Story
Meet Namu!  He is a 1 year old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horrific puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Many restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Namu and some of his friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app March 22, 2025, 9:11 pm

Story
[Ready for flight to LA upon adoption] Background: Sirius was rescued from a city pound in Ansung last November—just days before his scheduled euthanasia. Since then, he’s been living safely at our boarding facility with other rescue dogs, waiting for his second chance at a happy life. Personality and Socialization: Sirius is a bright, affectionate boy with a medium energy. He bonds quickly with people and doesn’t take long to warm up to new faces. Friendly and social, he genuinely enjoys human company and loves being part of everyday life—especially when it includes a good walk or outdoor time. He's intelligent, eager to please, and responds well to gentle training. Sirius gets along well with most other dogs, particularly those who are gentle and enjoy playtime. He can be a bit avoidant with dogs who are too dominant or overly energetic. He hasn’t been tested with cats or young children. Behaviours: Sirius loves cuddles and spending time close to his people, but he’s also happy to quietly entertain himself with toys or relax nearby. He’s independent enough to stay calm when left alone for a while, making him an easy dog to care for. He prefers outdoor potty breaks but is also comfortable using pee pads indoors when needed. He travels well in the car, behaves nicely during vet visits, and is patient during bath time. Health and Diet: Sirius is in great health. He’s neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and receives monthly parasite prevention. He eats dry kibble twice daily and has had no issues with allergies or sensitivities. Ideal Home: Sirius would do best with someone who’s home most of the time—perhaps a retiree, remote worker, or anyone who enjoys having a dog as a constant companion. He would love a family who enjoys walks, nature, or even just lounging around together. A home with another friendly, well-mannered dog would be a great match, though Sirius would also be happy as a solo dog receiving lots of love and attention. If you’re looking for a sweet, clever, and loyal friend who’ll stay by your side through it all, Sirius could be your perfect match. Story
**Note: Ready to board her flight to LA upon Adoption—currently in Korea. Background: Chowol was rescued from a city pound in Gwangju last October, just in time before he was scheduled to be euthanized. Since then, he’s been living safely at our boarding house with other dogs, waiting patiently for his forever family to find him. Personality and Socialization: Chowol is a smart and affectionate boy with a cheerful and loving personality. He’s friendly with strangers and warms up to new people very quickly. Chowol is quite social and enjoys being around people—he thrives on human companionship and loves going for walks together. He’s also a quick learner and responds well to guidance. When it comes to other dogs, he gets along well with most—especially those who are friendly and playful like him. However, he tends to avoid dogs who are overly hyper or dominant. Chowol hasn’t been tested with cats or young children. Behaviours: Chowol loves snuggling and being close to his people. He’s also happy entertaining himself with toys or relaxing quietly nearby. He prefers to do his business outside but will use pee pads indoors if needed. He’s well-mannered during car rides, bath time, and vet visits. Health and Diet: When Chowol was first rescued, he tested positive for heartworms. He has since completed his treatment and is now healthy and heartworm-free. He’s neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and receives monthly parasite preventatives. Chowol eats dry kibble twice a day and has no known allergies. Ideal Home: Chowol would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time—perhaps someone who works from home, is retired, or simply enjoys spending quality time with their dog. He would love to be part of a family that enjoys outdoor activities like walks or hikes. Another friendly and playful dog in the home would be a bonus, but not a must. If you’re looking for a sweet, smart, playful and affectionate companion who will always be by your side, Chowol might be the one you’ve been waiting for. Story
WEACT received a tip in March of 2021 that there were dogs dying at #HwaseongPaltanDogFarm. Upon seeing the stiff bodies of the dogs in the photos, we immediately headed to Hwaseong. The site was even more terrifying in person. There were 12 neglected dogs either trapped in small cages or tied up on short leashes with only food waste in a bowl. Without proper shelter, they had to endure extreme weather conditions and fear for their lives. Thanks to the help from our volunteers and RE:BIRTH, we were able to rescue all 12 dogs as well as three stray dogs nearby. #weact_rinda was finally able to escape from the cold, dark place and finally get to know the beautiful world waiting for her.

Story
In December 2019, the heartbreaking story of Yumi, whose entire body had been burned due to horrific abuse, came to light. The place where Yumi was believed to have escaped from was the #SiheungDogFarm. While other animal organizations immediately began rescue efforts, the farm owner secretly relocated all the dogs to another farm in the countryside on Christmas Day—a day that should have been peaceful. WeACT managed to track the dogs down and, after persuading the owner, succeeded in bringing them back. Ultimately, around 60 dogs were saved. Most of the rescued dogs were severely traumatized and deeply scarred by human cruelty, requiring great patience and courage to heal. Now, about four years later, WeACT and the dogs continue to work tirelessly to find loving families. #WeACTWillis is one of the dogs rescued from this place.

Story
n December 2019, the #SiheungDogFarm entered the spotlight as the story of Yumi emerged—a dog that miraculously escaped with extensive burns covering its entire body. Another animal welfare organization initially launched a rescue operation, but on Christmas Day, the owner transferred all the animals to a different dog farm. Although their whereabouts remained elusive, persistent efforts eventually convinced the farm owner to surrender them. However, the time spent in slaughterhouses had inflicted profound trauma on these dogs. Taking charge of the situation, WEACT and volunteers provided ceaseless day and night care, leading to the successful rescue of 65 animals from the #SiheungDogFarm. Due to their profound trauma and injuries inflicted by humans, it necessitated an extended period of time and heightened effort to rehabilitate them. Even four years down the line, WEACT remains steadfast in its mission to facilitate the adoption of dogs from #SiheungDogFarm. #weact_scott was one of the rescues from this very location.
