Story
Meet Poncho, a remarkable 3.5-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix who’s searching for his forever home. Rescued from a high-kill shelter after his previous owner had to move and couldn’t take him along, Poncho is a unique and lovable companion with a heart of gold. Poncho is a good-natured and sweet dog who does well with middle to large dogs and is incredibly intelligent. He prefers to spend most of his time outside and doesn’t seek out cuddles or furniture, but he shows his affection in his own special ways. His high energy levels and need for mental stimulation mean he thrives with proper exercise and engaging activities. Ideal for someone who works from home, Poncho doesn’t like to be alone and may struggle with separation, especially at first. He can be a bit vocal, giving you an earful as huskies are known to do, but his charming personality and loving nature make him an exceptional companion. Poncho is a special dog who will bring joy and loyalty to the right home. If you’re looking for a unique and devoted friend who’s ready to become a cherished part of your life, Poncho is the one for you.

Story
Hi, I’m Riley — and I’m… ready to be someone’s heart dog. I was surrendered to North Central Shelter with a dog everyone thinks might be my dad. The shelter was scary for me… too loud, too chaotic, too confusing. I shut down completely and couldn’t show anyone who I really was. Things got so bad I landed on the euthanasia list. But the second I walked out of those shelter doors with Akira Animal Rescue, everything changed. My whole personality lit up — like, instantly. I finally felt safe, and the real me came out: sweet, gentle, playful, loving… all the things I couldn’t show in the shelter. Here’s who I am now: ✨ I’m a big brother at heart. I love the other dogs in my foster home, especially the younger ones. I’m patient, kind, and love teaching them how to play. ✨ I’m cat-friendly! Yep. I think cats are pretty cool. I respect their space and don’t bother them. ✨ I bond deeply. Once I trust you, I really trust you. I follow you, check in with you, and just want to be close. ✨ I’m gentle and easy to have around. No chaos here — I’m a soft, loving boy who wants to fit in and make my humans happy. ✨ I’m ready for a stable, loving home. I’ve learned that once I feel safe, I can shine. I just need someone who’ll give me that chance. I’ve been through a lot, but I didn’t give up — I just needed someone to see me. If you’re looking for a loyal, sweet, grateful companion who will love you with his whole heart… I’m right here. 💛

Story
I'm a Husky! Yes I HOWL very very loudly because I'm a HUSKY! I need exercise exercise exercise! Yes I'm pretty but no couch potatoes please. My eyes are sensitive to the sun. My coat is made for cold weather so I don't like being out in the heat. I'm not a yard ornament so I don't like being left outdoors alone. I'm very social and like being around more members of my species. I'm extremely intelligent and need stimulation. I like a daily routine. I have a natural prey drive. No small pets I like my food bowl and will allow you to have it only if you are filling it with food. I steal the food bowls of the other dogs here at the rescue and hoard them. Story
Meet Sadie! A loyal and playful almost three-year-old Siberian Husky/German Shepherd mix currently in Burbank, CA, whose expressive eyes and joyful zoomies are just the beginning of her charm. Wrapped in a gorgeous gray and tan coat, Sadie is a spirited adventurer at heart! An ideal sidekick for anyone who loves walks, hikes, and of course, fetch (her all-time favorite game!). This athletic girl is not just all energy and fun, she’s also a gentle soul who forms deep bonds with her humans once she’s had a proper introduction. Sadie takes stranger introductions seriously, but once you're in her circle, get ready for a loyal companion who greets you with a wagging tail and her signature grin! Crate trained, house-trained, and incredibly food motivated, Sadie thrives on a structured routine. She eats twice a day, enjoys lounging on the couch or in her crate, and looks forward to her daily walk, as long as it’s paired with a few solid rounds of fetch. Rainy days might cause a slip in her potty routine, but overall, she does beautifully with consistency and care. Though she’s lived with other dogs, Sadie is selective and needs to be the only pet in her next home. She has been involved in altercations with other dogs when introductions were rushed or not managed carefully. She can be unsure around highly playful or reactive dogs, and she’s still learning the art of dog play. While she’s not reactive on leash or through fences, her new pet parent will need to continue supporting her social development with patience and positive reinforcement. Her heart, however, is wide open to her people (especially women) and she’s done wonderfully around children ages 3 to 9 in a former foster setting! Smart, responsive, and eager to please, Sadie knows basic commands like “sit,” walks like a pro on leash, and is always up for new adventures with her trusted humans. While she may need a little patience when meeting new people, tossing her a toy or offering a treat is the perfect way to win her over! Could you be the steady, loving companion Sadie needs to keep her world full of fetch games, soft beds, and new adventures? If you’re interested in providing Sadie with a loving home, please email meetme@joyfulpets.com for more information about adopting her! Please note that Sadie is currently in foster care through one of our trusted rescue partners and will remain with her foster family until the right match is found. Because rescue-partner pets are managed directly by their respective organizations, their adoption process, requirements, and fees may differ from Joyful Pets’ direct rehoming program. Our team will be happy to connect you with the rescue and help guide you through their process to ensure everything goes smoothly.
