Story
Handsome can't even begin to describe Baxter. This fun loving 61lb shepherd mix found himself homeless after being picked up as a stray in rural Oklahoma. The wonderful staff at the shelter cared for and found him a rescue ❤️. Baxter made his way to Missouri and has been "All Smiles" since. He's proven to be dog & kid friendly, his foster mom has a cat, so far, Baxter is just curious. We are guessing his age at around 18 months. He kept his area clean at the shelter and his foster mom said he's only had a couple of accidents in his new environment. Baxter loves to romp and play, he would love to have a playmate and a nice place to run. https://airtable.com/shrSbfFkCdeRMtZw2?fbclid=IwAR2Q_R2qh2bk6pwcDPnrL8722wGTJORafSAWJObVLvz0g6ASJOFxLIdvsRw

Story
It’s Heidi! This gorgeous girl is a four-year-old breeder release. She has made amazing progress in her foster family. She is attaching strongly and, for her sake, it would be best that she attach to her furever family. Heidi needs a patient, understanding family who will continue to show her that people are good and trustworthy and kind and predictable— and aren’t going to put her back into a crate. Although growing in confidence daily, Heidi is still cautious around new people and needs a family who will give her the time she needs to trust them—not one who wants an immediate adventure buddy. Heidi would do best in a home with another (playful) dog. She is great with other dogs and cats. She is housebroken and walks well on a leash. She is a smart, gentle, playful girl who will bring so much joy to a family! https://airtable.com/shrSbfFkCdeRMtZw2?fbclid=IwAR2Q_R2qh2bk6pwcDPnrL8722wGTJORafSAWJObVLvz0g6ASJOFxLIdvsRw

Liv. Here’s what I know about her so far—it’s all good! She's super kid and dog friendly, playful and active, always up for some fun! She loves to snuggle and is just the sweetest little thing. Her petite size makes her even more adorable, and she's so easy-going. Plus, she's brave and not shy at all. Liv is doing really well! She’d do wonderfully in an active home, especially one with another dog. She’s ready to learn her basics, manners, and share lots of love. She’s been having a great time playing with the other dogs here, respecting their boundaries, which is fantastic. If you're interested in meeting her, please visit www.nttsars.com and fill out an application. December 12, 2025, 12:27 am

Story
Have you ever started something new and found yourself totally out of your depth? Moved to a new country where you didn't know the language? Started a new job that was so totally and completely different from your old one that you hardly knew which way was up? For me, it was coming to the shelter after being a stray in Cadet, possibly for a long time. When I got here, they gave me a name: Chickie. They estimated that I was about a year old. I had been running with two other dogs, whom they guess may be my sister and mom. Thing is, being in a situation like that is daunting. You don't have anything familiar to hang onto. But luckily... I just so happen to be really brave and sweet. What can I say? I'm awesome. As it turns out, people can be really nice! Hey, have you guys ever had your ears scratched? It's amazing. And sometimes, they put a leash on you (that's a little weird) and then you get to walk around together and sniff stuff. That's amazing. I'm curious about toys, but not exactly sure what to do with them. Oh, and the stuff they give you to eat? Oh MAN. It's the BEST! I do suspect that I've still got a lot to learn about this whole "pet dog life" thing, but hey... I'm more than willing to put in the effort if you are! In the shelter, I seem interested in making friends with the other dogs in their kennels and, of course, I was friends with the dogs I came in with, but I haven't had an official dog playdate. I'd love to meet any potential dog siblings in any potential new family before making it official! Overall, I'm gentle and curious, but you can sometimes still see that I'm unsure when something is really new or weird or daunting or moves too fast. And going from being a shelter dog to a beloved part of a family will also be an adjustment! But I'm ready. I can hardly wait. If interested please fill out a preliminary at odas.org/canine and someone will contact you to schedule your visit.
