Story
Meet Bear, a five-year old, black & tan, male Doberman, weighing approximately 90 pounds. Bear is a striking, sensitive, and people-oriented Doberman who is looking for a calm, structured, and Doberman-experienced forever home. He is deeply loyal to his caregivers and thrives on consistent routine, clear leadership, and positive guidance. When first meeting new people or encountering new situations, Bear can be cautious and unsure. With patient, confident handling, he settles in nicely and reveals his affectionate, devoted nature. Once comfortable, Bear becomes a true “velcro Doberman,” preferring to stay close to his people and be included in daily life. Bear is intelligent and responsive. He knows his basic commands, is fully house-trained, and is crate-trained for rest or decompression when needed. He LOVES to ride in the car, both in and out of the crate, and handles transitions best when expectations are clear and predictable. With other respectful dogs, Bear is generally social and playful and tends to match their energy appropriately. He does best with proper introductions and structured management in new environments. Despite his size, he is gentle at heart and benefits from a calm household atmosphere. Bear has typical Doberman drive and requires daily physical exercise and mental stimulation to remain balanced and content. He is not destructive, but he should be provided with regular enrichment, training, or engaging activities to prevent boredom. Long walks, structured play, puzzle toys, scent work, or continued training will all help him thrive. Ideal Home for Bear Bear will do best in a home that offers: - Doberman experience (required) - A calm, predictable environment with consistent routine - A secure, fully fenced yard - Active adopter(s) committed to daily exercise and enrichment - An adult-only home without children - A home without cats Bear is not suited for first-time large-breed owners, low-activity homes, or households seeking an independent dog. He needs leadership, structure, and connection to be his best self. For the right adopter, Bear will be a deeply loyal, affectionate, and devoted companion who truly wants to be your partner in life. Bear is being fostered in Maryland. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Meet Alara, a bright eyed, black and tan, female Doberman with natural ears and a docked tail. She is approximately one year old and weighs 55 pounds. Alara is a lover and adores having her ears and shoulders massaged. She loves resting her head in your hand or on your leg. Alara entered foster care with DAR&E in early February. She knows “sit” and has been working on crate training and the cues “wait/release”, “laydown”, and “leave it”. She’s very treat motivated, and has been doing great with training. Alara loves her crate, thinking of it as a big treat dispenser, and often going in by herself to take a nap. Currently she’s been practicing with shorter periods of time in her crate. It will be a while longer before she can be left for hours every day. Around the house she’s fairly independent in playing with toys and trotting around. Outside, she adores walks and walking around the yard. Overall she doesn’t seem to mind the chilly temperatures and navigates walking on the snow/icy spots well. As a young pup, daily exercise is very important. She's a bit nervous at the vet and around new things, showing her nervousness with barking. She responds well and is able to reset and settle in a short amount of time. Alara will require an adopter with prior Doberman or working dog experience, and someone, providing structure in her life and exposing her to things little by little. She will also need someone who has experience with younger dogs, providing appropriate chews and toys and understanding puppyish behavior. In Alara’s first several days, she reacted to new noises by barking. She’d bark when the heating unit came on or the refrigerator came on and would also bark at external noises. We started calmly saying the word “noisy” and have seen a huge difference in Alara’s composure, and also her ability to bark a little and then settle. Both when she’s relaxed and after she’s been a bit worked up we’ve been saying “you’re fine”. This has really been helping with her being more relaxed, her ability to fairly quickly calm after getting worked up, and her need for human connection. She will need an adopter’s continuing help with desensitization and also gradually and slowly seeing a dog at a distance and determining her level of comfort. Alara is a sweet, loving girl who hasn’t had the best start in life. She will thrive with a kind, patient person. Alara is being fostered in Maryland and would love to meet you! Story
