Story
Meet Wesley, who comes to us from the Cabarrus County Animal Shelter. Wesley is a 1-year-old, 55 lb., Great Dane mix. He is such a loving boy, good with other dogs, and is extremely affectionate with kids. Wesley is housebroken, crate trained, loves to play, is good on outdoor recall off leash, loves to snuggle, and is overall very well behaved. He shows no signs of aggression. Wesley is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and is thriving in his foster home. Because he is so good with other dogs, he would do best in a home with other fur siblings. If you would like to meet Wesley, please reach out to us for an application.

Story
Meet Athena, who comes to us from the community. She was listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace with her siblings and after they were unable to sell her, they reached out to us so she wouldn't end up in the shelter. Athena is a 5–6-year-old, 85.5 lb., Great Dane. Don't let her salt and peppered beauty fool you. Athena is so full of life and has so much love to give. She hasn't met a stranger. Athena is housetrained, crate trained, rides well in a car, and walks well on a leash. She loves other dogs and is kid and cat friendly. Athena is spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. This lovely lady boasts a gentle demeanor that will capture your heart. Her friendly, playful nature is matched only by her wonderful manners, making transitions from house to car to leash walking a delight. She loves to lay in your lap and be tucked into a blanket. Athena's recent vet visit confirmed that she’s in excellent health. Though she may be petite for a Great Dane, her current 85.5 pounds is a little underweight; therefore, she gets to enjoy a few extra groceries! And we would also like to report that she was so well-behaved at the vet's office and such a good girl during her nail trim. Athena would love to find a home of her own and be tucked in at night by her forever family. If you are interested in meeting her, please reach out to us for an application.

Story
Meet Brinkley! At just 5 months old, Brinkley is a beautiful Great Dane/Cane Corso mix weighing 42 pounds, with an estimated adult weight of 80–90 pounds. This sweet girl came to rescue at only 5 weeks old alongside her brother after being surrendered. While her brother has already found his forever home, Brinkley is patiently waiting for her special family. Brinkley is a gentle, chill puppy who absolutely lives for snuggles. If you’re looking for a big baby who loves to cuddle, she’s your girl! She also enjoys squeaky toys and chasing balls, but her favorite place is right next to (or leaning on!) her person. In the mornings, she loves to jump up for back snuggles and soak up all the affection she can get! Because she’s still gaining confidence, Brinkley can be shy and nervous with strangers and takes a little time to warm up. Once she trusts you, though, she bonds deeply and loves wholeheartedly. Patience and kindness will be key to helping her blossom into the confident companion she’s meant to be. Brinkley does wonderfully with other dogs but hasn’t been around cats yet. She has been around several adults and does great, though she may need slow introductions to new people. She has no aggression issues, she is mostly house trained, and she is fully crate trained. She will need more support at getting comfortable walking on a leash, so her future family should be prepared to continue positive, gentle leash training. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who will truly bond with you, and you’re ready to help a sweet, sensitive girl grow into her very best self, Brinkley is your girl!

