Story
Meet Pluto. He's a German Shepherd that is a loyal adventure companion, a fetch enthusiast, and a firm believer that small dogs are...suspicious. Not evil, just suspicious. Possibly undercover squirrels. Pluto will accompany you literally everywhere. Going to the kitchen? He's in. Taking out the trash? He's ready. Quick trip to the gas station? He's calling shotgun. If you move, he assumes it's a team activity. Pluto prefers his canine peers large, confident, and not shaped like animated squeaky toys. Tiny dogs tend to activate his internal `what is that and why is it vibrating?` alarm system. He's not interested in drama, he simply requests roommates who are his size. He bonds deeply and loves hardThrives on structure and activityWill play fetch until your throwing arm files a complaintChecks in with you like a furry project managerHe's happiest when he has a job (fetch counts) an active lifestyle, clear boundaries, a human or family who appreciates a 70 pound devoted shadow.March 7, 2026, 4:07 pm

Story
Notes from a volunteer on Osiris:Iâ&#194&#128&#194&#153 going to try and be unbiased here with my thoughts and observations....Some background: Iâ&#194&#128&#194&#153 a volunteer at the animal shelter here in Meyers and over the past few months, I have probably spent 35+ hours with Osiris. He very quickly became a favorite. When I learned he was a fence jumper and couldn't â&#194&#128&#194&#156justâ&#194&#128&#194&#157 be let out in the yard to play and get some time out of his enclosure, I started showing up right before lunch so that I could take Osiris for an hour+ long walk. We started on the normal 5 foot leash and I ultimately extended that with another leash. This past week I have had him on a 50â&#194&#128&#194&#153 lead on all our walks. Our walks have ranged from 2 miles in the beginning to 7 miles more recently. Weâ&#194&#128&#194&#153 ve been on trails, paved roads, at the beach, at parks, even at a bar patio.Osiris is incredibly smart. He is great with commands. He will come at a whistle. He is intelligent enough to â&#194&#128&#194&#156unwindâ&#194&#128&#194&#157 himself when heâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s leash-tangled. He is alert, engaging, goofy and lovable. He will play bow, get the zoomies, romp through the snow, wade into the water, chew on sticks and frankly behaves like an ideal companion. He loves to hang his head out the window of a moving car, does seem used to sitting in the front seat (but I didnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t allow that) and also loves to just hang out and sleep in the sun, or anywhere nearby.I have seen him drop down and give up his belly for rubs on multiple occasions and with total strangers. One time on the patio of a local restaurant/bar and another while out on a trail. He loves his belly rubs.I have seen him around small children, sledding and screaming, and he was engaging and licked their faces. Clearly, people arenâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t the issue! I have never seen Osiris have any issues with anyone. As for other dogs, I have seen Osiris interact positively with dogs on and off leash. Within the last two weeks Osiris interacted positively with another shelter dog that was recently adopted. I unknowingly bumped into them while I had him out on a walk and they did great. I can recall at least 7 interactions with other dogs that were not on a leash, while he was, and they were all positive. Just this week, there was a 12 yr old dog that Osiris engaged with where the other dog wasnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t on a leash. The two dogs said their dog hellos and romped a little and when the sr dog had enough, he gruffed at Osiris and Osiris backed off. No issue at all. I filed that away because it is really good to see the respect he showed the other dog. And, until very recently, I would say that he has interacted well with dogs of all sizes. He seems to be getting very kennel stressed and frustrated as most intelligent working dog's do when they are housed in kennel's in stressful shelter environments. One time recently, there was a female whippet in a pink coat and while I was wondering if he would see her as prey, he had no issues with her at all. 'However, he may have a dislike for puppies as some dogs do.'I have also seen his prey drive. He has gone bonkers over squirrels. But, when he was at the end of the leash, he didnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153 t pull harder, or even make me struggle. I called him back with a treat and we moved on. He did alert to the presence of chickens when we were on a walk. There is a house on one of our loops and one morning you could hear the chickens clucking away. He was incredibly interested, gazing intently towards the house and the sounds. He didn't pull me that direction, but he was definitely very aware. (He has killed chickens in the past so he is not to be homed with chickens). He will chase birds when he see a flicker or other bird in the forest. Nor have I seen him fixate on the cats at the shelter when he is in the lobby, which one might expect. (Due to his prey drive with chickens it is not recommended that he lives with cats) Although, honestly, I think he is just so smart that he understands they are behind a wall and thus, he isnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t interested. I have three cats and I did bring him to my house, to a room where the cats often hang out, but werenâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t there when Osiris came. He came into that space, modestly sniffed about and that was it. There wasnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153 t any significant interest - not event in their cat hammock where they regularly sleep and hang out. He just wasn't that interested. If you are interested in adopting Osiris please come to the shelter for a meet and greet and see for yourself what an amazing dog Osiris is. March 7, 2026, 4:07 pm