Meet Pepper – Pepper is a stunning female Doberman with a heart to match her beauty. She is approximately 5 years old, black & tan, cropped and docked. She is highly intelligent, incredibly loving, gentle & deeply affectionate once she feels safe. Pepper has a calm, soulful presence & bonds closely with her people. She truly is beautiful inside & out. Pepper is fully house-trained and has excellent house manners. Pepper knows her basic commands, including sit, stay, and lie down, and she is eager to please. She will thrive in a calm, structured home where she can continue building confidence & trust. She would be happiest in a home where her human family is home most of the day. Pepper is an excellent passenger in the car and genuinely enjoys car rides, making her a wonderful companion for errands or road trips. When out and about, Pepper may react to the presence of other dogs, and she may bark, but she is responsive to her handler. She will likely do best as an only dog, but proper introductions to another dog companion may be okay. To our knowledge, Pepper has not been exposed to children or cats, so introduction should be done slowly and thoughtfully. Pepper is a truly special girl – beautiful, loyal, and full of love. She is looking for a patient, understanding home where she can continue to blossom and finally enjoy the life she deserves. If you’re looking for a devoted companion with a gentle soul, Pepper may be your perfect match. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Story
Meet Grace and Willow, a bonded pair of female Dobermans whose connection is as beautiful as their names. They are currently receiving the medical care they need and are expected to be ready for their forever home around March. We are looking for a forever home where Grace and Willow can stay together and settle into the life they deserve. Grace and Willow are fostered in Virginia. Grace is an absolute sweetheart. She is approximately 4 years old, and she is quite calm for a young Doberman. Grace is blue with cropped ears and a docked tail. She loves a good chase outside, a fun walk and lots of toys. She would do great in a quiet household with her buddy Willow. She was a little timid and unsure of her surroundings when first rescued. Through patience, love and the support of her friend Willow, Grace has really come out of her shell! She gets excited at meal times, can't wait to play outside and loves to play with her toys! She is also a big fan of football Sunday naps on the couch. She is not crate trained, but does okay in a puppy-proof room with Willow when her foster parents go out. Grace is a sock thief! She is good with cats and other female dogs. She also lives with a 16 year old, small, female dog, 1 female cat and 1 male cat in her foster home. At this time, she is unknown with male dogs and children, as she has not had the opportunity to be introduced to either while in her foster home. At first, she is very excited when introduced to new animals. She does pull on the leash and is doing well with leash training. Willow is the definition of velcro dog. She is either next to her human, or her buddy Grace. As with most Dobermans, she thinks she is a lap dog and requires pets 24/7. She has not gotten the love she needed in the past, but she makes sure she gets it now! Willow is approximately 7 years old and does require a slower paced household. She has arthritis, spondylosis and hip dysplasia. Her bones may be old, but she does not let that slow her spirit. She likes to run around with her friend Grace, just not as fast and that's okay! She loves a short game of fetch with her favorite squeaky tennis ball. Willow is red with cropped ears and a docked tail. She has eyes that can melt anyone’s heart. Once you get that puppy dog look from Willow, you're hooked! Like Grace, she was also timid when first rescued. She needed to be close to someone all the time and seemed very nervous about her surroundings. She still likes to be close to people but has grown strong and brave! Willow is not crate trained, but her foster parents see no need for a crate. No destructive behaviors have been observed. She is a mild leash puller. She requires a slow feeder bowl (which will come with her) because she eats very fast. Willow is good with cats and other dogs. She also lives with a 16 year old, small, female dog, 1 female cat and 1 male cat in her foster home. Willow is unknown with male dogs and unknown with children, as she has not had the opportunity to be introduced to either while in her foster home. Story
My dad had purchased Chief from a neighbor when Chief was (6) weeks old. My dad had enjoyed taking Chief on walks around the block, watching Chief run freely inside the yard, and even simply enjoyed the times when Chief simply sat or lay at my dad's feet watching television as if he was actually watching. Chief is a healthy, cheerful, and energetic companion whom we regret that my dad is no longer able to care for due to my dad's medical condition.

Story
This adorable spirited little boy and his siblings came in to rescue last winter after they were dumped on a back country road. Their mother was found deceased, so we took the puppies in to try to save them. They were very sick initially but are very healthy now. Barnabas is a gentle little boy, but dose love to run and play with other dogs. He has done amazing with his house and crate training. He is so deserving of a wonderful home to call his own. She is fostered in East TN, but transportation is included in the adoption fee and provided by Rescue Riders LLC. Please let me know if you have any questions.
