Story
Hello, friends! My name is Yukon and I'm a 2 year old Husky who is waiting for my furever home. I’m happy, energetic and full of zest for life. I was rescued from a high-kill dog shelter in California where my life was at risk. They said I only had a few days left. I am so grateful to be out of there and I promise I will spend everyday of the rest of my life showing you just how love I have to give. I am eager to please! Please Read Full Bio Before Proceeding *[Please apply for him at https://www.animalcarezone.org/yukon]* Not to toot my own horn, but I get a lot of compliments. Who could possibly say no to my adorable face and striking eyes? If looks could kill, that would be my superpower. I guess I am just your typical husky, except wait... I'm not. The vet tech at the clinic I go to said 'I am the most cooperative husky she has never met' and when my trainer met me for the first time he described me as 'the calmest and most easy-going husky he has ever worked with.' Surprised? Don't be. Just trust me. I also don't have an exuberant amount of "husky energy" as they call it. I would say I am a medium-energy dog, and after a long nice walk or some play time, you will find me laying down and napping. I love playing with dog toys as well. I am not a very vocal dog, but rarely you may hear me singing the song of my people. My energy level, affinity to humans and overall disposition makes me a great family dog! Full disclaimer, one thing about me which is 'typical husky' is the escape artist in me! I must always be kept on the leash outside and when inside all outside doors must be closed. Before I arrived to my foster family, someone from my past had already taught me some basic commands. I know sit, stay, down and shake paw. I am treat motivated so if you have some delicious treats to give me, there is potential or me to learn even more! I am fully house trained (no accidents) and oh something else that you might like to hear is that I am fine with sleeping in as long as you like! #notamorningdog I am good with other medium/large dogs. While at my foster home, I go to dog day care a few times a week, where I meet many other dogs with different personalities. I am pretty social and do well on my report card from the day care. After a while, I will tire out from playing with dogs and will approach the human attendant for some love! I am very affectionate with people and love being in their presence. My foster parents are working on making me more independent. As of now, I don't do so well being left alone and I don't like the crate too much. Can you blame me? I hated my time at the dog pound. I just wanted to get out of that metal contraption [the kennel]. We have a trainer who is helping me adjust. However, I would prefer that there be someone in my new home who can mostly work from home. The goal is for me to be fully crate trained and able to stay alone for a few hours, but I would still prefer human company most of the time. My perfect home would be with a tall fully fenced backyard for me to run around in. However, I’m currently being fostered in an apartment and would do well if you are prepared and happy to take me on many walks and runs. Do I sound like your new best friend? If so, I can’t wait to meet you! *Side note from the founder of ACZ - We were pleasantly surprised to see what a good husky Yukon is. We do not understand how so many sweet temperament dogs like Yukon end up at the dog pound in the first place. There are so many well behaved dogs at the shelter who just want love and nothing more. Please adopt a shelter dog today and save their life [literally...]
