Meet Charlotte   • Name: Charlotte • Age: 7–8 years • Sex: Spayed Female • Breed: Terrier Mix • Color: Brown • Weight: 9.5 kg • Height (shoulder): 37 cm   Rescue Story Charlotte was rescued from a municipal shelter in January 2021. After her rescue, she spent about four years in a private shelter. During her time at the shelter, Charlotte was bitten by another dog. Following that experience, she became very sensitive to handling and touch, which made finding an adoptive home more challenging.   In November, Charlotte joined the AKR center, where she began desensitization and touch training. At first, even putting on a collar or harness caused her to scream, but with consistent training and patience, she has made meaningful progress. Now, she may occasionally whine slightly, but her reaction has improved significantly.   She is sensitive to her fur being pulled, so she is currently kept with a short coat for her comfort.   ‍‍‍ Socialization with People Charlotte can be a little shy at first, but she is very food-motivated. With treats and gentle, positive reinforcement, she warms up quickly and becomes comfortable with touch.   She has not been tested with children under 13. While she can be picked up once she trusts you, this may be difficult for strangers at first. As she bonds, she becomes affectionate—even offering her belly for rubs.   Socialization with Dogs Charlotte is friendly and social with other dogs. She approaches both familiar and unfamiliar dogs to greet and invite play.   She can be a bit vocal when playing, which may overwhelm more timid dogs. However, she does very well with dogs that match her energy level, regardless of size.   She would thrive either with a compatible canine companion or as the only dog in the home.   Cats Not yet tested, but can be assessed upon request.   Energy Level Moderate energy. Now safe, this sweet little gentleman is ready to find a loving forever home where he can enjoy his golden years surrounded by his family.   Social with People   Yuki is an incredibly friendly and affectionate boy who loves people. He happily approaches both familiar people and complete strangers, leaning in for pets and affection.   He is comfortable with both men and women and can easily be picked up by placing an arm under his belly. He is so trusting that he may even show his belly to someone he has just met!   Social with Dogs   Yuki will approach unfamiliar dogs to say hello, but he isn’t particularly interested in playing or interacting beyond that. He generally does well with dogs around his size or smaller.   High-energy dogs can be a little overwhelming for him, so he prefers calm canine company. Even when another dog tries to provoke him, Yuki would rather walk away than engage. Overall, he simply isn’t very interested in other dogs and is perfectly content doing his own thing.   Cats   When Yuki sees cats during walks, he shows very little interest and remains focused on his person instead. My name is Lucas, and I’m a 4-year-old male Jack Russell Terrier × Welsh mix weighing around 10kg. I have a compact, sturdy body — but my short little legs are what everyone notices first. People often say I look extra adorable when I walk, and I think it’s because every step I take naturally makes people smile. 😊 For a long time, I lived in a shelter. I was rescued just before euthanasia, and since then I’ve been given a second chance at life. Now I’m staying in a training facility where I’m slowly learning what the world is like outside the shelter. Everything still feels new to me — other dogs playing freely, interesting smells on walks, toys, and especially kind human attention. It’s almost like I’m finally experiencing what it means to just be a dog. Because I’m discovering so much for the first time, I get very curious about everything around me. But there are also things I still need help understanding. Sometimes, if a hand suddenly reaches over my head or someone touches me unexpectedly, I can get scared and react defensively. In those moments, it may look like I’m trying to bite, but it’s really just fear — a way for me to protect myself when I feel unsure. When people take time to approach me gently, that behavior becomes much less, and my true personality starts to show. Because deep down… I’m actually a very sweet and affectionate boy. 💛 I just need time. What I need most is not quick bonding, but patience and understanding. If you let me come to you at my own pace instead of forcing touch or rushing interactions, I will slowly begin to trust you. It helps a lot when people approach me from the side or below rather than reaching over my head, and when they use calm voices and positive experiences to help me feel safe. Once I trust someone, I become a completely different dog — I love attention, I follow my person around, and I show a very affectionate and playful side. With a stable routine, regular walks, and positive reinforcement, I can gradually build confidence and feel more secure. I’m smart and curious, and with the right support, I learn step by step at my own pace. Meet Rags – small in size, but big in personality! This spirited little guy was rescued from a high-kill shelter and is now on the lookout for an active family that can keep up with his energy and give him plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Rags is a loving and playful companion with his favorite people, and he absolutely thrives on affection and attention – he’ll even jump up for some extra love! Rags is an incredibly smart and eager learner, but he does require an experienced owner who can continue his training and help manage his resource guarding tendencies. Due to this, Rags would do best in an adult-only home where his family can work closely with our trainers to ensure a smooth transition into his forever home. While Rags generally gets along with dogs, his guarding behavior can make him unpredictable around other animals, so he would be happiest as the only pet in the household. This little guy is a big fan of long walks on sunny days and running around in the yard. He’s treat-motivated and loves learning new tricks with a clicker. If you’re an experienced dog owner who can offer Rags the structure and care he needs, you’ll be rewarded with an incredibly loyal and loving companion!