Story
Thor is a one-year-old Great Dane and Lab mix weighing 71 pounds, and his story already reads like the opening scene of a movie. Found running loose through a Tennessee neighborhood, this big, beautiful boy was moments away from tragedy when fate—and a young dog lover—stepped in. Twice Thor ran in front of her car, and instead of driving on, she stopped, opened her door, and called to him. Without hesitation, Thor leapt into the back seat as if he knew his life was about to change. And it did.   With no collar and no microchip, Thor became part of Critter Cavalry Rescue and stayed with the very woman who saved him. From the moment he was safe, his true nature began to shine. Thor is strikingly handsome, with chiseled features and expressive ears that nearly stand straight up, giving him a regal, alert look—like a show dog who wandered off the Westminster runway and into a superhero origin story.   But don’t let the model looks fool you. Thor is pure joy wrapped in a giant puppy body. He tosses toys into the air, pounces on squeaky treasures, and delights in balls and stuffed animals with the enthusiasm of a dog who is still discovering how fun life can be. He doesn’t quite realize how big or strong he is yet, but his heart is gentle and his spirit is eager.   Thor is intelligent, focused, and deeply people-oriented. When you work with him, he locks onto you completely, especially if treats are involved, which makes training both effective and fun. He is wonderful with other dogs, showing no dominance or alpha behavior, just friendly curiosity and easygoing charm. Recently neutered, Thor is still growing and will likely fill out into a solid 90-pound adult over the next year.   He is housebroken and currently learning that being alone doesn’t mean being abandoned, as crates aren’t quite his favorite place. Thor simply loves people and wants to be near them, soaking in companionship and reassurance. His liver-and-black coat shifts with the sunlight, turning heads wherever he goes, and making him unforgettable long after he’s passed by.   Thor is the kind of dog who comes into your life once and leaves a permanent mark on your heart. He is waiting for someone to guide him, shape him, and grow with him into the extraordinary companion he is clearly meant to be.     If you are interested in making this big boy a big part of your life please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. Tell us where you live, city and state.   We adopt to Tennessee where our rescue is based and he is being fostered, but we also transport to the Northeast   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 24, 2026, 5:58 pm

Story
Meet Koa! This handsome 11-month-old Great Dane is all heart, all legs, and ALL teenage energy. Koa came to us when his college-student owner realized she didn’t have the time to give him the consistency he deserves. With lots of travel and bouncing between Rover stays, family, and friends, Koa hasn’t had much structure in his young life — but he’s soaking it up beautifully in his foster home. Like many adolescent Danes, Koa is in that “bratty teenager” phase. He’s sweet as can be, affectionate, and eager to please — he just needs guidance polishing those manners. The good news? He already knows sit and down, is crate trained, house trained, rides wonderfully in the car, and responds well to direction. He’s smart and ready to learn! Koa gets SUPER excited to see other dogs. He hasn’t had much experience, so his greeting style is best described as… enthusiastic He’s not aggressive in any way — just big, bouncy, and a little over-zealous. If another confident dog tells him “no thank you,” he’s very respectful. But if a dog runs? Well… he thinks it’s playtime! We’re actively working on his social skills and he’s making progress. He also LOVES toys and will happily entertain himself (or you!) with a good play session. After he burns off that puppy energy, he’s a total cuddle bug. &#226&#156&#168 Koa’s perfect home: Active family committed to continuing his training Giant breed experience required A securely fenced yard where he can safely zoom and stretch those long legs Koa is a wonderful young Dane who just needs structure, consistency, and a family ready to guide him into the amazing adult dog he’s going to be. If you’re ready to give this sweet, goofy boy the forever home he deserves, please email info@greatdanefriends.com . Let’s help Koa find his perfect match! *****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions. Story
Meet Juniper — Your Gentle, Curious Companion! Sweet, soulful Juniper is a beautiful mix of curiosity and heart. Rescued from a shelter in September, this lovely girl (estimated to be around 2–4 years old) has blossomed in her foster home and is ready to find her forever family. Juniper is still learning that the world is a safe place, so she’ll need a patient, loving owner who can help her continue to build her confidence. Once she warms up, she’s incredibly affectionate — a total snuggle bug who adores her humans. She’s happiest with another friendly dog by her side to show her the ropes and loves wrestling and cuddling with her foster siblings. Juniper has been great around kids of all ages, though she’d thrive best in a quieter home without lots of constant noise or activity. Her perfect match? An active family that’s home often or loves bringing their pup along for adventures. She’s learning that food and love are always there for her — and she’ll reward you with endless loyalty, warmth, and tail wags. Juniper is ready to meet the patient, kindhearted family who will help her bloom into the confident, joyful dog she’s meant to be. Could that be you? Juniper is being fostered in Chapel Hill NC.
