Story
Meet Shasta! Shasta and her brother, Bear, were found as strays, very thin and hungry. Thankfully, those difficult days are behind them, and both pups are now safe in a loving foster home, getting the care, comfort, and affection they deserve! Shasta is a beautiful girl who is even more stunning in person than any photo can capture! She has a gorgeous grayish-brown coat and the cutest little cowlick on her neck that makes her extra special. But her beauty is more than skin deep! Shasta enjoyed all the attention she received at her adoption event and was absolutely wonderful with the kids she met. This sweet girl is ready to leave her rough start behind and begin the next chapter of her life with a family to call her own. She has so much love and happiness ahead of her, and we can't wait to see her find the people who will cherish her forever.Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org October 13, 2026, 8:04 pm

Story
Meet Bear! Bear’s story started out rough. He and his sister, Shasta, were taken in by Animal Control as strays, emaciated and with every bone showing. Thankfully, those hard days are behind him, and Bear is now safe in his AFH foster home, where he’s getting the love, care, and nourishment he deserves. This handsome boy is very sweet boy and has bounced back beautifully! Bear is playful, loving, and easygoing, with a gentle personality that is beginning to shine more each day. He was a bit shy at first but warmed up to people by the end of his first adoption event. He loved all the attention he got from all the children who came to visit his puppy pen! So far, Bear has been a quiet, laid-back little guy who seems happy to take life one day at a time. Bear has already shown us how resilient he is, and now he’s ready for the next chapter of his story — one filled with love, security, and a family of his very own. Could you be the one to show Bear just how wonderful life can be? ❤️Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org October 13, 2026, 8:04 pm

Story
Every Grinch deserves a Max, but every Max deserves a real home. At just 8 months old and 46 lbs, he is the ultimate loyal sidekick. He is super playful, loving, and gets along great with kids, cats, and other dogs. Max is just looking for a family of his own to love. If you have room in your heart and your home for a truly devoted, sweet pup, Max is waiting for you. If you are interested in adopting there is an application below: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PDAR/Dog Most of our dogs are rescued from high-intake shelters or straight off the streets in South Texas, where packs of stray animals run loose. Your adoption fee directly covers the significant costs required to bring these dogs to safety. We are a registered non-profit rescue; any excess revenue goes directly toward treating animals with major medical needs who would otherwise be left behind and euthanized. Your adoption fee fully covers: Transport: Safe transport from Texas to our local foster homes (this cost alone is $200 to $230 per dog). Vetting & Preventive Care: Spay or neuter surgery (if old enough), core vaccines, deworming, a heartworm test (if old enough), and a microchip. VCA Medical Partnership: Every adoption includes a complimentary first exam at any participating VCA Animal Hospital within the first 14 days. VCA also provides a limited health guarantee (up to $250) for minor illnesses—like kennel cough or ear infections—diagnosed during that initial two-week window. Important Rescue Policies No Foster-to-Adopt Program: We do not offer a foster-to-adopt option. The majority of our dogs are already settled into loving local foster homes, and we aim to minimize unnecessary moves for their emotional well-being. Additionally, our rescue insurance policy strictly prohibits it. Breed and Size Guarantees: We cannot guarantee the breed mix or adult size of any dog in our care. Listed breeds are our best guess based on physical traits and personality. Because our dogs are rescues with unknown histories, we cannot guarantee that a dog is not mixed with pit bull. This is a standard reality of adopting a rescue animal. Stay Connected! Story
Meet Cooper, an approximately 1.5 year old, black and tan male Doberman with a docked tail and natural ears. Cooper is approximately 70 pounds and growing. He is handsome and gets lots of compliments while we are out. Cooper is friendly and enthusiastic about life! He is both crate trained and house trained and settles into a daily routine quickly. Cooper already has a good training foundations. He knows "sit," "down," "paw," "speak," and "drop it." Like many young Dobermans, he is still working on his puppy manners. He is learning that keeping four paws on the floor is the best way to say hello, but for now he still jumps up when excited. He also countersurfs. On leash, Cooper is using a front-clip harness. He will need continued work on his leash skills. Cooper is non-reactive to passing strangers or barking yard dogs, though he will show friendly excitement when other dogs are walking nearby, hoping to make a new playmate. While he hasn't had off-leash dog-to-dog introductions in his foster home yet, his history notes that he is dog-friendly. When it comes to playtime, Cooper is not destructive with furniture or household items, but he is a power chewer with his own toys! Soft plushies do not stand a chance against him, so he requires ultra-durable, power-chewer toys, along with normal supervision during play to ensure he doesn't ingest toy pieces. Once settled in, Cooper is a good passenger for car trips. Because he likes to try to join the driver upfront, securing him in a travel crate or with a dog seatbelt harness works best. With his foster family, he took a 1.5 hour car trip and relaxed with them at an outdoor patio restaurant. He was great company! He was also a favorite at the vet for his check-up. Cooper will do best in an active home committed to continuing his training, monitoring his play, and giving him the mental and physical exercise he needs to thrive as a young, playful Doberman with plenty of energy. A home with a fenced-in yard where he can safely zoom around would be his dream. He loves carrying the jolly ball, tennis balls, and frisbees around the yard while he runs and stretches his legs. Are you ready to welcome this sweet and handsome boy into your family? Cooper is ready for his forever family. He is currently fostered in Maryland. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Meet Cody, a happy-go-lucky 12-year-old black & tan male Doberman. Cody has beautifully cropped ears, a docked tail, and weighs 90 pounds. Cody came into the rescue through no fault of his own when his owner passed away. He is a total love bug! Cody recently had a checkup with our vet and left with flying colors. His blood work came back great, and the vet didn’t hear any issues with his heart! He is healthy, 12-year-old. He was so happy to meet and greet everyone at the vet office, and they said he was the best boy! Cody has a little anxiety and gets scared during thunderstorms. He has a Thundershirt that helps calm his anxiety during the storms, but he still does some pacing. Cody is looking for a calm, relaxed forever home where he can be a couch potato and can also receive some not too strenuous exercise throughout the day. Cody would do best in a one-level home without too many stairs. He would also do better with carpeting or non-slip rugs throughout his home. His older body is a little slow to get up so having good traction under his feet is necessary. Cody rides well in the car and tends to just lay in the back seat until we arrive at our destination. Cody is house trained, but he is not a fan of crates. At his age, a crate isn’t needed for him. He spends his days lounging on his favorite bed, waiting patiently for his people to get home from work. He also sleeps on that favorite bed at night. Cody is not really into playimg with toys, but he does have a few that he will carry around the house. His favorite is his orange tennis ball. Cody is a happy, smart, VERY loving boy who quickly claimed us as his people. He is a typical Velcro Doberman who wants to follow you everywhere. He loves attention from everyone! Cody is happily awaiting his forever home and is currently being fostered in Virginia. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA.
