Story
FOXY is a 3 year old female husky mix that weighs 36 lbs. She came to us late summer with a litter of pups, rescued at the last minute from high kill shelter in Eastern KY. Often times, patience is needed with these mother dogs back up to weight and finally she's now looking great, sporting a proper thick husky coat. The best news for Foxy is she's currently in our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program. She has always been great around people but early indications were she came with little in the way of manners and obedience. So we're working on that now. If she was someone's backyard dog roaming free all day, life with her inmate is quite a change. But she's doing well. She is certainly smart enough. She will more than likely need a home without cats or larger, dominant dogs. Her best friend so far is a 6 month old puppy. But again, it takes time and patience. We have no doubt she'll make a wonderful family companion for an active family, savvy to husky behaviors. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our online application which can be found at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com. Additional adoption FAQ's can be found there also. Meets will be set with approved applicants. Thank you for your interest!

Story
Meet Noelle.  She is a 3 year old husky/pitbull mix. She is a medium/large dog and will need a privacy fenced yard. Noelle is very independent and smart, so she needs someone familiar with those personality traits and willing to train her and give her a job as she aims to please!  If you would like to make Noelle a part of your family, fill out an application at  www.barktownrescue.org.  Adoption Fee for Noelle: $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    November 29, 2023, 7:02 pm

Story
Sadie is sweet, smart, and a bundle of fun! This 8 month old Cattle Dog/Husky mix came to the Kentucky Humane Society when her owner could no longer care for her. Sadie is your typical cattle dog that likes to herd things to their proper place, children included! She would do great with a home that has experience with herding breeds. Sadie is approved to go home with children 8 and above. She enjoys playing with other dogs and would love a dog sibling. She weighs right about 40 pounds making her a great medium sized dog. Sadie is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. I came to the Kentucky Humane Society because my owner could no longer care for me. I miss being in a home and have a lot of love to give.
