Story
Meet Kai. He's a devoted brother with a playful spirit. Kai arrived at the start of January alongside his beloved brother, Lad, after a local grassroots rescue organization brought them into our care. From day one, these boys have been inseparable. They nap curled together, explore side by side and find comfort in one another in the sweetest ways. Because of their incredibly close bond, Kai must be adopted with Lad. Kai is a handsome medium-haired kitten with a soft, fluffy coat that will require regular brushing to keep it tangle-free and looking its best. His future adopter should be committed to routine grooming. It's not only to maintain his coat, but it's also a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your bond with him. In many ways, Kai is your classic kitten. He’s playful, curious and full of youthful energy. He enjoys chasing toys, exploring his surroundings and then settling down for a well-earned cuddle session. He will need all the typical kitten care: enrichment, playtime, scratching posts, proper nutrition, and lots of love and guidance as he grows. What makes Kai especially remarkable is his devotion to his brother. He is a steady, comforting presence for Lad and is always nearby. Their relationship is a beautiful example of feline companionship. Adopting two kittens instead of one comes with wonderful benefits. Bonded pairs: * Keep each other entertained and active. * Learn social skills from one another. * Burn off energy together. * Provide comfort and companionship when you’re not home. With Kai and Lad, you’re not just adopting kittens. You'll be welcoming a ready-made family into your home. *Due to Lad's medical diagnosis, Kai and Lad need to be adopted into a home without stairs. Kai is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, so he’s ready to begin his next chapter. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate kitten and are willing to open your heart to his equally special brother, then Kai is waiting to meet you. Come by and spend some time with this special duo. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Story
Meet Lad. He's a little wobbly and a lot wonderful. At the start of January, Lad and his brother Kai were brought to us by a local grassroots rescue organization. From the moment they arrived, it was clear that these two boys share a bond that is simply unbreakable. They sleep curled together, play together and find comfort in always being side by side. Because of this beautiful connection, Lad and Kai must be adopted together. Lad is a handsome medium-haired boy with a soft, fluffy coat that will need regular brushing to keep him tangle-free and looking his very best. Grooming time will not only help maintain his coat, it will also be a wonderful way to bond with this special little soul. You may notice a health waiver in Lad’s file. Lad has been diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). It is a neurological condition that occurs when the cerebellum (the part of the brain responsible for coordination and balance) does not fully develop. It is not contagious, not painful and not progressive. This means that it will not worsen over time. Cats with CH often have a wobbly gait, head bobbing, or occasional loss of balance. In Lad’s case, he bobs when he focuses (especially during mealtime) and may wobble when walking. However, CH does not impact a cat’s intelligence, personality, or ability to feel joy. Most importantly, it does not shorten life expectancy. With the right environment and simple accommodations, cats with CH can live full, happy, comfortable lives. To help Lad thrive, he will need: * A one-level home or apartment (he has not been exposed to stairs and we want to ensure his safety). * Carpeted flooring, as he maintains his balance much better on carpet than hardwood. * Elevated food and water dishes, since his head bobbing can make ground-level bowls challenging. * An adopter committed to regular brushing to keep his beautiful coat mat-free. Lad and Kai spent time in one of our loving foster homes, where Lad showed just how resilient and affectionate he truly is. He may wobble, but he plays, cuddles and loves just like any other kitten. His determination is inspiring and Kai is always right there, offering comfort and companionship. Lad isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for patience. He’s looking for understanding. Most of all, he’s looking for a home where his differences are embraced and where he and his brother can continue their journey together. Somewhere out there is a family where Lad’s wobble will be celebrated, Kai’s devotion will be treasured and where they can always stay together. We hope that family could be you. *Note: Our adoption consultant will discuss his health records with you in detail to make sure that any questions you may have are answered. It is important to us that you, Lad and Kai are set up for success in your life together. Story
Meet Mulligan ⛳🐾 Mulligan is a stunning medium-haired female with a story as memorable as her name. She was found as a stray lingering around a local golf course. Despite efforts to locate an owner, she was never claimed. In golf, a mulligan is a second chance or a do-over. And that’s exactly what this special girl has been given. She has a fresh start and a brighter future. One look at Mulligan and you’ll notice her charm right away. Her white paws look like she’s dressed in her finest stilettos and her extra-long whiskers are so impressive they might just stretch across our zip code. She carries herself with elegance and quiet grace. After she was safely secured, it was discovered that Mulligan needed FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery likely due to a severe old injury. The “ball” of her hip joint had become detached and surgery was needed to correct the positioning of her femur and relieve her pain. Thanks to veterinary care followed by physical therapy to rebuild strength and range of motion, Mulligan has made wonderful progress. She then spent several weeks decompressing in a loving foster home, where her personality truly began to shine. Her foster learned that Mulligan enjoys: * Playing with toy mice, paper balls and the laser * Watching birds and deer through the window * Being brushed (Regular brushing will be important to keep her beautiful coat tangle-free and is a great way to bond with her) * Listening to holiday and classical music 🎶 Mulligan is a snuggler once she trusts you, but she can be a bit skeptical of loud noises and being picked up. She may need patience around children and men, as she has shown that she tends to hide from them. A calm, understanding home that lets her build confidence at her own pace would be ideal. We are incredibly grateful to our supporters whose donations made it possible for Mulligan to receive the medical care she needed to enjoy a wonderful quality of life. Now, she’s ready for the final piece of her journey; a forever home. We would love nothing more than to see Mulligan settled into her own loving family for the holidays, so she can kick off the New Year with comfort, security and a second chance well earned. Mulligan is available by consultant to discuss her FHO surgery. Please email arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com.
