If there are multiple dogs that you are interested in, please fill out an application for each dog. This does not include bonded pairs — for them, one application will be fine. Because we have different adoption coordinators working with different dogs, your application may be missed if you only apply once. Find more adoptable pets, news, and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws. We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions finding our fur babies the most loving homes. Please do not apply if you are not serious about adopting. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and Buddy the perfect forever home, and appreciate you working with us. Our adoption fee is $525. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age-appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention, and travel expenses. All our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for their transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed.

Story
Pumpkin, named so by the kids in his neighborhood because of his perfect warm orange coloring, almost looks like cartoon dog. His size, his ears, the smile…he is cartoonishly cute because it almost feels impossible that something could naturally be so angelic and sweet. Pumpkin is a 1-year-old, 26-pound mystery mix—maybe a little Jack Russell, maybe a dash of Shiba Inu, truly an absolute dream combo even if we can’t identify it. Now despite his absolute star level good looks, he doesn’t love the spotlight… unless another dog is standing there with him. He is a sweet pup on his own but give him a calm, confident pup-pal, and Pumpkin comes alive. Right now, Pumpkin is still learning how to be brave around people, he isn’t scared, he just isn’t the type to make the first move with new people. He is dog-friendly to the core and instantly more relaxed, curious, and affectionate when dogs are around. In fact, when meeting new people, his approach changes if he’s surrounded by dog energy—a dog by his side gives him a sense of security and I can’t blame him- I feel the same way. A medium-energy, playful, dog-friendly companion will make all the difference for Pumpkin. A home with a yard where he can explore and play chase with his doggy friend would be the best fit. Ideally in a quiet suburb or even a rural area- he isn’t much of the big city type. He is even open to a dog-savvy, calm cat companion! When he met out house cat he was cautious and perfectly polite. Pumpkin is fostered in a loving home with seven small dogs, and he fits in beautifully. He is calm, respectful, and gets along with everyone—no drama, no tension. His foster foster describes him as excited and welcoming, with a calm presence that brings peace to the home. He also has shared that Pumpkin doesn’t need constant attention but enjoys checking in for affection, belly rubs, and gentle praise. He is house and crate-trained, rides well in the car, and is used to a predictable routine. Pumpkin doesn’t live in a home with kids but is really popular with the kids in the neighborhood, they named him after all. He is great with kids and has always been gentle, respectful, and calm. He loves playing with a ball and has a gentle mouth sharing toys and receiving treats. Pumpkin enjoys regular walks and is great in the car. Leash-wise, Pumpkin is still mastering his leash skills when he is alone but with a harness on and a friend by his side, he is great. He’s been walked on a harness with his foster and does well but is not as confident with traditional leash pressure. He will get there, he may need gentle confidence-building walks and a light-hearted family who doesn’t mind seeing him through while he settles in. He will thrive in a low-pressure, canine-loving environment. Pumpkin stole all of our hearts when we met him and we have no doubt, he is going to be the kind of dog that arrives and immediately feels like he is right where he is meant to be. Make the first move to welcome this gentleman home, apply today to make sure he doesn’t get away. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Story
What has the cutest airplane ears and freckles all over? Loretta of course! Loretta is a small to medium little girl weighing in a just 35 pounds! She’s giving us all of the Jack Russel terrier and Labrador retriever vibes. Loretta is just 3 years old, and she’s outgrown her puppy years— so she is a very calm well mannered girl. We can’t help but melt at the sight of this gentle girl having so much fun and showing us her true self— just a girl who wants to love you, and wants love back. This sweet girl can come off as a little shy at first… but once you get her to open up you see her true fun side. Are you looking for a loyal companion who will instantly make your day better when you come home? Well Loretta is waiting to great you at the door with a big smile and lots of kisses and hugs! Who wouldn’t want that? Ready to meet her yet? Well come on!🩷 Watch Loretta here: https://youtu.be/wFtgimakyg0?si=IynuL39AN7OgxpIZ Her foster mom says her favorite thing about Loretta is how excited she gets to see her... Since she is such a sweet and shy girl, it makes her person (could be you) feel sooooo special. She currently is fostered with 6, yes 6, other doggy friends! She doesnt mind hanging with her friends and enjoys a play date every now and then, but if she had it her way, a low key daily life would be her preference. She likes her space and we cant blame her, dont we all? If she had it her way, her perfect match would be a low energy male who is not pushy or in her face. She wouldn’t mind being your perfect one and only shining star either! She is great with kids but would fit best in a home with older kids who understand that need for space that Loretta seeks sometimes. Loretta currently lives with three boys ages 4, 9, and 12. This girl would probably be best in a home with a yard with room to explore, but she could possibly live in an apartment with the right family. We believe this because of how quiet she is! Her low energy would make her a candidate for apartment living as well. She has been working on her loose leash walking and she is rocking it! We see many a neighborhood walk in her future! She sleeps in her crate at night, and does well if she needs to be in the crate a few times throughout the day. She enjoys lounging in her doggy bed or on the couch if you will let her! We found her jumping up for snuggles when she came to hang out with us one day. She will snuggle all day if you let her! Her favorite toy is a deer antler to chew on! This is hilarious because she actually reminds us of a little deer, with her spots and her prancing! She really does jump through the grass and flowers like a baby fawn would. Another plus about this sweet girl is how she will let us handle her. She lets her handler take toys and food from her, clip her nails, brush her, and bathe her. She lets you get things done!
