Story
Hello, we have had Sunnie since 3months old. She is very mature and smart. She loves to have some attention and then she can do her own thing. She loves walks and runs. She is still learning heel but knows over 8 commands. Sit, lay, roll over, play dead (by saying bang bang) come, leave it, drop it, and fetch. She has many very great qualities and needs a good backyard to play in. She tears up most beds unless it's very comfortable. We are possibly moving and have 2 other dogs as well. We don't have room for all 3 unfortunately. We love them all and want them all and have never done this before. We are conflicted about this, we feel it may be the best way for her happiness and are sad. But can answer any questions you have.

Story
We adopted Ella in December and fell in love with her sweet soul instantly! She is so sweet and funny and clumsy! Unfortunately, I was offered a new job in February and as hard as I've tried to make it work, this new schedule change is just a little too much for ella. She needs to be in a home that has a little more flexibility and time for her. She is so sweet and amazing, we are so sad to have to make this decision but in the end, Ella deserves more than we can provide for her at this time. Ella loves to cuddle and will full on HUG you, she has small dog syndrome HA. Ella is quiet but will "talk" to you sometimes and it's hilarious! She's goofy and clumsy, playful when you want to play and lazy when you want to be lazy. Shes GREAT with kids! She's "iffy" with cats, we have an indoor cat and she's very curious from afar. She's very smart and very teachable. Aside from all the personality quirks, she is thee most beautiful dog ❤️ her colors and coat and ears....everything, so pretty!

Super smart girl Jean is here. I know the commands "sit", "shake", "down". And I'm willing to learn more. Will you be the one to teach me?! I had a rough start in my life, but recovered quickly and kept my sweet personality. I would prefer to be the only dog in your household. Let's be friends! Interested in adopting? Story
Sweet senior Dahlia is pleased to introduce herself. I'm a chill lady that is ready to lay on someone's couch or a dog bed if you don't want me to be on the furniture. I can be shy at first, but warm up quickly, especially if you have tasty treats with you. The shelter's staff introduced me to two dogs. And I was neutral to them. Let us know if you have a dog at home, and you want to introduce us to each other. Interested in adopting? Visit our shelter during open hours and ask about Dahlia A052310. May 5, 2024, 8:24 pm

Cri-kee is a 90 pound dog who is 6 years old. He loves the great outdoors and going for sniffy walks! His previous owner said he was house trained and would hold his bladder until he went outside. He also enjoys car rides and playing in water.I don't have a history with dogs, so I may need slow introductions to new dogs.I don't have a history with cats. I may do well with them with a slow introduction.I don't have a history with children. I could do well with them; bring your kids down to see if we'll be best friends! If you are interested in this specific animal, please come to the shelter for walk-in adoptions Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30am to 5:30pm. We recommend coming in as early as possible, as adoptions are first-come, first-served

