Story
He is a 15 month old, 75lbs German Shepherd/ Pitbull mix. He is very hyper and is extremely playful. A little too playful for a toddler, newborn, and a pregnant woman. He constantly knocks over our toddler with his energy outbursts. He jumps up on people a lot. He is a sweet puppy he’s just too big, strong, and high maintenance.

**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Chester. I'm about 1 year old and I weigh about 52 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Homeworth area around mid-October and I was picked up by the pound. When I first came in, I was unsocialized and I was fearful of everyone and everything. Through some hard work on the part of the volunteers and employees here at the pound, I am making a huge turn around. I am learning slowly learning that humans are pretty cool, and that I don't need to fear everything new, because some of the new stuff is pretty cool too. I have learned how to walk on a leash since I've came into the pound. That was pretty scary for me at first, but I have made wonderful progress. I am an affectionate boy and I like to give hugs when I am scared, or just when I would like some attention. I can be a bit on the vocal side, especially when I am on walks or in my kennel not getting attention, but I am trying to learn how to be a good boy. I will need a patient family willing to work with me on housebreaking and training. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Story
I adopted Coda from a California rescue where I was a trainer. She was very reactive and untrained when I got her. After a year of dedicated training, she transformed into a wonderful companion with several canine friends, including an unexpected bond with a small purse dog. We were inseparable until I moved her to a farm in Lawrence County after getting married. However, the farm life hasn't suited her; her prey drive led to the deaths of our poultry and posed a danger to our cats. Now relegated to an outdoor kennel, she barks constantly. As a busy father and business owner, I can't give her the attention she needs anymore so its no longer best for her to be with me. She has to go. No hip displasia. Love to play, train, hike, run, and just be by her owners side. I know shes older (12-13 I think) but shes one of a kind, I'm hoping to find a loving retirement home where she can spend her remaining years comfortably, happy and getting the love and dedication she rightfully deserves.

Story
DIAMOND Approx 50 lbs 💎  LIKES: Loves to play! Tennis balls are her absolute favorite, but any ball will do! Also enjoys soft plushy toys, but she does rip them apart. Loves chew toys/bones. Enjoys going for walks. Would probably like light jogs/runs. Loves to come in and snuggle up after a nice day of running and playing.  She also loves pup cups, whipped cream, and cheese.   Her new favorite thing is to jump up on the bed and get morning snuggles before starting her day ❤️ 💎  DISLIKES: New environments are very scary for Diamond. She is pretty wary of new people, and needs time to warm up. She is still learning to trust. Also needs time to warm up to new dogs. Does not like them in her space too quickly. Doesn’t like to give up her tennis ball. 💎  PERSONALITY: She is very loving once she warms up to you. She’s a total sucker for pets and snuggles once she decides that you’re her person. She’s incredibly loyal to her person, and loves them fiercely. She definitely loves to be your shadow! Has a pretty typical Dutch shepherd personality. 💎  TEMPERAMENT: She may be timid, but she’s a spit fire! Still pretty fearful of most things that she doesn’t know. Well mannered, but can be mouthy when it comes to tennis balls (getting much better) Slow to warm up and needs time to build trust. 💎  ENERGY LEVEL: high energy level when she is outside. Will need to be in a home that’s willing to exercise this girl, and ideally give her a job. A solid 1.5 - 2 hours of high energy play seems to be enough each day to level her out, but she will go more than that too! That being said, she has a really nice "off" switch when coming inside. She enjoys coming in for naps and snuggles at the end of the day. 💎  FAVORITE ACTIVITES: Loves being outside. Playing fetch is her favorite. Loves running around with other dog in foster home. Doesn’t mind car rides, and LOVES the pup cups from Dunkin or Starbucks. 💎  GOOD WITH CATS, DOGS, and KIDS OVER 6?: Currently fostered with a German Shepherd, and they get along well. Also frequently around older male GS and does well. Seems to prefer a companion that isn't jumping all over her. Also fostered with cat. Pretty sure that she's more afraid of the cat than it is of her 😆. Should be ok with children over 6 as long as they understand that she needs space and time to learn trust. She can also be mouthy with tennis balls, so would not recommend kids playing specifically with tennis balls with her. Foster home has a 2 year old. She does well with being petted, and is learning to be ok with fast movements and loud noises. Takes treats/food very gentle. Does get anxious when child visitors come into the home, but is ok if left alone.  Biggest problem with really little kiddos is that Diamond does not always watch where she is going and knocks them over 😬 Not good with: watching where she is going when she is playing outside. Will run into things/people if not redirected. 💎  HOUSETRAINED: has not had an accident in quite some time! Has cried a few times when she really needs to go out, other than that she just seems to wait until we let her out. 💎  CRATE TRAINED: yes. Sleeps in crate at night and does well. (Not sure how she would do in a crate during the day) 💎  CHALLENGES: over excitement with tennis balls-can be a little snappy. Helping her to gain confidence and learn to trust. 💎  ANY MEDICAL ISSUES? Has started medication for anxiety. Has had previous trauma and favors back right leg. Will likely have arthritis as she gets older. On joint supplements and will need to stay on them. 💎  What would be the best kind of home: Would love to see her go to a home that understands the breed, and that can meet her energy requirements. A relaxed in-home environment would be ideal due to her anxiety/stress. May like a doggy friend, but may be picky about if she likes them/ may need extra time to bond. The MOST important thing for Diamond is to go to a home that is willing to give her the time to learn to trust, and to also be willing to take the time to train her as it does seem to help Our adoption process starts with our application. Once the application is approved, a member of Legacy will contact you to set up a home visit. The home visit usually last 1-1 1/2 hours and is to make sure our dog and any current dogs/cats are getting along, as well as both of us agreeing it's a fit. At this time the adoption fee is due, and begins the 2 week trial. We will check in during the 2 week trial. If it's not working, our dog is returned to the foster home and all except $100.00 {$75 if Senior} of the adoption fee is returned. At the end of the 2 week trial, you decide if you will finalize the adoption - if finalized, the Adoption Contract is signed and all medical records are turned over to you. If at any time you
