Story
Hello I am Rosie! I really love chasing balls and playing with toys. Do you want to play with me? Are you looking for a running companion? Look no further-I'm your dog! I would prefer to live in a house without children under the age of 10. I would benefit from training classes and the folks at The SPCA have given me a great head start!I graduated from The SPCA's highly regarded Ruff Start Program which pairs shelter dogs in need of extra care or attention with inmates at Salinas Valley State Prison for training and love. Story
Looks like: German Shepherd Female, 9 years old (estimated), 76 pounds Here's a profile in courage: sweet and affectionate Rosa. She came to us after having walked many a rough road with weak hind legs, a painful mouth, and abdominal masses. Two operations later, she's feeling much better and healing beautifully. But has any of the strife she's faced dampened her spirit? Not all all! She's a snuggle bug through and through. Rosa loves to cuddle up and be close to her people; if you stop petting she might remind you to resume by giving you a gentle tap with her paw. Having been malnourished, she appreciates every meal and sometimes forgets that she doesn't need to counter surf anymore. Good on a leash, great in a car, house-broken, and non-reactive around other dogs, Rosa has good manners, but might benefit from a bit more training. Rosa has done well around calm children, but we think she'd do best in a household with no other pets and lots of human hands who'd be happy to reciprocate her love. She prefers to be with her people most of the time. This senior girl came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after being found as a stray.

Story
Looks like: German Shepherd Mix Male, 7 years old (estimated), 74 pounds Ripley is ready to play ball! This handsome senior boy still has lots of energy and his job is "ball." Although his lumps and bumps and bad coat show that he has not had an easy life, Ripley is an easy-going guy who gets along with dogs of all sizes. This gorgeous guy hasn't been socialized for much of his life, so he can be a bit overly excited when seeing new friends and can't wait to meet them! He's working on some training regarding this and will need to continue working on it in his next home. Although dog friends and human friends are great, this guy lives for his ball time and is always ready for a game of fetch. Ripley was found as a stray and taken to Hitchcock Road Animal Services.

Story
Franco is such a sweet and loving puppy! This 4 month old boy is going to grow quite a bit more, but is currently 38 pounds. He has a gentle disposition and loves to play too! Franco is awesome with other dogs and loves to play chase. Franco is ready to be your new best friend. Come and meet him in person during our adoption hours Tues-Sat from 1-4pm.Franco had a field trip with one of our volunteers and this is what she had to say about Franco:`I had such a great time with Franco today, and there were so many people who wanted to pet him. He was so well behaved for a young pup. He is cautious in new surroundings, but doesn`t pull or bolt even with loud noises that concerned him. He would just stop and look around, then we would move on. He loves people and other dogs. He was most animated and happy when he met a female yellow lab who I was told also loved other dogs. We let them get to know each other, and then Franco wanted to play, which we didn`t allow because of the possibility of tangled leashes. When I brought him back to the shelter, we played ball in the outside yard which he loved. He allowed me to take the ball out of his mouth without growling which is a great sign. When the garbage truck came, he didn`t bark but he ran back and sat at my side. I honestly couldn`t tell if he was guarding me or he wanted me to guard him, but it was adorable.`

Good with dogs, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Beautiful, gentle, sweet, shy German shepherd. Shotzy is about 4 years old and gets along with other large friendly dogs. She takes time to warm up to people and other dogs but once she does she loves interacting and loves to be petted. She is crate trained and house trained. We have had her since she was a puppy and bought her from a local breeder near White Hills, Arizona. She's active and uses a large yard to run and play in with another large dog. Unfortunately we need to rehome her due to owner health issues and we can no longer care for her and our other dogs. We are heart broken but need to do what's best for our family. She would do well with another friendly outgoing dog since she is shy or well with an experienced dog owner who has experience working with shy dogs.

Story
In the Spring of 2022, Heidi found herself on the intake list at the Stanislaus County Shelter picked up as a stray. Little did she know this was the beginning of an amazing journey to a second chance in life. Heidi was scared, hungry, and confused, but her sweet demeanor shone through and she passed her behavioral evaluation with flying colors. Poor, sweet Heidi was extremely underweight, suffering from GI issues, and had kennel cough. A few months later GSRNC answered her rescue plea and within 2 months of being fostered, this lucky girl had a new home. Her adopters fell for Heidi because she was super affectionate, playful, and non-destructive. They learned she was a little cautious with strangers at first but that didn’t last very long! Her extreme intelligence coupled with a love for treats made training lots of fun for the whole family. All the boxes were checked! As they got to know Heidi, the new adopters discovered that she had a high prey drive and could be dog-reactive. Anything small and furry was fair game (excuse the pun). This was a deal-breaker for her new mom and dad who decided to return her to GSRNC. No problem – resilient and charming Heidi was quickly scooped up by another incredible foster! Now 6 years old and 75 lbs., Heidi has settled in nicely with her new foster family. They love that this beautiful girl wants nothing more than to share love and affection with them. They are thrilled she has exceptional manners and lives to please. Heidi has learned to trust and now greets people of all ages with a gentle, yet enthusiastic reception. When asked what is so appealing about Heidi, her fosters say “she is just so snuggly!” Proud Heidi wants you to see all the boxes she checks now! I love: * Taking walks (she says this is a must) * Going on car rides especially if it includes new adventures * Showing off my good manners * Chasing squirrels and cats, it is just too much fun! I am: * House-broken * Crate-trained * Not a puller and walk nicely on a leash * Still a little reactive to dogs but am easily redirected * Possibly amenable to a sibling but honestly, I would love being an only dog! Heidi is a level 3 dog living in the South Bay who wants nothing more than to become the newest member of your active family. April 16, 2024, 4:00 pm
