Story
Meet Darla – 3-Year-Old Sweetheart Looking for Her Forever Home Sweet Darla has been through a lot, but her gentle heart still shines. She was recently returned by her last family, who sadly let her ear infection go untreated — now she’s battling a painful infection that will need medical care. Even through all of this, Darla remains as loving and resilient as ever. When Darla first came to the shelter, she was terrified of the world. But once she experienced the comfort of a home, her true personality bloomed! She became a loyal, affectionate, people-pleasing girl who just wants to do everything right. She’s already potty trained, learned to use the doggy door, and sleeps peacefully in her crate at night.Darla is a smart cookie who picks up new commands quickly and thrives on treats and praise. She wants nothing more than to be your “good girl.” If she ever senses she’s done something wrong, she’ll roll over for belly rubs and forgiveness — her sweetness is endless. Her favorite thing in the world? Cuddling on the couch and soaking up love. While she’s still learning how to navigate new experiences and meet new people or dogs, with slow, gentle introductions she warms up beautifully — and once she does, she’s all kisses and playtime!Darla deserves a loving family who will help her heal and finally give her the care she’s always needed. Could that be you?

Story
Meet Pretzel — a curious, thoughtful explorer who’s looking for a calm, understanding home Pretzel enjoyed a Doggie Day Out that gave us great insight into who he is and what he needs to thrive. While he wasn’t around kids during his outing, he was friendly with people, though more interested in the world around him than constant attention. Pretzel loves to sniff and explore and would likely enjoy an active outlet like long walks or even jogging with the right person. On leash, Pretzel walked nicely without pulling, happily stopping for plenty of sniff breaks. He did well being lifted into the car, was calm and quiet during car rides, and enjoyed looking out the window. He also handled a coffee shop visit beautifully, staying relaxed and well behaved in a calm, animal free environment. Even seeing large ducks didn’t faze him at all.Pretzel knows “sit,” takes treats gently, and can be a bit selective about snacks, so finding his favorite high value reward will be key. He stayed relaxed while walking through Southside Park, Tupi Coffee, R Street, and a small shopping area, remaining calm and easygoing throughout.Where Pretzel struggles is around other dogs. He is very focused and reactive when he sees them, pulling, whining, and vocalizing. While he did not show signs of aggression, he became too overwhelmed to be redirected with the treats available and was especially overstimulated in a busy pet store with many dogs. Because of this, Pretzel would do best in a home that can help him decompress, limit overstimulating environments, and work on dog reactivity at a comfortable pace. After some time off leash in a backyard, Pretzel stayed close, sniffed near his people, and didn’t wander far — showing that he finds comfort in being nearby. After a couple of hours out, he seemed tired but not fully able to relax, suggesting he may really benefit from time in a home where he can truly settle and unwind.Pretzel is a good dog who tries his best and would likely thrive with a patient adopter or foster who understands reactivity, enjoys quieter adventures, and can help him build confidence over time.If you’re looking for a loyal walking companion who appreciates sniffy strolls, calm environments, and a soft place to land, Pretzel could be a wonderful match

Story
Hello! My ex-wife and I adopted Brisket from Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento when she was under a year old. She's 5 now and the shelter believes she's a Dutch Shepherd mix. She's fully house-trained, has never had an accident, and doesn’t destroy anything except her toys. Brisket is generally good with people but can get anxious in loud environments (parties, live music, construction) and has nipped at someone before. She barks at outside noises or deliveries with a deep bark, but stops after a few seconds. At home, she’s okay with other dogs as long as they don’t bother her; if they do, she’ll growl or slap them. She also has some leash aggression when approaching other dogs during walks. Brisket is very loving but has always been a bit fearful, though she’s improved over time. She’d likely do best in a calm home with someone who enjoys playing and cuddling.

Story
Roxy is a loving dog alway in need of a belly rub. She is also a very anxious dog and doesn’t do well around strangers. We are rehoming her due to living in apartments and her not being friendly to strangers. She is in need of a loving home where there is not too much stimuli. I’m sure she can be trained me and my daughter just don’t have the knowledge to do so. She would fit well into a home with someone who specializes in dogs if her breed and can train her to be less anxious.

Story
Roxy is a loving, loyal dog who has been part of our family for the past four years. She is very affectionate and especially enjoys belly rubs. Roxy has always been protective of our children and does well with people she is properly introduced to inside our home. She does experience anxiety around unfamiliar people, particularly outside of our home environment. We live in an apartment complex, and there was a recent incident involving a neighbor in which Roxy bit his arm, barely breaking the skin. Although the injury was minor, we take the situation seriously. Due to our living situation, we are unfortunately no longer able to keep her and must rehome her. We are seeking an experienced owner or trainer who understands anxious or reactive dogs and can provide the structure and training she needs. Roxy is house-trained, very intelligent, and well-behaved in the home. She has caused no damage to our apartment or property and is truly a good dog in the right environment.
