Meet Mandy. She came to us as a local surrender. Mandy was used to living outside on a farm. She was born in the spring of 2000 so she is about 4 years old. Mandy is a mini Labradoodle and she weighs about 51 lbs. Mandy is working on housebreaking and will hold it in a crate. She does need to go outside on a leash even in a fenced in yard as she has been an escape artist in fences. Mandy is a super smart girl that loves adventure and also to cuddle. She gets along well with other dogs and seems to do well around cats too. Mandy is now spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped and tested negative for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $350.00. Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about within an hour of Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Flora! Flora is a 6-year-old, 18 lb. Poodle mix who was rescued and brought to a shelter as part of a cruelty investigation. Partially paralyzed and suffering from chronic infections, this sweet girl needed a second chance. Flora was treated for her skin infections and a UTI. She had an extensive orthopedic workup, and it was determined that she will most likely not regain the use of her back legs. That being said good luck keeping up with this pup! Flora loves her wheelchair and zooms around in it every chance she gets. She can also scoot herself around the house with no problems. Flora is able to go to the bathroom without assistance but does wear a diaper. It will need to be changed several times a day. Paralyzed pups can be more prone to UTIs, so good hygiene is important and there may be some extra trips to the vet. (She does great at the vet) To help prevent urinary infections, Flora takes supplements and probiotics that cost $45 a month. Due to her sad start in life, Flora tends to be wary of new people and experiences. She will give a bark and try to leave the room. If her family goes slow with her, and lets her take her time, Flora will thrive. She is good with other dogs and would do best in a quieter home with no small children. Flora loves to be cuddled, picked up, and play with toys. She is happy sleeping in a dog bed and can play independently as well. One look in those big, brown eyes and your heart will melt. All Flora needs is a family that sees how special she is, and that a little extra work is nothing compared to the love she will give you in return. Please apply today!

Harper was rescued as a puppy who came up to Delaware from Alabama in October of 2022. I have been caring for him since that time. He is a sweet, lovable, and affectionate dog who loves to go for walks, visit the dog park, play fetch and "catch me if you can" with balls. He settles down well after exercise and loves to cuddle on the couch. He likes his crate, and freely goes into it when he wants quiet time. He has been kid tested only with my 4 year old granddaughter. He was extremely interested in her. Her quick movements sometimes scared him, but he showed no aggression. I think he would do fine with children once he became used to them. Harper responds well to treat training.
