Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MATEO will be arriving in Maine on Saturday 10 May 2025 We are happy to accept and process applications before she arrives. Mateo was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas  arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine at the end of April. We post our available dogs in states across the east coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes to find perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs, families must come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and then hopefully take home. Mateo is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm, is on monthly preventatives, microchipped, and in March 2025 weighed 25 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of December 2024.    We can not say for sure what the breed is, we expect families to decide looking at any pictures and video's provide and decide if the breed is a good fit for their family. This is what the shelter relayed from his foster family about this sweet boy: Meet Mateo – Your New Best Friend! Mateo is not just any dog—he’s the whole package wrapped in a wagging tail and a sparkling personality! This incredibly smart and confident boy is on the hunt for his forever home, and trust us, he’s a catch you don’t want to miss. Here's just a few things you’ll love about Mateo: Mateo 101: ·        Potty Prodigy: Mateo is fully potty trained—no mess, no stress! He’s a master of dog door excursions too! ·        Smarty-Paws: He’s got brains for days and loves to learn (especially if treats are involved—he's a *foodie*, after all). ·        Independent Spirit: While he loves your attention, Mateo is perfectly content investigating his surroundings and taking time for himself too. ·        Pack Player: Mateo adores being part of a dog pack. He thrives with his furry friends and knows how to fit right in. ·        Kid-Approved: Gentle and playful, Mateo is fantastic with children and would be the perfect addition to a family. ·        Obedient & Mischievous: A unique mix of well-behaved and cheekily curious—he’ll follow commands one moment and hilariously investigate your shoe collection the next. ·        Playtime Enthusiast: Whether it’s fetch, tug-of-war, or exploring the great outdoors, Mateo’s energy and enthusiasm know no bounds! ·        Sunbathing Aficionado: When the fun winds down, you’ll find him stretched out in a patch of sunlight, enjoying life’s little pleasures. Mateo’s foster family absolutely adores him and would keep him forever if they could—but they know he’s destined to make another family just as happy. Are you ready to meet this amazing pup and give him the loving home he deserves? We can’t wait for you to fall in love with him as much as we have. Mateo is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550, as noted he is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine and families are required to complete and submit an  adoption application and when approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and hopefully take home this sweet boy. Applications are processed with 24 hours of them being received. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. MARGO was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas and  arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Friday, 14th February. We post our available dogs in states across the east coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes to find perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs, families must come to the rescue to meet and then hopefully take home.. MARGO is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm and tick tested negative, is on monthly flea/tick prevention and was given the 12 month pro-heart heartworm prevention injection in February 2025. She is microchipped and on 12 February weighed 58.20 pounds. She has an estimated date of birth of January 2023.  We do not know what the breed is, we expect families to decide looking at any pictures and video's provide and decide if the breed is a good fit for their family. This beautiful girl was adopted from a Texas shelter as a young pup in June 2013, sadly found herself back in a kill shelter in December 2024 at just under 2 years old and is a complete love bug. At the shelter, before coming to Maine, MARGO was lucky to be part of the shelters "Doggy Day Out Program" as she as so well behaved - this is some feedback from the shelter volunteers in their play groups: (5 January) - Shelter Doggy Day Out Program "How did your dog do in the car? Loved it! Which of the following activities did the dog enjoy? Going on a walk How did they interact with strangers? I love meeting new friends! If they saw any cats, how did they react? We didn’t see any cats If they saw any other dogs, how did they react? She was super curious and wanted to go right up to them. She didn’t bark at any even when they would bark at her If they met any children, how did they react? She didn’t meet any children How did I walk on the leash? She was excited and would stay at the pace I went How were my manners and do I know any tricks? Jumpy, Good manners Did they show any of the additional behaviors listed below? Warms up (timid at first), Wants to sniff, Wants to run The best part of my Daycation was when.......Ending our day with a pup cup! Any additional notes you would like to include about the dog? Margo was happy and excited to do anything in the day!" The shelter volunteer stated (8 January) Dog didn't mind the other and made way away from others to relax to self for some time and showed some playful energy with the others once getting warmed up with the group. (16 January) High energy, jumpy, social with people, loose wiggly body, wants to play and run, high energy. (22 January) During the observation Margo was a good girl, she listens to the command sit and has a burst of energy. (28 January) High energy, jumpy, knows sit, knows shake, leash puller. Social with dogs and people, loose wiggly body. Love bug, wants to play, wants to run, solicits pets. Knows sit, shake, energetic, jumper, loves to run interests in dogs leash reactive.  (Rescue comments - it is important to take into account when reading these comments that these dogs are in a strange environment with a lot of dogs, and they are learning about each other in a very small space of time, it is high stimulation environment, also often the first time they have had exercise with other dogs.  Comments are from volunteers, not trainers or behavio rists). We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. MARGO is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $300, as noted she is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine and families are required to complete and submit an  adoption application and when approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and hopefully take home this sweet girl. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. KODA was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas and  arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Friday, 14th February. We post our available dogs in states across the east coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes to find perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs, families must come to the rescue to meet and then hopefully take home. KODA is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm and tick tested negative, is on flea/tick prevention and was given the 12 month pro-heart heartworm prevention injection in February 2025. He is microchipped and on 12 February weighed 54.40 pounds. He has an estimated date of birth of December 2022.  We do not know what the breed is, we expect families to decide looking at any pictures and video's provide and decide if the breed is a good fit for their family. Koda's adoption fee has been reduced in hopes to find his forever home as he is not doing great in the kennel environment, he gets over-stimulated which doesn't help as he isn't getting the mental stimulation or exercise that he needs. Koda is an incredibly affectionate boy, he is very responsive, knows sit and possibly other commands. Koda needs a family that understand the breeds needs and has the active lifestyle that he needs. We are looking for a family that understand that dogs need time to decompress and figure out what has happened to them the past several months, who these new people are and to learn the new rules, boundaries and expectations of their new families. He takes treats gently, rode great on the transport up from the airport up to the rescue and uses the dog door with no problems. He is a dog that definitely needs mental stimulation and training so he knows exactly what is expected of him. When he first arrived at the rescue, he would try and bolt out of the gate, jump up when I was trying to give him his food - after just a few days of correction he has learned, he still gets excited but he is in a kennel environment and craving attention. The shelter volunteer stated that Koda began to wag his tail when he saw them in front of his kennel. He took treats from them still wagging his tail. His eyes were friendly and his body was relaxed. He had a very friendly demeanor. A volunteer took him to a play group and said he was quick to join play with others and very pushy and obnoxious with his energy towards others. Would run and roughhouse with others that can keep up with his energy. Needed to be corrected due to getting too into play and being too pushy and excited with others at times.   (Rescue comments - it is important to take into account when reading these comments that these dogs are in a strange environment with a lot of dogs, and they are learning about each other in a very small space of time, it is high stimulation environment, also often the first time they have had exercise with other dogs.
