Story
Meet Lionel, the fluffy orange kitten! Lionel came to the Shelter as a shy stray with his siblings Stripes and Spotz. A dedicated foster spent time showing them that the world is not so scary. Although they are still reserved, they have come a long way. The way to their heart is churro treats! Lionel would thrive in a cat-savvy home where he can acclimate and continue to gain confidence with his new family. An indoor only set up is required to keep him safe (as well as our local wildlife). Lionel may do well with a friendly cat-social cat that will be his bud. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Tabitha, the buff long haired kitty. Tabitha arrived at the Shelter as a stray so we don’t know much about her life before now. Staff observed that Tabitha was a little unsure upon her arrival. She settled down with time and patience but transitions are stressful for her. Adopters should be mindful of this for things like taking her home to the new home and/or to vet visits as these situations may create situations where Tabitha feels stressed. Fear free techniques during vet visits as well as a focus on decompression will be very important upon arrival to the home. Once she is comfortable, Tabitha has been social and outgoing. She is now at the front of her kennel, soliciting attention from animals and people alike. Staff have been able to pet her all over and she leans in and head butts their hands for more attention. Tabitha was spayed prior to her arrival but was very matted. Our clinic team gave her a lion cut to trim the matts off of her and keep her more comfortable. Adopters should plan on regular brushing and grooming to help keep Tabitha’s coat in tip top shape. Keeping her indoors will likely help to keep her clean. Fun fact about Tabitha – she is polydactyl! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Story
Meet Miu! This 10 month old kitty came to the Shelter with her friend Pelusa after the previous guardian’s landlord said that they could not stay in the home. Although not bonded, Miu and Pelusa would make a great pair of kitties for someone looking to adopt buddies. Miu would thrive in an indoor home that will commit to keeping her long hair brushed and clean. She may do well with other animals with a slow, thoughtful introduction. Miu`s adoption fee has been sponsored by the Bogey Fund - a fund that draws adopter`s eyes towards often overlooked black cats in the Shelter. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Story
Luke was found abandoned at a drive-in theater parking lot.  Our rescue group took him in and got him fixed and vaccinated and chipped.  He is very affectionate.  He likes to follow you around sometimes for pets.  He sometimes gets overstimulated and gives you a light nip but nothing serious.  He just lets you know when he's done.  He would be ok as an indoor/outdoor pet if it is a safe area with no busy traffic and no coyote activity.  He's really sweet.  October 23, 2024, 12:08 am
