Story
Meet Matthias. He's a 2 year old German Shepherd who weighs about 92 pounds. He is named after Matthias Jabs, the lead guitarist for the German band the Scorpions. And just like his namesake our Matthias is sure to be a rock star! Matthias is a great dog! He needs a 6ft fence. Good with most other dogs but likes to play and can be overwhelming for all but the highest energy dogs. He would be fine as an only dog with a very active family. He is good on a leash. His ideal family would have dog experience and be willing to work with him on exercise and daily training.   ~Adoption donation $300.  All vetting is up to date. Microchipped and neutered. Also on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Visit www.ruffloverescue.com/adoption to make this pup a member of your family. June 1, 2023, 7:16 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. GRACIE ~1 1/2 years old.  Good with dogs. Good with older considerate kids. Cats TBD. Needs a companion animal. GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only Do you remember the song ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’?  The name of the song fits this sweet little pumpkin pie, Gracie.  She is a smaller size pup, weighing about 50 lbs but she can hang with the best of them.  This sweet girl loves playing with her fur sisters and brothers.  Just check out her videos. If a pup wants to play, Gracie is ready to go but she can also chill with the best of them. She also loves to play with toys. She is house and crate trained and rides well in the car.   Gracie is a little love bug. She loves to be close to you and will cuddle in your lap, if you let her, or snuggle on the couch. She has so much love to give and has been waiting patiently for a wonderful family to see how special she is.     Gracie was picked up as a stray when she was about 6 months old.  When she first came to the rescue, she was shy and uncomfortable around people and new places. I hate to think of what must have happened to her during that time to make her that way. But that's in the past and with the help and guidance of her amazing foster mom and a wonderful trainer to show her that people and new places weren’t that scary, she is a different girl. Gracie would love a family who would be willing to be a little patient in the beginning.  Just to give her a chance to know that she is in a safe place filled with love.  The love you will get back will be neverending.  She will need a playful companion and a fenced yard so they can run and have fun. Do you think this sweet girl might be the one you have been searching for?  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.For more information on our adoptable pet list please visit: Adoptable Pet List Please join us at our next Event(s): Current Scheduled Events:         May 31, 2023, 10:00 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. FORREST~6-8 years old.  Good with kids and dogs. Cats TBD. Please note: Forrest is not a GSRA dog, he is being fostered by Jeanne B. – please contact her with questions or to find out more about Forrest -- jmbonds62@gmail.com Meet Forrest! A cuddly teddy bear who had been on his own for more than two months. Forrest is a German Shepherd/Husky mix. The vet estimates that he’s about six- eight years old but he acts like a puppy! Forrest gets along well with all other dogs and all people (I have not introduced him to cats). He is very gentle and super smart. He yearns for a human companion or two. I can tell he’s lived in a home before because he is housetrained and well- behaved. He’s learning to be comfortable in a crate and is anxious when riding in a car. But he does great at the vet’s office and in dog day camp. We are working with him on training and he is smart and receptive. He definitely appreciates his warm soft bed on the floor beside his humans  Please consider opening your heart and home to this wonderful dog.  He’s in good health and is up-to-date on all of his vaccines and is neutered; he is heartworm negative and on prevention. He had a UTI but is fully recovered.  Please contact Jeanne B at jmbonds62@gmail.com for more information about Forrest.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.For more information on our adoptable pet list please visit: Adoptable Pet List Please join us at our next Event(s): Current Scheduled Events:         May 31, 2023, 10:00 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.PRINCE ~6-8 years old. Not good with dogs. Kids and cats TBD. GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.                       Prince is a very special boy, who lived in a shelter for a whole year before coming into GSRA. The shelter took care of this sweet boy and kept him safe, they saw something in him that was worthwhile to protect. I cannot thank them enough for doing this! Prince first came to us almost completely shut down, but we have given him time to decompress on his terms. This is key to this special boy. If he is rushed too quickly to acclimate to your environment, it will scare him. Now that Prince has been in foster care for over a month, he is a completely different dog. He loves his foster family, is a very happy and content boy, lives for his walks where he scouts bunnies and squirrels, and has a playful side that will make you feel warm inside. There is just something magical about him. You just have to give him time to relax enough to show it to you. Prince will do best in a home without any dogs or children since it just adds to his uncertainty. We are just now starting to work with him on some obedience, so slow and steady will win the race. Prince is house trained and knows how to use a dog door and has not had one accident in our home. He doesn't need to be crated since he respects your belongings. He will counter surf if given the chance though. He loves to smell EVERYTHING! Prince is a laid back dude who just likes to hang out with his family, and would love to accompany you on nice walks. He is very anxious in the car, so someone who doesn't expect him to travel much is necessary. We will work on de-sensitizing him by building on good experiences to see if we can get him more comfortable. While Prince is a "work in progress,” he won’t disappoint you if given the time. Note: Prince is heartworm positive, but he will be treated for them prior to adoption. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. FLETCHER ~1 year old. Good with older, considerate kids and dogs. Cats TBD. GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.        Meet Fletcher! This handsome boy is cool, calm and collected! Fletcher was an owner-surrender through no fault of his own, as his family could no longer take care of him. This sweet boy has a beautiful, soft coat, striking black muzzle/face and no tail. Fletcher’s foster mom shared that he has gone through a wonderful transformation since he joined GSRA and is really a “great dog”! Fletcher has done a nice job at our GSRA meet and greets and is comfortable allowing a greeting, a pet and will even gently accept treats! Fletcher is not a super effusive pup, he has more of a mellow/calm demeanor and stable personality, with a little healthy independence sprinkled in! Fletcher is house-trained, and does a super job in his crate. In fact, when his foster mom is tending to her other fosters, he demonstrates a ton of patience by waiting quietly in his crate until it is his turn to be let out. Fletcher enjoys playing with other dogs, but is also satisfied being on his own. He is good with puppies all the way to senior dogs! He would be good in a household with another well adjusted dog or he would also be fine as the only dog. No longer the squirrel chaser of his youth, Fletcher has matured and is very content entertaining himself by just sitting in the backyard and watching the squirrels play in the trees. He also enjoys taking a romp through the pond when the weather is hot and prefers to be out of the heat when temperatures are exceedingly high. Since Fletcher enjoys spending time outside, he will need a fenced yard. Fletcher being the all around good guy, enjoys a good car ride and does very well on trips and adventures! When he is not watching squirrels or playing with his fur pals, he also likes to play with toys! Fletcher has very high food drive which lends well to training - he knows his basic commands and has demonstrated strong potential toward excelling in more advanced training. Fletcher also does well on leash and LOVES to go for walks with his humans. Fletcher can be very sweet and likes relaxing on the couch with his humans. He is also not adverse to plopping his head on your lap for a little snuggle! Fletcher is waiting patiently for his forever family, could that be you?
