Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.  Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.General Notes | Sassafras is a young golden mix who is trading Alabama sweet tea for fresh Colorado mountain air! This leggy, happy-go-lucky girl is the ultimate quintessential golden—she loves every person, dog, and cat she meets, and she's already fully crate and house trained. Ready to add a little spice and a lot of love to your life, Sassafras can't wait to find her forever family in the Rockies!Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.  Personality | Sassafras has a typical, happy golden personality and is super friendly with everyone! Story | Sassafras was adopted as a puppy in Alabama before finding herself dumped at the shelter once she wasn't a tiny puppy anymore. Luckily MHLM wanted to give this sweet girl another chance and she's now ready to find her forever family in Colorado!Other Dogs | Great with other dogs! She likes to play with the dog she's being fostered with!Cats | Good with cats!Children | Great with kids!Training | Miss Sassy girl is already crate trained and potty trained!Leash | She loves to go on walks, but needs some work on the leash. Activity Level | Moderate. Health Notes | Healthy and happy!Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $750 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file. Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!June 12, 2026, 11:01 am

Story
This spunky gal will do best in a home with another dog.  She is crate trained and is good in a crate when she can see her humans but needs other alternatives when a human leaves the house.  She will need plenty of exercise since she is still a puppy at her age.  She would do great a doggy daycare and will need a family that will continue to build her confidence.  And she loves frozen stuffed kongs! We require an application, phone interview and home visit prior to meeting a dog and potential adoption. Our adoption fee for dogs under 9 months is $400, dogs between 9 months and 8 years is $350 and 8+ years is $125.. Please visit our website for more information. Thank you!

Story
Fernando is a big, goofy Golden Retriever mix with a fun, happy personality. He came to Colorado from an overcrowded situation in Texas and has adjusted quickly. He is playful, social, and always seems to have a smile on his face. He loves being around his people and is a classic wiggle worm. He is already picking up on basic boundaries like “no” and giving space during mealtimes, but he will still keep a hopeful eye on your plate. When he settles, he is happy to relax on his dog bed nearby. Fernando is still young and working through typical puppy behaviors, including chewing. He will need a home that keeps things out of reach and continues consistent training. He is a large, strong dog who does not always realize his size. He can be excitable and will need an adopter who can handle him physically and continue working on leash skills and manners. He will benefit from regular exercise and structure. Fernando is very dog friendly and is currently living with a large male dog and a cat. He would likely do well with another dog who can match his energy and play style. Because of his size and enthusiasm, he is not a fit for a home with young children. Fernando is a sweet, fun dog who will do best in an active home that can provide structure, consistency, and continued training. ##2714443##
