Toby is a gorgeous, all black Golden Retriever mix around 1 year old and 36 pounds. This sweet boy is still learning that the world can be kind. Rescued from a home overwhelmed with too many dogs, Toby didn’t get much one-on-one attention from humans early in life. As a result, he’s understandably shy and cautious. He likes other dogs and his comfort with canine companions makes him a great candidate for a home with a confident, friendly dog who can show him the ropes and help build his trust. Toby watches and observes new situations from a safe distance, quietly observing. With a calm, predictable environment and a gentle touch, Toby is blossoming into a loving and loyal friend. He’s looking for an adopter who understands that love doesn’t always come bounding into your lap—it sometimes sits quietly, waiting to feel safe. If you’re the kind of person who finds joy in helping dogs build confidence and achieve victories, Toby might just be your perfect match. The vet who neutered and vaccinated Toby said he is a Golden Retriever mix which is what is on his records. From Toby’s foster mom: I have been fostering Toby for the last month or so and we have made great strides! Toby is such a sweet and silly boy. He is so affectionate with his humans and loves to play with my dog Annie and is all for his toys. He gives me lots of kisses and prances around the yard like a bunny. We are working through some people/dog fear with a trainer. He is house trained (he loves to be praised for making in the yard) and knows sit, down, is learning spin and we are crate training. He also knows how to wait when I open doors and place his food down. He is also great walking on leash! He will hold a heel and check in! Super food motivated which helps a bunch!!! His recall is excellent; a testament to his loyalty.
