**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Chester. I'm about 1 year old and I weigh about 52 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Homeworth area around mid-October and I was picked up by the pound. When I first came in, I was unsocialized and I was fearful of everyone and everything. Through some hard work on the part of the volunteers and employees here at the pound, I am making a huge turn around. I am learning slowly learning that humans are pretty cool, and that I don't need to fear everything new, because some of the new stuff is pretty cool too. I have learned how to walk on a leash since I've came into the pound. That was pretty scary for me at first, but I have made wonderful progress. I am an affectionate boy and I like to give hugs when I am scared, or just when I would like some attention. I can be a bit on the vocal side, especially when I am on walks or in my kennel not getting attention, but I am trying to learn how to be a good boy. I will need a patient family willing to work with me on housebreaking and training. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Meeko. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 51 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Salem area and I was brought into the pound. I was microchipped, but my owner stated she could no longer care for me and chose to surrender me instead of claiming me. I am a sweet girl. I can be timid at first with new people, but I warm up quickly. I have been good with the other dogs that I have met here at the pound. I keep my kennel clean at night and I appear to be housebroken. I act very husky-like and would probably do best with a family that has experience with huskies. Story
Do you know what I mean when you see a dog that is so gorgeous, he stops you in your tracks? Well, introducing Chancey! This incredibly handsome 4 year boy is now available and looking for a loving home. He has been a wonderful house guest, and really just appreciates being in a home and hanging out. He is potty trained and house trained, and has been good with my 7 year old grandson. He knows a few commands, like sit and shake, and is eager to learn new things if treats are involved. He does pretty good on leash, but does pull a bit occasionally. I have found he does better in a crate if there is another dog in the home he can see. He has been polite to my 25lb senior dog, and had a blast playing in the fenced in yard with another foster puppy. I am asking for a fenced in yard, or an active family that will get him out of the house for long walks or hikes. No condos or apartments due to him being loud on occasion.  His adoption fee is $250, and includes all up to date vetting, neuter, microchip, and endless love from Chancey!! Please fill out an application at pawsandprayers.org if you would like to be considered to adopt this awesome guy. Please also feel free to email me at sswank1@gmail.com after your application has been submitted. This pet qualifies for the Pets for Patriots program. Story
Dani is about a year old and currently weighs 42 lbs. she has lots of puppy energy. She plays hard all day long, so we are looking for a home with another dog to play with. She also can jump 4 feet off the ground and loves to run so she will also need a fenced yard. She likes to chase cats, so she might not be good with cats. She loves people attention and is very affectionate once she knows you. Currently she needs socializing with people but loves all the dogs she meets. Dani sleeps in her crate through the night. She is potty trained. She has been spayed and is  up-to-date on all her vaccines including rabies. She is micro chipped and is treated monthly for flea and tick plus she is on monthly heart worm  preventative. Her adoption fee is $300.00 If you would like to meet Dani, please fill out a non-obligatory application@pawsandprayers.org and contact me, her foster mom at sue@pawsandprayers.org.April 23, 2024, 6:10 am
