**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Chance. I'm around 5 years old (DOB 5/9/19) and I weigh about 65 lbs currently, though I am very thin and could do well with about another 7-10 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound due to my breeder's health declining with her age. She was no longer able to properly care for us the way she once had before her husband passed away. I was primarily kept in a kennel in a kennel, so I will still need to be taught housebreaking and basic obedience. True to my breed, I am intelligent and I pick up on new routines very quickly. I can be a little timid with new people, but once I get to know you, I like attention and affection. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Story
He just wants someone to hold his hand and love him! Shadow is the sweetest 9/10 year old Shepherd mix. He is neutered, UTD on shots/bloodwork and is very healthy aside from his allergies. He does have allergies on his feet and requires Apoquel or he chews them. His owner passed away suddenly and he was thrown outside with his housemate. Shadow has met other dogs and many people. He LOVES all people and just wants to sit with you for cuddles and scratches. He walks well on a leash and is good for bathes and vet appointments. He loves to ride in the car and climbs right in. He does chase cats and would do best in a cat-free household. He comes with food, toys/blanket/bed, leash/collar, medication and treats. A small rehoming fee is required.

Story
Running down the road with his companion, Juliet, the handsome pair were picked up by a good Samaritan (Sam, get it?) and brought to the shelter for safety, food and preparation to move into loving homes. Sam is full of bluster when one approaches his kennel, but welcomes handlers warmly when they enter his kennel. He has power to pull on leash, so needs some training to heel. Using "lookup" on the phone, both dogs come up as Dutch shepherds which is a good guess as to their mix. Both seem to be between 1 and 2 years old ... a common age in shelters. The pair get along quite well with each other, but have not been introduced to other dogs, so it is still guesswork as to whether they can pair up with other dogs.

German Shepherd Dog Collie

Female, 4 mos
Washington, PA
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)

Good with dogs, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
From the size of her paws, it looks like Elsa is going to be a big girl. With her thick coat and coloring it's hard to pinpoint any single breed, especially since she is only around 3 months old. She appears to have shades of shepherd, collie, aussie and husky bouncing around in her as she bounces around chasing balls and pumpkins in the back play yard until she finally poops out and falls asleep. Many potential adopters seek out puppies that are all darling at this tender age and they are startled by the size they become in just a scant 6-8 months. And like all little ones, puppies need plenty of direction, routine and exercise during those initial couple of years to avoid problems caused by inactivity, boredom and lack of structure. If you are ready to work with a puppy, Elsa, and her pal, Anna are ready to learn.

Blossom

German Shepherd Dog

Female, 8 mos
Washington, PA
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Good with dogs, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
She has been recovering from surgery and still has a month of non-activity protocol for her healing to be complete. She is walking outside only to potty and the volunteers are hanging out in her kennel with her, assuring her that she will romp again ... but safely. Blossom is currently around 40 lbs. and won't be a whole lot bigger. With her fluffy coat and lovely reddish-brown markings she gives off a Bernese or Swiss mounting dog vibe. She has already shown her admiration for some of the calmer dogs and she lived with other dogs, so placing her with another dog may be in her future. For now it is TLC and R&R for Blossom.
