Story
Meet Allie! Our vet estimates her to be 8yrs old and she has been spayed. Allie weighs about 50lbs.  We wanted the vet to check her right eye since it presents somewhat smaller than the left eye. The vet agreed that it was most likely trauma from goodness knows how long ago. Upon testing, she does have limited sight in that eye but nothing that really effects her.  She has gone through and recovered from much needed FHO surgery since she had some old trauma to her right rear leg as well as treatment for Lyme.  She absolutely adores attention from people so we think she didn't have much in her past :( She walks fine on a leash and is housetrained. Occasionally you'll see her with a toy but it's not a standard thing for her. The foster she is with is certain that right now, she is the most grateful dog in the house - her sighs of contentment while getting a belly rub for no reason says it all.  While she currently lives with other dogs in fostercare, it took us months for her to accept and trust them. But with slow & steady crate rotations, introductions & limited interactions, she has become part of the pack.  She should not be in a home with cats though is our gut feeling.  Check out our site for an application to make Allie a part of your family and FaceBook for adoption event details. (www.endingthesadness.org) Our adoption fee is $325 and all of our pets come with full vet records. All animals are up to date on vaccinations & dewormed. Please keep in mind we are a Rescue Group and most of our pups come to us with little or no background info regarding breed, eventual size, age or prior health issues. We rely on the expertise of our veterinarians and make estimates based on past experience. Also, when you're adopting from a Rescue, you should ask questions! You should always get shot/medication records and the rescue should have had the dog for a bit of time to check for disease. Take the time to educate yourself before adopting. A reputable rescue will have nothing to hide and will answer ALL your questions!!! Please visit our Web Site to see all of the pets we have for adoption. Our site contains information about our adoption process and fees, our application, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please read it carefully before contacting us. If you are interested in adopting THIS wonderful pet, we strongly encourage you to complete our adoption application now. Once we receive and approve your application, we will notify you of approval. The first application to be received and approved will get 1st choice - be sure that your references are available and willing to speak with us. Thank You Visit us at one of our next adoption days. Details are on our site under the How to Adopt tab. Hope to see you there!September 26, 2023, 1:56 pm

NOTE:  If you see this post, we are still taking applications.  If interested, please visit our site directly rather than going thru a search engine like PetFinder to show interest or fill out an app - they are not affiliated with us, we just post there and many other places. Meet Lager!  Lager is part of an unwanted litter born 5/24/22 from KY.  Mom is a shepherd mix on the smaller side and Dad is thought to be an australian shepherd.  We currently just have him & his sister left of the gang. Lager is the biggest of the 2 left in this litter but really only weighs about 50-55lbs.  This guy lives through his belly so training him with treats should be a breeze.  He's a bit of a big goof (in a good way) as he has his fostermom laughing more than once every day.  He loves all toys and is very curious about new things.  Lager is also very interested in what you have to say even if he has no idea what you're saying so you can get his attention (which isn't always common in youngsters).  In general, he's pretty laid back for a pup so he's kinda like the strong, silent type.  His current fosterhome has a fenced yard so his leash training will definitely need work.  Lager is definitely a country boy though, so we don't see him ending up in a home in the city. He needs training at this point so if you are interested in making him a part of your home and have the time & patience to teach him how to be the perfect companion, visit our site (endingthesadness.org) to submit an application to be considered. REQUIREMENTS:  Adopters must be within 2hrs driving distance, have recent dog experience, no young children please, and are home more often than not.September 26, 2023, 1:56 pm

Our girl Jett loves ALL toys.  Her absolute favorite though is a tennis ball and will actually either hold it in her mouth forever or simply bring it back to you to throw it over & over again.  She's a social butterfly having zero hesitation of starting play (or trouble LOL) with anyone willing to partake in 'go-time'.   Jett gives 'air kisses' to everyone including dogs when she's happy so she does it A LOT!  Oh - & she's the queen of the head tilt .  Jett's just a very happy pup just about all the time and her whole body wiggles to show you :)  She's currently in a fosterhome with a fenced in yard so her leash experience is very limited but she's very treat motivated so training should be a breeze.  Jett is definitely a country girl though, so we see no city life in her future. Story
GSD/Husky/Lab/Catahoula mixFour year old Dexter W. is a mixture of Labrador, GSD, Husky and Catahoula. His former owner’s parents have recently taken him in and he is just too much dog for them. They describe him as “a fun, smart and energetic companion. He loves to be near us and is a loyal best friend who loves to play.”  They believe he would be best with a family with older children or a family of young adults because of his energy level.  He has never been around cats. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. CINDERELLA was transferred to GaDaH from a high kill shelter in Texas on 22nd April 2023. We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue  YouTube channel  and  photo albums on our Facebook page  to see a LOT of pictures and videos.      CINDERELLA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm/tick tested negative. She is on monthly prevention, microchipped, has an estimated date of birth of 30 December 2019 and at the time of transport weighed 63.6 pounds. We have no way of knowing what the actual breed is, so it is up to people to look at the pictures and video's to make up their own mind. CINDERELLA was picked up as a stray who had been hit by a car and had a broken foot. The foot had already started to heal and a callous formed and so re-setting the break was not possible. It was thought that amputation might be needed, however, the vet decided to give her some time to see how she got on. Cinderella has been with a foster family and has been using her foot, she does run, play and jump and so thankfully amputation was not needed. However, where the break was and callous has formed, will be weaker and it is recommended jumping be limited and supplements to help strengthen her bones be given. The shelter is willing to forward x-rays to the adopters veterinarian who has the software to open the radiographs. She may occasionally need pain meds on cold days or at times when she has been a little too energetic and she will get arthiritis in the future so it is important to discuss with your vet for high quality supplements, food and potential treatments for arthiritis. She does NOT need limited exercise, but it is important to restrict activity such as jumping and such that could cause excess impact on her foot. CINDERELLA is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine for an adoption fee of $550.       This adoption fee covers the cost of running a brick and mortar rescue as well as any transport, veterinary, food,   treats, toys costs and the many expenses that rescues endure to keep the pets in their care safe, and happy.     Be sure to read all the information and if interested, go to the rescue website to submit an adoption application. https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavors. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating. There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free! &#226&#128&#139You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the "3 Point Rule" Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3-month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the ADOPTION INFO tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 1-2 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then we can schedule your appointment to come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine for meet/greet/adopt Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx. 8 miles) and approx. 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
