Mavis was rescued from a fast-kill, small-town, dog pound. She was underweight and had skin problems from the nasty dirty greasy collar that was around her neck. She is a different dog now. A little pudgy at 70 pounds, but with a beautiful and fluffy coat. She is a golden retriever mix and is estimated to be around 5 years old. Mavis is crate trained, house trained, well-behaved in the house, walks well on a leash, and rides well in a vehicle. Mavis loves children and all people. She will sit at your feet and wait for pets. Mavis gets along with most dogs and loves to play. (We have one female dog that doesn't like Mavis so she likes to agitate that dog whenever she can LOL). Mavis is active and she likes to bark at squirrels. Mavis loves walks and playing with toys and other dogs. We do crate her at night but she does not need to be crated. Mavis is sweet, gentle, and loving. She is a wonderful dog. We do think she was beaten because she is scared of sticks and other things that might be used to hit her. And we do not understand why someone would hit such a good dog. Mavis must be in the house as a loved member of the family. Mavis did run out the gate once and took off exploring. We had to chase her down with a vehicle and caught up to her by the post office. So she cannot be trusted off-leash, and definitely needs a fenced yard to run and play. Mavis is healthy. She is spayed, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. Mavis has been treated for heartworms and they are now dead. She is on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Mavis' adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport to Warren NJ, Allentown PA, or Nanuet NY. She is being fostered in Texas and we cannot afford to send her north until after she is adopted. Name: Luna Breed: Golden Retriever Shiba Inu mix Weight: approx 30 lbs. Age: 2 years old Personality: Luna is a resilient, loyal, fun-loving pup! She lights up every room she enters with her smile and big personality. Nothing phases her or slows her down one bit! She is eager to try new things and very calm in the process. She LOVES to cuddle, receive belly rubs, and be pet! Luna is great with being handled and wouldn't hurt a fly! She is treat motivated and aims to please. She loves to play with toys and does not mind sharing. Medical: Luna only has about 20% function in her back legs. She gets around my scooting using her front legs or being assisted by her back leg sling. Despite this, she is quite active and loves to chase balls, do zoomies, and wrestle with her foster siblings! She will need medical assistance for the rest of her life so her family must be prepared with the care she will need. We are optimistic that with therapy, she may be able to gain back more function. Home recommendation: Luna would love a family who can shower her in love and attention, and also play with her! Her forever family must have the dedication and time to provide all her medical care and ensuring Luna is comfortable. Kids: 6+ Dogs: Luna is currently being fostered with another dog and they play all day long! She can be a bit selective with who becomes her best friend but she would not mind a laid-back sibling. Cats: Yes! She could care less about cats. Crate Trained: Luna does not mind being kept in a crate, but her current foster currently keeps her in a gated area. House Trained: Working on it! She needs a consistent schedule and frequent let outs. Leash Manners: Luna enjoys going on walks! She does great walking on the leash and enjoys being hoisted around in her sling. Why did he come to WISE?: Luna was found abandoned in a box on the side of the road in China as a puppy. Thanks to good samaritans, they saved her and raised her and contacted WISE for help. She then made her journey from China to NJ and has been adapting quickly to her new chapter!

Well hey there! My name is Leo and I'm a 5-month-old Golden Retriever/Terrier mix. I have a beautiful golden coat with the most beautiful eyes. I currently weigh about 36 pounds and will be a large dog when fully grown. I'm thrilled to introduce myself and share that I'm eagerly looking for my forever home. I've been described as a goofy and playful dog, and I definitely agree! I love playing with people or other dogs, and toys are really cool too, especially the squeaky ones. I don't mind being around cats either, they seem to do their own thing and they seem cool. You see, I've been told I am quite the catch. Wanna see for yourselves? Once I'm done with my zoomies, I enjoy getting pets and will even remind you that it's my designated pet time by giving you my paw. My foster mommy is teaching me the command for paw, and although I'm not entirely sure what she's saying, she tells me I'm a smart and food-motivated boy who's doing a great job learning. I love giving her kisses and snuggling with her. Cuddles are the best. I'm also getting the hang of walking on a leash and going potty outside, and I'm already crate trained. I can't wait to see what else I can learn! I've had a lot of fun at my foster home, but I'm really excited to find my forever home and see what kind of adventures we can have together. She is the perfect size for any family and cannot wait to find her very own.
