Story
Meet Mong-sil! She is the sweetest most adorable girll! She is a 6 month old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Mong-sil and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app January 21, 2026, 5:38 pm

Story
Meet Junol! He is such a sweet gentle boyl! He is a 9 month old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea. He is playful and curious, loves the company of other dogs and enjoys playing with all kinds of dog toys, often carrying them around the house. He loves following his favorite human around the house. He likes gentle belly rubs and all kinds of treats.  He connects best with females- can be shy with men that are tall or deep voice, and enjoys calm and quiet environments, with lots of toys to play with and treats to enjoy.  He is a very gentle kind soul. . These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app January 8, 2026, 4:42 pm

Available to foster or adopt!Breed: Chow X DOB: 4/2023 Gender: male Altered: yes Coat: long Size: medium Color(s): red Description:***Needs a Foster Home***This dog is in need of a foster home as well as a permanent home. If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online foster application.Hi, I'm Dale, a handsome Chow X who was rescued from a shelter where I was found as a stray. I'm grateful to be given a chance to find my forever home. Although my shelter stay wasn't the best experience, I've been doing great at CARL's kennel facility.I'm good with other dogs and enjoy playgroup time at the kennel, but for unknown reasons there have been a some dogs I didn't care for, maybe they were just sending me the wrong vibes. If you have a fur baby in the home already, please bring him/her along so we can do a meet and greet. It's unknown at this time if I get along with other cats. I would probably not do well in a home with young children due to their unpredictability. Older children who know how to behave around a dog and are more predictable would probably be fine. A CARL volunteer said I needed a little time to warm up to new people when I first came to CARL, but now I'm more social. I'm sure it had to do with having been picked up as a stray and then being taken to a shelter where I didn't know what fate awaited me. The volunteer said I'm leash trained and nice looking too.I can't wait to find my forever home and be someone's loyal companion. Could that someone be you? Please fill out an online application to meet me.*Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving him the chance for a better life.August 8, 2025, 12:03 am

Story
Breed: Chow DOB: 7/9/2022 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: long Size: medium Color(s): black Description:Hi, I'm Nellie!I'm an affectionate and loyal Chow looking for my forever home where I can truly thrive. I've come a long way—from being a fearful, under-socialized puppy to becoming a loving, curious girl who's eager to learn and please. Thanks to the patience and guidance of my foster mom, I've gained confidence and started to come out of my shell. While I'm still a little reserved around new people, I warm up with time and consistency—and once I do, I'll be your playful shadow, chasing lizards, tossing toys, and cuddling right by your side.I would do best in a home as the only dog. I don't do well with females, and I'm selective with males—I tend to get along best with calm, confident (alpha) males, and even then, I'd need a proper meet and greet to make sure we're a good fit. I've worked hard to find my balance, and I'd love a home where I can continue to grow with a strong, steady human who can provide structure, guidance, and lots of love.I'm crate-trained, potty-trained, and making great progress on leash walks with a gentle leader. I just need someone who's willing to continue working with me and help me keep building on the great progress I've made.If you're looking for a sweet, smart companion who's ready to bond deeply and be your loyal best friend, I just might be your girl. Please fill out an application as I can't wait to meet you!August 4, 2025, 2:10 pm
