What we know: Transferred from Animal Rescue Friends of Floydada in Clifton, TX, pregnant adult dog, reportedly 2-3 weeks out from delivering puppies (as of Dec 10th). Updated May 22, 2026 - Mama delivered eight healthy puppies on January 10th, 2026. They all came out brindle, and their puppy numbers are 906A - 906H. All eight puppies have been adopted.
**Mama Sugar has been adopted and returned twice; the first instance was when we learned she shouldn't go to a home with cats, and the second time was a family who thinks their apartment was a little too small for their existing dog to welcome another. They did great together for the first day but the resident dog became intolerant after that, so Mama came back.**
From the foster: *Updated 5/22* Sugar is a sweet, snuggly girl who loves being close to her people and is great with kids. She has adorable bursts of puppy energy and loves to play with toys, but she also knows how to settle down and enjoy some quiet time while you work or relax.
She is potty trained and she sits by the door when she needs to go out. Sugar also rides well in the car, usually content to watch the world go by out the window. She’s quiet throughout the day and has only given a bark when she noticed a neighbor walking past.
Sugar is still working on her leash skills, but she is definitely an outdoor enthusiast. She’s already shown that she’s a loving, calm companion with just the right mix of playful puppy fun and cozy cuddle time. She would be a wonderful match for someone looking for a loyal dog who can join in the fun and then happily relax by your side.
Previous foster bio: Some dogs are easy. Some dogs are extraordinary for the right person. Mama Sugar is the latter.
After spending the past few months lovingly raising her puppies in foster care, Sugar is finally ready for a family of her own.
Sugar is incredibly affectionate and deeply loyal. She forms strong bonds with the people she trusts and loves being close to her humans. She has a gentle, sensitive soul and thrives in a calm, patient environment where she feels safe.
She is also very athletic with endless energy and absolutely loves long walks, runs, and outdoor adventures. Sugar will do best with an active family who enjoys being outside and can give her the exercise she needs to truly thrive.
Sugar is fully potty trained, respectful inside the home, and does not require a crate. She enjoys having her own chew toys and settles nicely when her exercise needs are met. She is still working on leash manners and is very strong, so she currently walks best using a harness.
Sugar absolutely loves people, including children, but she is still learning about personal space and can get very excited when greeting or playing. Because she is strong and enthusiastic, she may accidentally knock over smaller children, so she would do best with older or sturdy kids or adults who can help continue teaching calm greetings.
Sugar also has a natural instinct to chase moving animals, so she will need a home without cats or other small animals.
Her ideal home would include:
• An active household
• A secure fenced yard
• No cats, she will chase small animals like rabbits and squirrels
This special girl has clearly been through a lot in her life, but her heart is full of love and she continues to blossom more every day in foster care.
With the right family, Sugar will be an incredibly devoted companion and loyal best friend.
