Story
Between July 8th and 31st, my adoption fee is sponsored! Thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters campaign, my new family can take me home for only $50! Please apply online to start the adoption process-- I can't wait to meet you! Meet Bunny! Bunny is a 6 year old, 12 pound Havanese. Bunny is a puppy mill rescue who has slowly begun to thrive and learn about the good life in foster care! Bunny is shy and nervous around most humans but is slowly coming around. She thrives in her own space surrounded by her plush toys, pillow, soothing music, and of course, with furry friends by her side! Bunny loves the companionship of other dogs and even does well with cats. In fact, a home with other animals is a requirement for Bunny! Her housetraining is coming along wonderfully, and she makes the best greeter after coming home from a long day! Though she doesn't always accept pets, once she trusts you, she loves to follow her human around. She also sleeps quietly through the night and overall doesn't make much noise. Bunny enjoys bath time, following her furry foster sisters around, plenty of snacks, chicken, and dental bones. Bunny enjoys lounging and observing the dynamics of the household. Bunny would thrive in a forever home filled with patience, love, and understanding. Bunny is currently enjoying her time with her foster family in Manhattan, NY. Her adoption fee is $500. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, fully up to date on vaccinations, including rabies (if age appropriate) and Bordetella, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event. Please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Puppy mills are the bane of our existence, and dogs like Harper are the reason why 😡 Just 3-4 years old, she is one of the lucky ones actually. She got out young and without any major health issues, but the psychological scars of living in a cage with no positive human interaction are lasting. Her only joy in life came from her doggie companions, and with other dogs she’s a happy normal playful pup and a lot of fun. But she doesn’t see humans as a source of joy or comfort at this point. She knows us as a source of food and something that opens doors and gates for her, and she looks happy to see us and will come to us for food or run out happily in the fenced yard with all the other dogs when let out. But she always tries to stay just out of reach and hasn’t learned to enjoy handling or petting just yet. Once you “catch” her she gives in and allows it, and starts to relax a bit more the longer you hold her. But she will likely always be skittish and not a lap dog, or may take years to really bond to someone. Harper’s paperwork labeled her as a schnauzer or schnoodle, but we don’t see it. She looks more like a Havanese or Lhasa-poo maybe? With a long body and short legs, about 15lbs full grown, spayed and updated on shots, and a non-shedding wavy coat, and soulful eyes, she’s a beautiful girl who lost her chance at being a carefree family pet thanks to human greed. Dogs like Harper are very special to us and require special homes. It’s not about molding them into what people want them to be, but rather meeting them on their terms and figuring out how to make them as happy as possible. She is happy living in a “pack” and definitely needs at least one other doggie friend in the household to learn from, play with, and follow. She’s a homebody who may never really enjoy walks and outings, and thrives on a consistent routine. She will be a major flight risk always if she ever gets loose especially in an unfamiliar place so extra care and paranoia is necessary to make sure that doesn’t happen, and she will go home with a secure martingale collar and air tag. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Harper in Northern NJ if you have some dogs who would like to take her under their wing and show her how to be happy. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Pepper (AL) is a male Lhasa Apso mix rescued in Alabama. Our veterinary partner estimates that Pepper is 3 years old at the time of intake in October 2023. Pepper is good with adults and other dogs. This little guy was brought into rescue in a neglected and abused condition. His fur was incredibly matted and soaked in urine. We don’t know how long Pepper suffered in that painful condition, but we’re only looking forward to Pepper’s happy future. Pepper has been shaved down and all of the mats removed. He is a sweet boy but understandably shaken and scared at what his life has been and unsure of what the future holds for him. He’s now pain free and on the path to recovery, but we recommend a quiet home without small children as Pepper needs some space that small children cannot give him. If you are the Salt to this Pepper, please apply online to adopt Pepper (AL) at www.rescuedogsrocknyc.org.  RDR's adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter/microchip at an RDR-approved facility, whether completed before adoption or if deferred because the pet is too young or has a medical issue.  All pets are also current on age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption. Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 4:47 pm
