Story
Adoptable in: MA, RI, NH, CT, and VTGood with dogs: YesGood with cats: YesGood with kids: Yes, dog savvy childrenCrate trained: YesHouse Trained: Yes This hairy heartthrob is Leo. He might look like a lion, but he’s totally channeling the energy of a cozy throw rug. The absolute definition of laid-back, this Golden Retriever mix is content with short strolls, long naps, sunbathing, and car rides (especially if there’s a drive-thru treat involved). He’s quiet, gentle, and doesn’t bark or jump, making him an easy companion to have around the house. His personality shines through in the sweetest ways—like the soft little “talking” noises he makes or the way he happily comes running when he hears his name or a treat bag. He lives for belly rubs, will politely sit at your feet for affection, and occasionally sports adorable “Grinch slippers” when his fur grows out.Leo has a calm, respectful approach to other animals. He’ll give a polite sniff as a greeting and then go about his day—no drama, no roughhousing. He isn’t particularly playful with other dogs, so he’d do best with a similarly mellow canine companion or as your one-and-only. He doesn’t react on leash and tends to simply observe the world around him without pulling, barking, or chasing. Leo is wonderful with children, especially those who understand and respect his gentle nature. He hasn’t shown interest in toys or high-energy play, preferring a predictable environment where he can relax and feel secure. While his history suggests he may have experienced some unkind handling, he’s learning to trust and will thrive in a patient, loving home.Leo is a smart, treat-motivated boy who already has a solid foundation of good manners and is eager to keep learning at his own pace. He has had zero accidents in his foster home and has a subtle way of letting you know when he needs to go out—he’ll simply come lie by the door. Leo doesn’t need much—just kindness, consistency, and someone who will never give up on him again. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate, low-maintenance companion with a heart of gold, Leo is your boy! Please Note: All dogs are posted on our website until they are officially adopted. This dog may have other interested adopters in line. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website at www.lasthopek9.org. **Teka is a courtesy posting for our friends at Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, so please reach out to adopt@yggr.org to apply!** +Teka is a 52 lb Golden-Hearted Retriever Mix+ Hi! I’m Teka, and I’m SO excited to tell you about myself! If I had to describe myself in three words, I’d say: goofy, rambunctious, and full of life! Okay, that last one wasn’t really one word, but hey, I’m a dog, not an English major! All I’m trying to say is that I’m a super fun, playful pup who loves being as wiggly as possible. Zoomies are one of my favorite activities! After I burn off some energy, I’m happy to settle in for cuddles and soak up all the love. People are another one of my favorite things. I love attention, pets, and snuggling with my human friends. I enjoy being the center of attention, but I can also share the home with a dog who can match my playful style and understand my enthusiasm. I’ve got a few doggy friends here at YGRR and have shown to prefer females. I’m also a big fan of toys, maybe a little too big of a fan. I like to destroy them and sometimes try to eat the pieces, so durable toys and hard bones are the way to go for me. I’m great at entertaining myself once I’ve got something sturdy to chew on! If you’re looking for a fun-loving, wiggly girl who brings big energy, big laughs, and big cuddles, I might just be your perfect match. What do you think? I sound pretty amazing, right? What I Need in a Forever Home: +An active home that enjoys play, zoomies, and cuddles +An adopter who loves a goofy, attention-loving companion +Older dog-savvy kids are okay **Teka is a courtesy posting for our friends at Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, so please reach out to adopt@yggr.org to apply!**
