Summer was rescued in 2021. She was starved, tied up and left during a heatwave. She has been waiting nearly 4 years for her forever home. She is a female Dutch Shepherd Mix, approximately 6 years old. She loves to chew on her toys but is non-destructive in her room. She is very intelligent and knows her sit, paw and speak commands! Introducing Kai, a 7 year old female Dutch shepherd. She has lived a wonderful life and has been well cared for and socialized but her owner has come into hard times and has to make the incredibly hard decision to find her a new home. He loves her so much and knows she deserves the world that he can’t provide. Please no rude comments, he is heartbroken. Kai is an incredibly intelligent dog. She absolutely adores people. She is 7 years old but she is still ready for adventures. Kai will need a family that will provide daily exercise and then a couch to sleep on! Kai is good with other dogs, especially male dogs. She has also been around cats and was great with them. Kai has been professionally trained and is housetrained. Kai is located in Huntsville AL. This sweet boy is on the smaller side for a German Shepherd. Jett’s brindle coloring lead us to believe he might have some Dutch ancestry in his lineage. Since joining our foster program, Jett enjoys spending time outside in the grass with his foster family watching the world go. When that gets a little too boring he is excited to take the show on the road and go for a nice long walk. He has quickly settled into his foster home. When meeting new people, Jett is inquisitive and approaches with a mix of curiosity and enthusiasm. When meeting other dogs, Jett takes a low-key approach. He is happy to make their acquaintance but is not looking to get too rowdy. He loves attention and especially ear rubs. Jett was originally found as a stray in Essex County prior to coming into our foster program. Jet loves to play and has become good friends with Jewel. AL is only 8-9 months old Dutch shepherd mix puppy who should be learning about the world through positive experiences, guidance, and safety. Instead, he is growing up in a shelter environment that is loud, chaotic, and overwhelming and scary, which is having a profound impact on how he presents. At the shelter he is missing out on the essential socialization, consistent training and reassurance that puppies need to grow into confident adults. AL is smart, sensitive, and cautious around strangers. In the shelter, he can appear barky or unsure at first—especially around new people—but when approached slowly and respectfully, he allows handling and begins to relax. Once he feels safe, he leans in for affection, enjoys touch, and clearly wants connection. AL currently feels more comfortable with women than men, which is not uncommon in young dogs and may reflect limited or negative past experiences before arriving at the shelter. With patience and positive reinforcement, this is something that can absolutely improve over time.