The scars on her body are thought to be from this time in her life. Because of these experiences, Daphne does not do well with Pitbull type dogs. She also does not do well with female dogs, and prefers a home where she wonâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t be asked to navigate stressful dog relationships.Dog-to-Dog HistoryDaphne previously lived harmoniously for several years with a male German Shepherd mix, whom she was described as being best friends with. She shared toys, food bowls, and space without issue. On walks, she may show mild reactivity toward certain dogs but is easily redirected. Story
Hi there 'm Bowie a 11 month old GSD/pitbull/Australian Shepherd mix.  I'm what you would call a high energy dog.   As a pup, I didn't get the training and boundaries needed for an energetic dog like myself and that's what ended me in the shelter.  I am a very sweet guy with tons of potential.  I would love to do agility, rally or just be your best running/hiking partner.  I'm good with the other dogs I've met but I am so eager to meet them I need to calm down first, which I am working on at the rescue.  I would be best with a family with kids 10-12 or older due to my dynamic personality as I can quickly get excited. For now, I can walk well on a loose leash and have my first pack walk under my belt.  I know Sit, working on Place and Down.  I love to play with toys with my humans.  And I love to play/chase with other dogs.  If you're looking for a spirited sweetheart who really just wants to be with people then I'm the guy for you. I travel well, love the water and I'm looking for a foster or adopter who can keep up with me.  Are you up for the challenge? I am current on vaccines,  neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped and just waiting my next adventure.  Are you ready to accept the challenge??? Minimum adoption donation: $400.00 More to come on me as I settle in.   Please visit our website at www.edcgsr.com to fill out an application for this dog. ##2504080##

Story
I'm Ellie, a vivacious, 8 year old, strawberry blond German Shepherd/ Eskimno Dog mix weighing around 53 pounds. I am a  very happy, loving girl, who craves human companionship!  I am  very energetic, vocal, and animated (think puppy); everything’s exciting!  I do well with low-energy respectful dogs with slow proper introductions and with my 4 foster dogs both male and female.  I do have a prey drive so cats, squirrels, and lizards beware!  I love  going on walks, learning how to walk nicely on leash, and I have  done well on pack walks with 30+ German Shepherds through downtown Sacramento and Placerville. I need  a patient adopter, preferably one who stays at home who will take the time to acclimate me to  new people and to my new forever home.   A calm household with children 18 years old and up who will keep her energy level down is needed...so anything to get that energy out…hikes, walks, runs…a tired dog is a happy dog!   My forever family should have American Eskimo Dog, Chow, or German Shepherd experience.    I know  sit, down, place, come when called and “wait” at a door. I am  spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.   Could this little cutey be the missing piece in your life? Minimum adoption donation: $350.00 *German Shepherd 52%, American Eskimo Dog 17%, Alaskan Malamute 17%, Siberian Husky 7%, Chow 7% Minimum adoption donation:$350.00  Please visit our website at www.edcgsr.com to fill out an application for this dog.                                        ##1252858##
