Story
Meet Zenna! Zenna is a 1-year-old female German Shepherd mix! She weighs 48 pounds, but we suspect that she still has some filling out to do. Zenna totally has a German Shepherd personality. She is crate-trained, potty-trained, and walks well on a leash. She was rescued from an Ohio pound and came to us with a lack of understanding of rules and boundaries. She is young and still learning, so she will need someone to continue to work with her and be willing to take her to a trainer if necessary. Zenna's ideal home is with someone who has a fenced-in yard and another medium/large-sized dog for her to play with. She would be fine as an only dog and without a fence as long as you are willing to entertain her and walk her on a leash. With time and training, she could become off-leash trained, but that isn't in her vocabulary at the moment. She does okay with kids and cats, but she is willing to chase whoever it is that runs from her, or run into anyone standing in her way when she gets the zoomies. Adoption Fee: $400 Place an application to be considered to adopt our girl Zenna! Her DNA result is also included in her photos! https://www.safeharboranimalrescue.org/application

Story
Meet Dodger. He was saved from an overcrowded shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia. He is now fully vetted, neutered and all vaccines. Dodger did test positive for Ehrlichia before he came to us and was put on a regime of doxycycline. He should need no further treatment and has no symptoms. He loves to play with other dogs and would benefit from another dog in the household. Not yet sure on cats. He is a friendly guy but young children may nut he a good fit due to his exuberance .  I do prefer a fenced yard for Dodger so he can play and burn off energy. His foster dad has been working on commands with him and Dodger is a quick learner and doing great. His foster family has told us that he loves to swim in their pond.  His adoption fee is $200. If interested in Dodger, please email hartmanshounds@gmail.com. NmApril 17, 2026, 1:02 pm

Story
Adeline, Addie for short, is a sweet girl looking for a home where she can get more attention with her human. She's incredibly smart, full of energy, and talkative. Addie loves to be part of the conversation. Adeline does have some separation anxiety, and loves being right by your side following you room to room. She doesn't do well with fireworks, thunderstorms, and other loud noises. She gets along well with the other dogs and cats that have been in the house. She does have a prey drive, but walks well on leash when using a gentle leader. Addie is house trained and would do well in a house where she can simply get the proper attention she needs. She's showing signs of hip dysplasia, but gets around just fine. I would love to keep my sweet girl, but I'm simply unable to give her the love and mental stimulation that she needs to really thrive. Would prefer she goes to someone with previous German Shephered experience or similar as she can be a lot to handle at times and needs patience

Story
Cooper is an 8 year old Shepard mix. He became a part of our family as a puppy and is one of the friendliest, sweetest boys you will ever meet. He loves being outside and playing with his toys. He also enjoys playing with other dogs and anyone that will give him attention. It is heartbreaking for me to have to re-home Cooper as he has truly been a best friend. However, my girlfriend’s child is severely allergic to him and we have explored all other options of keeping him.

Story
Meet Scott! 🐾 Scott is an adult German Shepherd with a very sweet heart and a very smart mind. He knows basic commands like sit and enjoys learning and engaging with his people. Scott loves going on walks, playing games, and will happily invite you to join in on the fun. When playtime is over, he’s just as happy soaking up affection, especially pets and belly rubs. With his loyal nature and playful spirit, Scott would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for both an active and affectionate best friend. Scott is a mix of two working-breed dogs, which means he will likely need ongoing training and consistent mental stimulation throughout his life. He did begin basic obedience training through our prison program; however, his strong dislike of golf carts caused his training to end earlier than planned. Scott will thrive with a confident, experienced handler who understands the needs of working breeds—both mentally and physically—and can provide the structure, engagement, and guidance he requires to succeed. The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A meet-and-greet is required for all shelter dogs if you already have a dog. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!
