was trying to talk to them. She wouldn’t be a good dog for an active lifestyle. She walks well on the leash, and it’s more like a leisurely stroll than exercise. She doesn’t pull until she sees wildlife and then she uses her 66lb body to pursue them. It would be best to have a large fenced in yard for her to roam freely. No matter where she is, she wants to meet every human she sees! She will pull you towards both adults and kids so she can lean against them and nuzzle them to be petted. She is very friendly with people but is timid around other dogs. If you adopt Penny be ready to meet everyone on walks, restaurant patios, stores, and at the office. She is the perfect office dog and is quiet, makes the rounds greeting people, and naps under the desk. She is an extremely passive dog and will not do well in a household with dominant dog(s). It may take some time for her to build her confidence, but currently she won’t stand her ground when another dog takes something from her or pushes her out of the way. She responds very well to positive reinforcement training due to her sensitive nature. She is good with kids and possibly cats, but that has not been fully tested. She will never be a guard dog, but seeks to be a loving member of the family. She doesn’t bark and is not afraid of thunderstorms or loud noises such as the vacuum. Like most Dobermans she does not like to be in the rain and will hold her bladder for 24 hours+ until the rain stops before going potty. Penny is located in Richmond, Virginia. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Lucy is a very sweet, almost 4-month-old puppy with a docked tail and natural floppy ears that are easily her cutest feature. She weighs about 30lbs. She has typical puppy behavior inside and outside the house, and is learning all the sights, sounds, and smells of the world. Outside, she can be a little timid and shy initially, but with a few treats and sitting or kneeling down at her level she is likely to quickly make friends with you. She likes to investigate just about everything, but doesn't have the courage yet to wander too far from the house. Lucy loves to be outside in the yard, but must be supervised, for now, as she puts everything in her mouth; mulch, sticks, plants, patio furniture cushions, etc. She rides well in the car. After a few minutes of fussing, she'll curl up and sleep. Inside the house Lucy is just starting to learn good manners. She has learned the basics of "sit" while her food is being prepared and before going outside, and is learning it's OK for someone to momentarily take her food away. She is also learning that it's OK for someone to take something from her mouth. She is getting comfortable with lots of pets, tummy rubs and having hands on her paws, muzzle, ears, tail, hindquarters, etc. Lucy is crate trained. She is crated when left alone in the house. So far, she is good for up to 5 hours with no accidents. She hasn't been crated longer than that. She is doing exceptionally well on house training. She still has occasional accidents, but they are by the door. She has learned to go to the door when she needs to go out. She goes out frequently if she's playing. Like most puppies she likes to pick up just about everything she finds; shoes, socks, and her favorite...slippers. Lucy sleeps in her bed, in the bedroom and most nights sleeps through from about 10pm to 5am. Some mornings she sneaks into her foster mom's bed to snuggle for the last 30 minutes or so before the alarm goes off. Lucy will climb on the couch to lie next to you. Like all Dobermans, she just wants to be close to you. Lucy spent the weekend with an adult Doberman, which was her first encounter with another dog. After the initial fear wore off, she played for hours. While she won't leave her street by herself, she followed the other dog around the neighborhood without hesitation. It was a huge confidence boost for her. Lucy would do well in a home with an older brother or sister to show her the ropes. Lucy requires a fully fenced yard. She is currently located in VA. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.
