DODGER

Story

Meet Dodger. He was saved from an overcrowded shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia. He is now fully vetted, neutered and all vaccines. Dodger did test positive for Ehrlichia before he came to us and was put on a regimen of doxycycline. He should need no further treatment and has no symptoms. He loves to play with other dogs and would benefit from another dog in the household. Probably not a good candidate for a home with cats. He is a friendly guy but young children may not be a good fit due to his exuberance . I do prefer a fenced yard for Dodger so he can play and burn off energy. His foster dad has been working on commands with him and Dodger is a quick learner and doing great. He has mastered many commands. He is a smart leaner and wants to please. He will heed a caregiver willing to exercise him. His foster family has told us that he loves to swim in their pond. His adoption fee is $200. If interested in Dodger, please email hartmanshounds@gmail.com.October 22, 2026, 5:36 pm

Story

Meet Charlie! 🐾 Charlie is a sweet adult German Shepherd mix that enjoys going for walks and would love an active family to keep up with him. He’s still working on his leash manners, so he’ll need someone who is patient and willing to help him learn. Charlie is also learning his basic commands and will benefit from continued training, encouragement, and plenty of positive reinforcement. One thing he already knows for sure? He LOVES attention! This handsome guy is always happy to soak up all the love you’re willing to give. With a little patience and guidance, Charlie could make a wonderful companion for someone looking for an active, affectionate dog. The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A meet-and-greet is required for all shelter dogs if you already have a dog. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Story

Meet Fitz (deaf!), a gorgeous 9-week-old male mixed breed puppy! Born in the safety of foster care to a rescued pregnant mama dog, Fitz has received nothing but love and top-tier care since day one. Thanks to a DNA test, we know exactly what makes this little superstar so special. Fitz is a unique blend of German Shepherd, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Siberian Husky (along with a few other fun surprise breeds mixed in!). Because of this powerful mix, we expect Fitz to grow into a large dog with plenty of brains, beauty, and energy. Fitz is a happy, confident, and curious pup who is learning how to navigate the world. Because he is a mix of highly intelligent and strong-willed working breeds, he is going to be incredibly smart and eager to learn. What makes Fitz even more special is that he is deaf! He does not let this slow him down one bit, but it does mean his future family will have the rewarding journey of teaching him using visual cues and hand signals. Fitz is going to be a big, strong, and highly capable boy. To help him reach his full potential and keep him safe, Fitz strictly requires a home with a securely fenced yard. He needs an experienced family who understands working breeds and is ready for the unique, rewarding experience of raising a deaf puppy. His future humans should provide him with structural guidance, active exercise, and plenty of mental stimulation. Story

Poor Buckeye came to us emaciated, anemic, and with a large amount of hair loss from a severe flea infestation. It took some time for us to get Buckeye back on track medically, and it took him a little bit to feel more like himself again, but Buckeye is finally feeling all better, and even though he's a senior, he's looking for a fresh start! Buckeye has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has tested neg. for heartworm which is included in the adoption fee. If you would like to adopt this dog, you must come into the shelter for a meet and greet. We are open 12-4. (Closed Mondays & Wednesdays)

Karl

German Shepherd Dog

Male, Young

Sandusky, OH

Size

(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)

Details

Not good with kids, Good with dogs, Good with cats, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained,

Story

We adopted Karl from a breeder as a pup. He’s always been very good with our other dogs and cats, he is intact. He does well with our children though he is very reactive with a lot of commotion but it’s always just barking; I definitely feel this is on us due to his breed needing to be worked daily and intensely trained. He listens very well, he never leaves his boundary, he walks our perimeter with me everyday for 40 minutes, he knows sit, down and shake. He is a good boy, our family is just too busy to give him the German shepherd attentiveness he needs. He does suffer from allergies (itching) but we have been able to resolve this completely with salmon food and withholding beef and pork from his diet. Someone who is experienced with separation anxiety, German shepherd or work breeds would do very well for Karl.
