Story
Adjusts spectacles. Clears throat. Speaks in flawless English with a hint of distinguished charm. Greetings, future household staff. My name is Chleo — yes, with an “h.” It’s refined. I arrived as a stray on 2/19/26, which frankly feels like a clerical error, as I am clearly meant for a life of velvet cushions and intellectual discourse. The shelter estimates I am about a year old, which I find appropriate — old enough to have mastered the basics of civilization, young enough to still sprint joyfully through it. Let us address the obvious: I am absolutely stunning. Symmetry. Radiance. Poise. If beauty were a thesis, I would be peer-reviewed and published. But I am not merely a pretty face. I am, as the scholars say, a smart cookie. I sit. I shake. I strongly suspect I could balance a budget and possibly solve a mild riddle if properly motivated with treats. My energy level? Delightfully balanced. I enjoy a spirited romp with toys (which I can entertain myself with, thank you very much — independence is important), but I am not what one would call “chaotic.” I prefer the term enthusiastically composed. Now, let us discuss my greatest academic interest: You. I adore attention. I thrive on pets. I consider laps to be an advanced seating arrangement designed specifically for my comfort. If you sit, I shall likely join you. It is what philosophers call mutual enrichment. In summary: I am brilliant. I am affectionate. I am beautiful. I am accepting applications for the prestigious role of “Forever Family.” You may submit your credentials to the esteemed Richland County Dog Shelter in Mansfield. Telephone: 419-774-5892 Application requests: dogs@richlandcountyoh.gov Please note: This is an application process. I do not simply go home with just anyone. Standards must be upheld. I look forward to reviewing your qualifications. With intellect and affection, Chleo 🐾

Story
Meet Renee Renee is one of our absolute staff favorites — and we can’t believe she’s still waiting for her person. She often gets overlooked because she seems scared and unsure in her kennel. The shelter environment just isn’t her comfort zone. But the moment you take her out? It’s like meeting a completely different dog. Outside the kennel, Renee transforms into a total lovebug. She’s a lap dog at heart, soaking up affection and bonding quickly with her people. She’s also an adventure buddy through and through — always ready to explore, go for a hike, take a car ride, or join you on whatever fun the day brings. Renee is incredibly smart — honestly, a little too smart for her own good! She listens beautifully, picks up on cues quickly, and truly wants to please. With her fantastic listening skills and eager-to-learn personality, she would thrive with someone who enjoys an active, engaged companion. Renee just needs someone to look past the shy kennel exterior and see the amazing, loyal, fun-loving dog she truly is. Once you do, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without her.
