Story
Cookie would love to find a forever home. Shes as sweet as she can be and just wants to be part of a family. Here is some info about her. -female -2 years old -spayed -dog friendly with a slow introduction. -people friendly - good at walking with a leash _gentle -chill -quiet She had a family once, but they moved away and left her to fend for herself on the streets of Texas. A local stray feeder had been taking care of Cookie until she could find rescue. She is now in VA and having a blast in her foster home. She loves the cool weather and going on walks! She loves people and does this funny thing where she likes to rub against you like a cat. She is gentle and loving. If you are interested in adopting there is an application below! This is the first step. We do not schedule meet and greets without an approved application. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PDAR/Dog Medical note: She had a heartworm positive diagnosis and is currently being treated with the slow kill method. 98% of our adoptables come from out of state. There are higher fees associated as we have to pay to have the animals transported. We are a non-profit rescue. Any access revenue made is used to care for animals with additional medical expenditures that would otherwise result in adoptable dogs having to be left behind and euthanized.

Story
https://foha.org/pet/jakob2025/ Meet Jakob Jakob is a sweet, energetic boy with a huge heart and an even bigger love for people. His favorite hobbies include giving hugs, handing out kisses, and playing an enthusiastic game of fetch. He’s a smart, curious dog who loves exploring the world one sniff at a time. Walks are an adventure because Jakob likes to investigate every light post and check out the neighborhood. At home he enjoys keeping watch over the yard like a very dedicated security guard with ears that seem to swivel in every direction. Jakob is also a proud collector of “treasures.” Socks, cardboard tubes, and other mysterious household finds sometimes make their way into his collection. He is already learning what belongs to him and loves trading for proper dog toys, which shows how eager he is to learn. With his affectionate personality, playful spirit, and curious mind, Jakob is the kind of dog who will keep you smiling and make every day a little more fun. How Am I With Other Dogs? I LOVE other dogs! I’m a playgroup regular and you can often find me rolling around with my friends! How Am I With Cats? No cats for me, please. How Am I With Kids? Unknown right now. Would do better in a home without small children (13+). Slow, thoughtful introductions will help us see if we’re a good match. Training & Skills I know: sit, down, easy, stay and is learning roll-over, leave it & drop it! Housebreaking & Crating I am crate-trained and house-trained. Things I Like He loves all sorts of toys. Especially balls he can play fetch with. Rubber toys that squeak. And tough chewing toys. He also loves soft stuffed animals which he is very gentle with. He mostly likes games that involve a person; loves fetch! Things I Dislike Getting into cars make me a little nervous right now, but my wonderful foster is helping me build confidence. 📋 FOHA Adoption Policies and Process: https://foha.org/pet-adoption/adoption-policies/ 💰 Adoption Fee Includes: Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, starter bag of food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and any additional medical care recommended by our veterinarian.

Story
https://foha.org/pet/jaydawayda2026/ 🌟 Meet Jayda Wayda! 🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Jayda Wayda is a cool, confident girl who knows how to enjoy her independence while still making plenty of time for her favorite people. She may initially come across as a little aloof, but spend some time with her and you'll quickly realize that's just Jayda doing things her way. She likes to explore, investigate her surroundings, and then circle back to check in and hang out by your side. When Jayda is in the mood for affection, she has an especially adorable way of showing it—she'll rub against you like a cat! Neck scratches seem to be a particular favorite, and she enjoys spending time close to people she trusts. She's also comfortable communicating when she'd rather take her treat or chew to another spot and enjoy it independently, so a family who appreciates a dog with a little personal agency will understand her perfectly. Jayda is a confident explorer who has done well checking out the adoption office, yard, and trails. She's curious about unusual sights and sounds without being easily rattled—even unexpected noises earn more investigation than concern. She walks with some steady pressure on leash, particularly when she spots an interesting person or dog, but she's manageable and not trying to turn every walk into a husky-powered sledding expedition. Training Jayda may require finding the right currency because this girl has standards. Most treats? Absolutely beneath her. Chicken? Apparently unimpressive. Jerky? Now we're talking! Fortunately, Jayda already knows sit and paw, so once you've identified a reward worthy of her attention, she's happy to show off what she knows. Jayda Wayda would be a wonderful match for someone who appreciates an independent, intelligent companion who doesn't need to be attached to your hip every second—but still genuinely enjoys being near you. Give her space to be herself, some quality neck scratches, and a supply of appropriately fancy jerky, and you'll have one very happy girl. 🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS: I'm interested in other dogs and may pull toward them when I see them. My friends at FOHA can schedule a dog introduction if you have another dog at home. I have shown some concern when another dog approached food I had spilled, so meals and other high-value resources should be managed separately while everyone gets to know each other. 🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS: Unknown — just ask my friends at FOHA to conduct a cat test. 👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS: Unknown — we recommend slow introductions to help everyone feel comfortable. I appreciate interactions where my body language is respected and I'm given the choice to engage. 🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: I know sit and paw! I'm very selective about my rewards, though, so bring the good stuff—jerky currently has my stamp of approval. 🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Unsure at this time. I spent time exploring the adoption office without any observed accidents or marking. 💖 THINGS I LIKE: Neck scratches, rubbing against my favorite people, jerky treats, exploring, checking in with my humans, hanging out nearby, and having the freedom to do my own thing. ⚠️ THINGS I DISLIKE: Low-quality snacks, apparently! I'm very picky about treats and may prefer to enjoy food or special chews in my own space. I'm also still working on my leash skills and can pull when something interesting catches my attention. Story
https://foha.org/pet/ohana2023/ Hello there, My name is Ohana, and I'm a timid but loving soul searching for my forever home. Just like Nanni, I can be a little shy when it comes to meeting new people, but I've discovered something truly magical-I come alive when I'm surrounded by other dogs. You see, I've been attending dog play groups, and those furry get-togethers have been a game-changer for me. When I'm in the company of my canine companions, my confidence soars, and my true personality shines through. It's incredible how the presence of other dogs can help me open up and experience the joy of connection. I'm proud to say that I'm the proud father of two precious puppies, Janis and Jerry, who are also seeking their own loving homes. Our journey together has been a rollercoaster, and finding a family that can provide us all with the love and care we deserve would mean the world to me. In order to continue growing and thriving, I believe it would be incredibly beneficial for me to be part of a family that already has a dog. Having a furry sibling would provide me with the support and companionship I need to feel safe and secure. Together, we can navigate the world with wagging tails and an unbreakable bond. While I may start off a bit reserved, with time and patience, I promise to shower my new family with affection, loyalty, and love. I have so much potential just waiting to be discovered, and all I need is a chance to show you the incredible dog I can become. So, if you're looking for a gentle and caring companion who flourishes in the presence of other dogs, I'm your guy. Let's embark on an incredible journey together, filled with moments of growth, love, and endless wagging tails. Together, we can create a harmonious and joyful home that will make every day feel like a walk in the park. Choose me, Ohana, and let's build a bond that will last a lifetime.