*** Courtesy Listing *** Delilah is a very loyal 5 year old spayed female German Shepherd.  She has received extensive training over the past 4 years of ownership by experts experience with the breed.  Delilah has shown some reactivity to other dogs, but through training and continuous socialization, the issues have dramatically been reduced.  She is current on all her shots and is house and crate trained. Delilah loves people, loyal, and knows basic commands such as sit, down, place, and here.  The is leash and ecollar trained.  In the evening, Delilah sleeps quietly in her crate at night.  She plays well with toys and loves to go on walks. Her ideal owner should be experienced with German Shepherds.  Delilah would be best situated in a one dog household. Adoption Event Schedule Events run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM every month at these locations: 2nd Saturday, Sacramento - Pet Food Express 3rd Saturday, Modesto - PetSmart 4th Saturday, Roseville - Pet Food Express Please visit the GCGSR Rescue Page for specific address information. FospiceAdoption Fee: $100.00 Darlin is a sweet, black & red long-haired female shepherd. She is a lovely companion and aims to be with her people and checks in on all the members of her foster family. She enjoys car rides, road trips, and short walks. Darlin needs a home that enjoys her company and affection and that reliably give her daily medication. This lovely girl enjoys being inside and is well suited to the work-at-home lifestyle. She uses dog doors to enter the house from the yard, and is learning to use them to go outside. Because she doesn't want to miss out on anything going on indoors, she needs her person to periodically take her out to relieve. She is overall house clean and well-mannered indoors, and her foster family is able to leave her with access to the house unsupervised. If she does need to go out, she walks in circles to signal. Originally a stray, her estimated age was 6 years, although she is now feeling better and acting younger. Darlin is well-managed on medication for her thyroid and arthritis and had images taken at the vet that showed moderate hip dysplasia, arthritis, and spondylosis. She wags her tail when she greets people, even though a closer look shows that it is broken. She may do better in a household without many stairs required for daily use. She can climb two steps in her foster home and a flight on a road trip, and would do well with an environment that is easy to navigate. She can independently climb into a small car and climb up to sit in the back seat, and cooperates and helps when being loaded into a larger vehicle. To help clear skin issues, for now she is on medication, a prescription diet, and was recently professionally groomed and had her coat trimmed to its current short length. Note the attached photos show how she appears before and after grooming. She is becoming more active and fit, and although she weighs in at 93 lbs., her weight loss journey may show that she is closer to a 75-80 lbs. dog. She gets along with a well-behaved older male shepherd in her foster home and at another volunteer's home. She can manage to walk well in a group of shepherds, and can also be grumbly around puppies and animated, unpredictable dogs. A small verbal correction or slight tug on the leash helps her settle if she alert barks when meeting new people, new animals, and unusual things in her environment. She has lived with cats and young children from the age of 7 to 10 years. Unlike some shepherds, she is a fairly low activity dog that only needs short daily walks and that can be managed with a pleasant voice and flat collar. If you are looking for a sweet companion, Darlin could be your girl. This is a Level 2 Dog. Added April 2021 Understanding Dog Levels Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Adoption Event Schedule Events run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM every month at these locations: 2nd Saturday, Sacramento - Pet Food Express 3rd Saturday, Modesto - PetSmart 4th Saturday, Roseville - Pet Food Express Please visit the GCGSR Rescue Page for specific address information. Adoption Fee:  $300.00 Theo is a charming approximately fourteen month-old German Shepherd mix, happy, goofy, and very affectionate, who came to us from a shelter as an unclaimed stray. He is house-trained and crate trained, usually putting himself to bed around 8:30 or 9, and resting quietly until his foster gets up.  He is very enthusiastic about walks, though is a ways from “heel” yet. He eagerly jumps into the car for rides, and rides well with no carsickness. He settles nicely in the house, provided he has had some play time and a walk. Theo loves people and attention, though is shy if someone reaches for him too quickly.  Once comfortable, he wants to engage, loves pats, and follows his person around.  He has met and done well with people of all ages including children. He's getting better about it, but still gets a little mouthy when excited, so might not be best for a home with small children. Theo sits for meals, having the leash put on, going through the door, and whenever else required. He takes treats extremely gently and carefully. He waits for approval to eat, and would rather be with his person than eat, so eats best if his person remains near while he eats. Chewing at this age is to be expected. He has been really good about selecting appropriate chew toys, but has a weakness for socks, and will relocate shoes left on the floor.  He loves squeaky toys! Theo has excellent hearing and a great alarm bark when the doorbell rings or someone comes up the walkway. Once his foster responds to the bark by checking the situation, Theo stops barking and will welcome visitors. He does fine in the backyard when his foster is away. Theo has good energy typical for his age, loves to play rough-and-tumble with other dogs, and will generally try to play with almost every dog he meets. In his foster home with one elderly and one middle-aged female shepherd, he accepts the elderly one’s warnings to leave her alone, but badgers the middle-aged one until she plays. He is very competitive for attention, and is calmest when he is the only dog. He might do well as an only dog who has frequent, regular play dates with other playful dogs. Theo has not learned to not chase the resident cat, but seems to just want to play, not harm. There is another side to Theo, which is a scared little boy. He was found running stray with his brother, a more confident dog who was quickly adopted from the shelter. Theo couldn’t ‘find his brave’ at the shelter, and so rescue was needed. He blossomed in a safe, calm and fair home environment. His adopter will need to be slow and patient as Theo settles in, and calm with corrections. Despite his love of walks, he still sometimes submissive urinates when the leash is put on, so it’s best to do that outdoors. Similarly, when he gets frightened, he will sometimes submissive pee. Theo is looking for that very special home that can both enjoy his exuberant youthful personality when he is happy, and be patient, gentle, and calm about corrections or new or scary situations. He will be a fun, intensely loving, and obedient life-long companion in such a home. Cats and small critters unknown. Adoption Fee:  $300 Lolacola is an unclaimed stray from the shelter, estimated to be 4 years old. Animal control picked her up after she showed up in friendly in someone’s yard, but no owners claimed her during two months in the shelter, during which time she became a favorite of staff.  Her medium-full size frame carries this very handsome girl’s 75 - 80 pounds just right. Lolacola is a tail wagger, happy, and very friendly with people after just a hint of initial shyness. She soaks up attention and pats when they are available, but rests quietly and contentedly when her foster is busy.  Her calm, cheerful disposition is a pleasure to be around. She has not been exposed to any children. She doesn’t seem to have much training, but has innately nice manners, making her an easy and fun girl to have around. She is fully housetrained. She walks calmly on the leash though doesn’t seem to understand “straight line forward” yet, and doesn’t pull at all unless there is a running squirrel near.  New noises cause her a little mild hesitation, such as bouncing basketballs at the park’s court, but she is getting used to these and other noises.  She is learning to go into the crate at bedtime without a fuss though this was not her first choice. She sleeps quietly through the night until released in the morning. With other dogs she is casually confident, and gets along well. She does well with the resident elderly female shepherd, and meets dogs encountered in walks at the park or other homes well. She verbally corrects the 10-month-old male foster puppy in the home when he gets too annoying, but keeps it appropriate and is otherwise patient and harmonious with him (and hey, we’re all correcting the busy young goofball). Lolacola does have some possessiveness around dog bones and toys, but does not physically engage over it.   We haven’t heard Lolacola bark yet, despite the yappy little dogs at the fence. At this point it seems very unlikely that she would be a nuisance barker.   Lolacola seems very food motivated, and will walk backwards in front of you clear across the room if she thinks there is a treat in your hand. She is immediately present when the refrigerator is opened, or her foster goes near the kitchen counter or dog food containers. She has a good appetite, and hasn’t learned to sit and wait yet, instead dancing as the food bowl is set down. She closely watches her foster human eating, but does not pester or grab.   She and the resident cat are in a stand-off truce. They were initially ignoring each other, and he was comfortable walking past her. Everything appeared great until one day she grabbed him in her mouth, and he’s had nothing but mean things to say to her since. It appears that she could learn to live with cats, but caution would need to be exercised.  In general, Lolacola is a delightful, easy dog who will fit in well, be a pleasure to have around, and keep her family smiling.  Cats and small critters unknown.
