Story
There’s a bear at the Pet Adoption Center… Okay okay—not that kind of bear. But Bear the dog might have you doing a double take.At 5 years old and 90 pounds, he’s got that big, solid, “did that just move?” presence—but once you get closer, you realize he’s really just a soft-hearted guy who never got the chance to just be a dog. Bear came from a hoarding situation and likely spent most of his life in a kennel… so now he’s learning everything for the first time. And honestly? He’s doing pretty great. He’s like a giant teddy bear who lives for booty scratches, takes treats gently, and proudly shows off his sit, paw, and down. On leash, he pulls a bit—but it’s more “wow the world is BIG” than anything else. He’s met Quinn and Trixie and showed us he’s not dog aggressive—just a little dominant and… let’s call it enthusiastic in his play style . And his tail? It comes with a warning label—this thing HURTS when it hits you A full-speed wag from Bear is basically a love tap with force.Bear is looking for patient people—ones who understand that he’s basically starting life over and needs time, guidance, and a whole lot of love.So yes… there’s a bear at the Pet Adoption Center. Not the kind you find in the woods—but the kind who’s been hibernating his whole life, just waiting for the right season to begin. He’s like a big story that was never fully written—just waiting for someone patient enough to turn the page slowly, gently, and let him become the dog he was always meant to be.

Story
KARL 5 years old • German Shepherd mix • Looking for rescue/adopter experienced with shepherdsKarl is the kind of dog who doesn’t give his trust away immediately… but once you earn it, you’ll see the goofy, curious, loyal boy hiding underneath all the stress. This handsome shepherd mix came to the shelter in rough shape with painful skin issues and ear infections that are finally beginning to heal. Unfortunately, the shelter environment has been incredibly hard on him. The noise, constant activity, and lack of stability make Karl anxious and selective with new people. But outside of the kennel? That’s where the real Karl starts to appear. Karl loves walks where he can sniff and explore the world around him. He enjoys enrichment toys, chasing after balls, lounging in the yard, and spending time with people he trusts. Once comfortable, he becomes affectionate, playful, and eager to connect. He has been working closely with staff and trainers who describe him as a “happy-go-lucky boy” once he settles in. He allows handling well with familiar people, takes treats gently, and has even started learning basic obedience skills using positive reinforcement.Karl would thrive with: * A fenced yard* Shepherd-savvy humans* Structure, patience, and routine* Children over 10* Slow introductions to dogs* Continued confidence building and positive trainingHe is currently still receiving treatment for his skin and cannot yet be neutered because he is on steroids.Karl is not looking for a perfect home. He’s looking for someone willing to understand that stressed dogs can still be very good dogs.He just needs someone willing to see past the kennel walls.

Story
Hawkeye & Remi – Bonded Seniors with Big HeartsHawkeye – 10-year-old Black Lab MixHawkeye is a gentle senior who enjoys the simple things in life—sunshine, fresh air, and a good shady spot to settle down after making sure the yard is safe and secure. He takes his “security patrol” duties seriously, then happily retires to relax and enjoy his day.Hawkeye is house trained on a schedule of about 6–7 hours and currently benefits from a midday let-out to comfortably do his business. He requires a fenced yard, as this is where he prefers to potty and spend time exploring at his own pace.He does well on a leash and is continuing to improve with short morning or evening walks, which also help manage his arthritis. His arthritis is supported with a Cosequin supplement, and he should wear a harness instead of a collar due to laryngeal paralysis, which can be aggravated by heat or pressure on the neck. Because of this, mid-afternoon heat is avoided for activity.Hawkeye is social and gets along well with other dogs. He also showed no adverse reaction when meeting a cat at the veterinary clinic.Remi – 8-year-old Border Collie MixRemi is the more active of the pair and a classic border collie at heart—intelligent, observant, and always keeping an eye on the world around him. He enjoys running in a fenced yard and making sure everything in the neighborhood is running “on schedule.”He is affectionate and loves spending time with his people, often resting his head in your lap while you relax in the evening. Remi enjoys companionship and attention just as much as activity. He does well with other dogs, though he has not officially been tested with cats—based on his temperament, there are no immediate concerns, but this is not confirmed. Remi is also learning leash skills and enjoys 2–3 short walks daily. He does best when crated in the morning, as he can occasionally have accidents if left loose during that time.TogetherHawkeye and Remi are a sweet, bonded-feeling pair who enjoy each other’s company and bring out the best in one another. They balance each other beautifully—Hawkeye’s calm, easygoing nature pairs perfectly with Remi’s playful curiosity and intelligence. They are both loving dogs who enjoy companionship, routine, and a safe space to relax and just be themselves.

Meet Bebe Looking for a gentle, shy, and oh-so-sweet pup to love? Bebe is your girl! This German Shepherd/Pitty mix has the perfect blend of brains, beauty, and heart. She's great with cats, dogs, and kids, making her a wonderful fit for a loving family. Though she's still learning the ropes of life like potty training and crate training, she shines brightest when she's playing with her siblings or soaking up head scratches and giving kisses. Bebe's story started when her brave mom, abandoned by her owner, found safety at her foster home to give birth. Dad has been faithfully by Mom's side for years, and together they've raised a litter of wonderful pups like Bebe. She may start off a little shy, but once she warms up, you'll see her fun side shine. Bebe loves to run and play with her siblings (she's the fastest of the bunch!) and will happily be your mellow cuddle buddy when it's time to rest. If you're looking for a pup who will adore you as much as you adore her, Bebe is waiting to meet you! Go ahead and submit an adoption application for her now! Favorite toy: Her siblings Best rub spot: Right between the eyes Hidden skill: Outrunning everyone at playtime! $250 Local Adoption Fee (in Texas) $550 Out of State Adoption Fee (includes transportation to your area)

You look pretty smart and put together... and that is WHY you want to adopt me! I was found in a neighborhood, wandering in the blistering heat as well as the "colder" weather (40's in San Antonio is REALLY COLD :D And the lady who took time to feed me and gain my trust was the same lady who saved me! She knew that I was a GOOD dog, just looking for someone to save me from the streets and give me HOPE for a better life. No one really knows my back story, but some things are obvious.... I am smart and sensitive to new environments, I am sweet and CUDDLY, I am LOVING being back in a home and have been potty trained since minute one.... I love my unstuffed toys and carry my "baby" around all day. I am a mess with fireworks or other loud- end of the world- kind of stuff. I am not a huge fan of bathing but LOVE a great car ride!! I am learning all kinds of cool things here, the most important thing is I am loved!!! So if you want to continue the lessons, come and adopt me!! I am waiting!!
